Who Needs This Product

ARS anchors are for residential roofing contractors, solar installers, and builders who need permanent tie-off points on wood-framed roofs. The 2x4 model fits 2x4 top chords. One anchor supports one worker at up to 310 lb including tools, in fall arrest within 30 degrees of vertical center or fall restraint anywhere without free fall exposure. Each worker wears a full body harness with an energy-absorbing lanyard, vertical lifeline with rope grab, or SRL. ARS anchors are not for work positioning, horizontal lifelines, or hoisting.

Features

5,000 lb stainless construction

14 gauge 430 stainless steel with a 5,000 lb minimum breaking strength and stamped date of manufacture.

Complete watertight kit

TPE base flashing installs shingle-style and the ABS stem cover seals the stem seams against water penetration.

Factory bolt and teko nails

Every kit includes the required 5/16 inch grade 8 attachment bolt, locknut, star washer, wing nut, and 6 teko nails.

Dual purpose ridge anchor

One anchor 12 to 18 inches below the ridge provides service zones for both sides of the roof.

Energy absorbing stem

The stem deforms at approximately 450 lb during arrest, limiting force into the framing, and deformed anchors retire visibly.

2 complete retail kits

2 retail-packaged kits, each with an ARS 2x4 stainless anchor, black TPE base flashing, ABS stem cover, zip tie tether strap, and fastener pack.

The attachment bolt is required. Anchors attached only with teko nails will not arrest a fall. Install the Super Anchor supplied 5/16 inch grade 8 bolt on every anchor, and never use the anchor for fall protection until roof sheathing is in place at the anchor location. Framing must support 5,000 lb or 2 times the intended load per OSHA 1926.502(d)(15), with engineering by a qualified or competent person.

ANSI Z359.18-17 Type D

Permanent anchorage connector compliance per the 2025 ARS instruction manual.

Installation Overview

Full figures, service zone diagrams, and bolt specifications are in the 2025 ARS manual linked below. The basic sequence:

  1. Locate the anchor over a 2x4 top chord 12 to 18 inches below the hip or ridge, at locations set by the job specific fall protection plan.
  2. Confirm sheathing is installed at the anchor location; for open framing use Super Anchor Safety Bars instead until the deck is on.
  3. Set the anchor legs over the top chord and drive 3 teko nails into each leg side to prevent movement.
  4. Install the factory 5/16 inch grade 8 bolt: bolt-under the chord, or bolt-thru with a 3/8 inch pilot hole, with locknut tightened.
  5. Install the TPE base flashing shingle-style and snap the ABS stem cover over the stem to seal the seams.
  6. Verify the installation with the inspection record in the job specific plan before first use.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before installation and each use, with documented annual inspections. Remove the anchor from service when any of the following apply:

  • The anchor stem is deformed; stems deform at approximately 450 lb from a fall, abuse, or material loading. Replace the anchor and never re-bend a stem.
  • The attachment bolt is missing or only teko nails are installed.
  • Teko nails are missing from either leg side.
  • The PID label is missing.
  • The anchor was subjected to a fall; replace it and inspect the framing before installing a new anchor.

Tag anchors removed from service to prevent further use until inspected by a qualified or competent person.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the pack?
2 retail-packaged kits, each with an ARS 2x4 stainless anchor, black TPE base flashing, ABS stem cover, zip tie tether strap, and fastener pack. Every anchor has its required flashing, stem cover, and fastener pack, so there is nothing else to buy for installation.
Which top chord size does the 2830 fit?
The 2830 model fits 2x4 top chords. It bolts directly to 2x4 truss top chords with the factory bolt, either bolt-under or bolt-thru with a 3/8 inch pilot hole.
Can I install ARS anchors on an existing shingle roof?
ARS anchors are designed for installation during roofing, with the flashing woven in shingle-style. For completed roofs, Super Anchor RS series retrofit anchors install over the finished roofing instead.
Can I attach a lifeline directly to the ARS anchor?
Yes, the 1 inch connector hole accepts snaphooks and carabiners meeting current OSHA, ANSI, or CSA standards, connecting a vertical lifeline with a rope grab and energy absorber or an SRL. Workers stay inside the 30 degree fall arrest service zone off vertical center.
Is the ARS anchor permanent?
Yes. The stainless anchor installs under the roofing with its flashing and stem cover, stays with the building for future maintenance access, and is certified as an ANSI Z359.18-17 Type D permanent anchorage connector.
What happens to the anchor after a fall?
The stem is designed to deform at approximately 450 lb, absorbing energy during arrest. A deformed anchor must be removed from service, disposed of so it cannot be reused, and the framing inspected before a replacement is installed. Never re-bend a stem.
Why are teko nails not enough?
Teko nails only prevent the anchor from shifting during use. In a fall, nails alone will pull out. The Super Anchor supplied 5/16 inch grade 8 attachment bolt carries the arrest load, which is why the manual requires it on every anchor.
