Super Anchor Safety RS Series

RS-20 Long Reach Anchor for Tile, Wall, and Deck, 3-Pack

The Super Anchor 2816 RS-20 is a 430 stainless steel retrofit roof anchor with a dacromet coated, stamped D-ring and a 5,000 lb minimum tensile strength. The 17-1/2 inch leg fastens to a top chord with 8 Super Anchor supplied 3 inch stainless spiral nails or bugle head screws, under or over the roofing, and the low profile D-ring stays exposed for tie-off. This listing is a pack.

Fall arrest and fall restraint for one worker at 310 lb including tools, with a 6 ft maximum free fall on slopes to 12/12. The 17-1/2 inch leg adds capabilities the shorter models do not have: high profile tile roofs, fully sheathed vertical walls with bugle head screws, and 20 gauge metal decking with Blazer 12-14 screws per the 08-2020 metal deck addendum. Compliant with OSHA 1926.502 and ANSI Z359.18-17 Type A.

Who Needs This Product

RS anchors are for roofers, maintenance crews, and building owners adding permanent tie-off points to roofs that are already finished: retrofit installs on existing shingle, tile, and metal-decked buildings without tear-off. Each worker wears a full body harness with a personal energy absorber and connects a lifeline or SRL-LE to the exposed D-ring. Anchors space a maximum of 8 ft on center and a minimum of 6 ft from gable edges, and areas outside the 30 degree arrest zone rig as fall restraint. RS anchors are not for window washing, horizontal lifelines, work positioning, scaffolding, hoisting, or lifting.

Features

430 stainless with dacromet D-ring

Two layers of 20 gauge 430 stainless in the leg with a dacromet coated forged D-ring, stamped with date of manufacture.

5,000 lb minimum tensile

Full strength anchorage with a 3,600 lb maximum service load applied 0 to 30 degrees off vertical center.

17-1/2 inch leg, 8 fasteners

Sized for its substrate with 3/16 inch fastener holes and Super Anchor supplied spiral nails or bugle head screws.

Retrofit installation

Installs on existing roofs under or over the roofing, sealed with butyl strips or caulking for permanent weatherproof placement.

Blow-out inspection design

Fastener blow-outs show on the underside of framing for a fast pre-use check, and anchors relocate if a blow-out appears.

Low profile

Sits nearly flush under the roofing with only the D-ring exposed, blending into the finished roof.

Reverse and side loads pull fasteners out. Fasteners may unzip when loaded opposite or across the slope, in a free fall, from static loading, or on slopes over 12/12. Load the anchor downslope of vertical center only, space multiple anchors correctly to avoid side loading, and never exceed a 30 degree angle off vertical center in fall arrest. Sheathing must be installed before the anchor is used for fall protection.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.18-17 Type A

RS series anchors comply with ANSI Z359.18-17 Type A per the 2025 RS Series manual.

Installation Overview

Full figures, fastener tables, and spacing rules are in the 2025 RS Series manual linked below. The basics:

  1. Install anchors at the ridge or in the field a minimum of 6 ft from gable edges or free fall hazards, spaced a maximum of 8 ft on center or per the job specific plan.
  2. Position the anchor leg over a top chord center with the fastener holes aligned per the manual figures, D-ring downslope.
  3. Drive all 8 Super Anchor supplied fasteners: 3 inch stainless spiral nails, or bugle head screws with a cordless drill at the lowest torque setting, never by hammering screws.
  4. Angle the off-center fasteners toward the top chord center, with a minimum 2 inch fastener depth into the chord.
  5. Lay roofing over the leg with the butyl strip or mastic sealing the penetrations, leaving the D-ring exposed.
  6. Check the underside of the framing for fastener blow-outs; any blow-out means remove the anchor and relocate it.
  7. For tile roofs, install one anchor on each side of the ridge or in the field, conform the leg to the tile profile with a minimum of 5 fasteners starting at the top of the leg, and position the D-ring exposure before tiling.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before installation and each use, with documented annual inspections. Remove the anchor from service when any of the following apply:

  • The D-ring or shackle is deformed.
  • Fasteners are missing or show blow-outs on the underside of the framing; remove the anchor and relocate it.
  • Screws were installed by hammering or fasteners were reused.
  • The anchor was subjected to a free fall.
  • The PID label is missing or illegible.

Tag anchors removed from service to prevent further use until inspected by a qualified or competent person.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the RS-20 work on metal decking and walls?
Yes, and it is the only RS model rated for them: minimum 20 gauge Type B metal decking using Blazer 12-14 screws per the 08-2020 addendum, and fully sheathed vertical walls braced to support the fall protection load using bugle head screws, never nails, per the 2025 manual.
How many anchors are in this pack?
Pack. Anchors space a maximum of 8 ft on center, so a pack covers a typical residential roof section; larger roofs combine packs for full coverage layouts.
Can I leave the anchor installed permanently?
Yes. RS anchors install under or over the roofing with sealed fastener penetrations and stay with the building for future maintenance access, which is how schools and commercial buildings run full-coverage anchor layouts.
What connects to the D-ring?
ANSI or CSA compliant snaphooks and carabiners with 3,600 lb gate strengths, typically on a vertical lifeline with a rope grab and personal energy absorber, or an SRL-LE. Maximum arrest force with the energy absorber is 1,800 lb.
What are the service zone limits?
Fall arrest within 30 degrees of vertical center, on slopes up to 12/12. Outside the 30 degree angle and on the perimeter, rig for fall restraint with no free fall exposure. Never load the anchor in reverse, up the slope.
What do I inspect before each use?
Check the D-ring and shackle for deformation, confirm all fasteners are present, and inspect the underside of the framing for fastener blow-outs. Remove the anchor from service after any fall.
What fasteners does it use?
8 Super Anchor supplied fasteners per anchor: 3 inch stainless spiral nails, or bugle head screws driven with a cordless drill at the lowest torque setting. Never install screws by hammering, never reuse fasteners, and never substitute other types.
