Hunting Lifelines

Tree Stand Lifelines

A tree stand lifeline is a rope tied around the tree above your stand and down to the base, with a prusik knot you clip to your harness tether and slide as you climb. If you slip on the way up or down, the knot grabs the rope and stops the fall. Malta Hunting lifelines are 30 ft for stands up to 25 ft and rated 300 lb per user.

Choose the 30 ft Reflective Lifeline in single, 3-, 5- or 9-packs for every stand on a property, or the Two-User Lifeline for buddy stands.

How to use a tree stand lifeline
  1. Install from the stand. Loop the lifeline around the tree above the stand, drop the tail and tie it off at the base.
  2. Test the prusik. Pull sharply on the carabiner before each use; the knot must grab the rope.
  3. Clip and climb. Clip the prusik carabiner to your harness tether and slide the knot as you go. Never hold the knot while climbing.
  4. In the stand. Slide the knot above your head so the tether has no slack, or switch to your tree strap.
  5. Season-long sets. Lifelines can stay on the tree for short periods; inspect for weather and rodent damage before every climb.
