Super Anchor 6015D Tie-Off Strap FAQ

1. Can I use these straps for permanent anchorage?

No. These straps are intended for temporary use only. Long-term exposure to UV rays and environmental moisture can degrade the webbing over time. For a permanent solution, we recommend the Super Anchor 2830 ARS Permanent Anchor.

2. What is the difference between "cinched" and "wrapped" installation?

"Wrapping" involves passing the strap around a beam and connecting both D-rings to your carabiner. "Cinching" involves passing one D-ring through the other to create a slip-knot effect. Both are compliant, but cinching reduces the overall length of the strap more than wrapping.

3. Can I use this strap around a sharp steel I-beam?

If the edges of the steel are sharp, you must use a wear-pad or edge-protector between the strap and the steel. A sharp edge can slice through webbing during a fall arrest, even with a 5,000 lb rating. Review the Super Anchor 6015D Instruction Manual for edge-safety details.

4. Is this strap compatible with Self-Retracting Lifelines (SRLs)?

Yes. The 6015D is a heavy-duty anchor point that accepts the snap hooks or carabiners used on the majority of SRLs. Just ensure your total system falls within the 340 lb user weight limit.

5. How do I inspect my straps for safety?

Inspect for any cuts, burns, fraying, or chemical damage to the webbing. Check the D-rings for deformation or rust. If the strap has been subjected to a fall, or if the "warning" stitching is broken, it must be removed from service and destroyed immediately.

6. Can more than one person tie off to a single strap?

No. The 6015D is rated as a single-person anchorage device. Connecting multiple workers to one strap violates OSHA and ANSI standards and significantly increases the risk of anchor failure.

7. How do I avoid common mistakes with anchor straps?

  • 1. Improper Structure: Ensure the wood beam or steel pipe you are anchoring to is capable of supporting the 5,000 lb load required by OSHA.
  • 2. Knotting the Strap: Never tie a knot in the webbing to shorten it; this can reduce the strength of the strap by up to 50%.
  • 3. Low Clearance: Remember that the length of the strap adds to your total fall distance. Ensure you have sufficient clearance below your work area.
