Malta Dynamics HLL3001 Frequently Asked Questions
1. How many workers can the HLL3001 support at once?
The HLL3001 is rated for up to four (4) workers simultaneously. Each worker must be equipped with their own personal fall-arrest system and must not exceed 310 lbs. Note: When used as part of our SSRA HLL kit, it is limited to two (2) users at a time.
2. Why is "Kernmantle" rope better than standard twisted rope?
Kernmantle rope features a high-strength core and a protective outer sheath. This provides superior abrasion resistance and, more importantly, much less "stretch" than twisted rope, which is critical for reducing fall distance.
3. What is the maximum span length for this system?
The system comes with 100 feet of rope for spans up to 100 feet. It is vital to calculate fall clearance based on your specific span, as longer spans result in more deflection during a fall.
4. Does this kit come with everything needed to attach to a roof?
The kit includes two 6' cross-arm straps for structural beams. For standing seam metal roofs, you must use specialized base plates and anchors like the SSRA HLL Kit for a safe and compliant installation.
5. How much fall clearance is required for a 4-man system?
Clearance depends on span length and worker count. Always refer to the clearance charts in the Malta Instruction Manual above to determine safe working heights for your site.
6. Can I use this system as a vertical lifeline?
No. The HLL3001 is strictly for horizontal applications on slopes up to 15 degrees. Vertical work requires a dedicated lifeline with a rope grab.
7. How do I avoid common problems during HLL setup?
- 1. Over-Tensioning: Only use the provided wrench until the tension disk spins freely to ensure proper energy absorption.
- 2. Low Clearance: Never use a horizontal lifeline without verifying you have the required fall depth.
- 3. Sharp Edges: Always use edge protection if the rope passes over an abrasive or sharp corner.
