Nylon Tip Set Screws for SSRA1 Anchors – Pack of 12

Optimize the performance of your standing-seam roof anchor systems with our 12-pack of nylon-tip set screws. These screws are precisely designed for use with the RC clamp, RCT clamp, and SSRA1 seam anchors, providing a reliable, non-penetrating attachment to standing-seam panels. Ideal for both professional contractors and DIY enthusiasts, these nylon tip set screws are perfect for situations where minimizing surface damage is critical, particularly when avoiding paint scratches during anchor installations.

The nylon tip set screws are consumables and should be replaced every 3-5 installations for optimal performance. Whether you're a contractor or a homeowner, these screws offer the perfect balance of strength and surface protection for any fall protection installation.

Compatible with All SSRA1 Seam Clamps and Roof Clamps RC and RCT

Our nylon tip set screws are engineered for versatility, making them an essential component of various fall protection systems, including the SSRA1 4-Piece Pro Pack, 8-Piece Contractors Pack, Ultimate Pro Pack, and Roof Jack Pro Pack. By choosing our nylon tip set screws, you ensure that your standing seam roof anchor system remains secure and ready for any task. These screws are a must-have for contractors who prioritize both safety and the preservation of roofing materials.

Precision Engineering for Non-Penetrating Attachment

These nylon tip set screws measure 3/8-16x1" stainless steel with a durable nylon insert, designed to provide a firm, non-penetrating grip on standing seam panels while minimizing the risk of paint scratches and surface damage. The nylon tips reduce marring compared to non-nylon versions, making them ideal for projects where the visual integrity of the roofing material is paramount. These screws are compatible with 22 and 24-gauge steel panels, offering flexibility across various roofing installations.

Installation Recommendations

These screws require 180-200 in/lbs of torque and a 3/16" Allen/hex bit for installation. Installation is easy: start the screws by hand to avoid cross-threading, then switch to a screwgun and torque wrench for final tightening. Avoid using impact guns, as they may over-torque the screws and damage the threads in the clamps. The nylon tip color may vary, but this does not affect the performance or reliability of the screws.

Advantages of Nylon Tip Set Screws

Nylon Tip Set Screw Frequently Asked Questions

Why are nylon-tipped screws required for 24-gauge steel roofs?

Thinner 24-gauge steel is more susceptible to tearing under the high pressure of a standard cupped set screw. The nylon tip provides a broader, less-marring contact point that achieves the required coefficient of friction at higher torque without compromising the metal panel's integrity. Our 3rd-party lab test reports conclude that nylon tip set screws perform better on 24-gauge steel panels.

How often do I need to replace the nylon set screws?

These are considered consumable safety components. For optimal performance and to maintain a certified hold, they should be replaced after every 3-5 installations, or immediately if the nylon insert becomes missing, severely flattened, or deformed.

Why is the torque setting higher (180-200 in-lbs) for nylon tips?

Because nylon is softer than stainless steel, it requires more compressive force (torque) to achieve sufficient grip on the roof seam. This higher torque ensures the anchor remains OSHA-compliant and slide-resistant during a fall event.

Will these screws fit standard RCT or RC clamps?

Yes. These screws use a standard 3/8-16 thread and are 1 inch long. They are specifically engineered to be interchangeable with the cupped set screws on all SSRA1 anchors and Roof Clamp RC/RCT models. When used in RC and RCT clamps, the standard torque setting is 90 in/lbs.

Can I install these with a standard impact driver?

No. Impact drivers apply uneven force that can strip the aluminum threads of your SSRA1 anchor body or damage the nylon insert due to friction. You must use a calibrated inch-pound torque wrench for the final tightening.

Do these screws provide a 5,000-lb certified hold?

Yes. When used in an SSRA1 anchor on 22 -gauge steel and torqued to the specified 180-200 in-lbs, these screws meet the OSHA and ANSI requirements for a 5,000-lb certified fall arrest anchorage point. when used on 24-gauge steel panels, they meet the OSHA 3,600 lbs protocol.

How do I avoid common problems with nylon set screw installation?

To maximize the life of your hardware and ensure safety, follow these three rules:

  • 1. Start by Hand: Always thread the screws in several turns by hand. This prevents cross-threading into the high-grade aluminum anchor body.
  • 2. Clean the Seam: Ensure the roof seam is free of heavy debris or lubricant before installation to ensure the nylon can properly grip the paint/metal surface.
  • 3. Monitor Tip Wear: If you notice the anchor sliding slightly during a test pull, the nylon inserts may be worn out. Replace the set with a fresh pack immediately.

About Standing Seam Roof Anchor

In 2015, the Standing Seam Roof Anchor System began providing specialized fall protection solutions for standing seam roofs. It all started with the SSRA1 seam anchor, designed to lock onto 95% of all standing seam profiles without penetrating the panels or violating warranties. This patented innovation was the first one-piece design in the industry that used six pairs of opposing set screws for seam attachment.

A couple of months later, the SSRA2 Adjustable Roof Jack adapter was released, making walkboards possible on standing seam roofs. The adjustable height side legs stabilize the roof seams and create a stable walkboard surface. After that, we introduced the SSRA3 Anchor Plate, which allows for the deployment of temporary horizontal lifelines on standing seam roofs without penetrations. This comprehensive product line offers unmatched safety and reliability across multiple industries in the U.S. and Canada. All Standing Seam Roof Anchor products are proudly designed and fabricated in the U.S.A.
