Super Anchor Safety Hinge-2

3013-D Hinge-2 Adjustable Reusable Anchor, 3-Pack

The Super Anchor 3013-D Hinge-2 is the adjustable, reusable temporary anchor: 19 inches of 11 gauge steel with hinge shackles that adjust to the pitch, a forged dacromet coated D-ring, and a 5,000 lb minimum tensile strength. It mounts at the ridge or in the field, and unlike basic hinged anchors it can also anchor a self-retracting lifeline when attached with WS 3.0 hex head screws. This listing is a 3-pack.

One worker at up to 310 lb including tools, 6 ft maximum free fall, on slopes to 24/12 with WS 3.0 wood screws or 12/12 with 16d nails and #12 screws. Temporary only, removed after use. Compliant with OSHA 1926.502 and ANSI Z359.1-07 per the 2024 Hinge-2 manual.

Who Needs This Product

The Hinge-2 is for roofing and solar crews who want one adjustable anchor across every pitch they work: the shackle hinge articulates for ridge or field mounting a minimum of 6 ft from any gable edge, over a minimum 2x4 top chord with 7/16 inch OSB sheathing. Each worker wears a full body harness with connectors carrying 3,600 lb gate strengths per current ANSI and CSA standards. Not for window washing, work positioning, or scaffolding tie-off, and never rig an HLL from nail-attached anchors.

Installation Overview

Full figures and fastener specifications are in the manual linked below. The basics:

  1. Mount at the ridge or in the field, a minimum of 6 ft from any gable edge, over a minimum 2x4 top chord with 7/16 inch OSB sheathing installed.
  2. Choose fasteners for the slope: WS 3.0 hex head wood screws to 24/12, or 16d nails and #12 screws to 12/12.
  3. Drive fasteners through the perimeter holes into framing, with the shackle welds and D-ring oriented downslope.
  4. For SRL anchorage, attach with WS 3.0 hex head screws per the manual figures.
  5. Work within 30 degrees of vertical center for fall arrest, or rig 360 degree fall restraint without free fall exposure.
  6. Remove after use, inspect the shackle welds and D-ring, and redeploy on the next job.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before installation and each use, with documented annual inspections. Remove the anchor from service when any of the following apply:

  • The D-ring or shackle is deformed, or shackle welds show cracks.
  • The anchor body is bent or fastener holes are elongated.
  • The anchor was subjected to a free fall.
  • Corrosion is present that does not clean up.
  • The wrong fastener type was used for the slope or application.

Tag anchors removed from service to prevent further use until inspected by a qualified or competent person.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Hinge-2 different from a basic hinged anchor?
The shackle hinge articulates to the pitch instead of a fixed fold, the D-ring is forged and dacromet coated, the slope rating extends to 24/12 with WS 3.0 screws, and it is rated to anchor an SRL when screw-attached. It is the anchor in Super Anchor MAX kits.
Can I anchor an SRL to it?
Yes, when the anchor is attached with WS 3.0 hex head screws per the manual figures. Nail-attached anchors are not rated for SRL anchorage.
How close to the edge can I mount it?
Keep a minimum of 6 ft from any gable edge, ridge or field mounted, with locations set by the job specific plan and free fall hazards identified.
Can I run a horizontal lifeline between Hinge-2 anchors?
Only as an engineered system per the Hinge-2 No. 1321 HLL manual, designed by a competent or qualified person, and never from anchors attached with nails.
Is it reusable?
Yes. It is a temporary anchor that removes after use and redeploys while it passes inspection: straight body, sound shackle welds, clean D-ring, and no fall history.
What slope can I work on?
Up to 24/12 with WS 3.0 hex head wood screws, or up to 12/12 with 16d nails or #12 wood screws, per the 2024 manual.
What PPE pairs with it?
A full body harness with snaphooks or carabiners carrying 3,600 lb gate strengths per current ANSI and CSA standards, on a vertical lifeline with rope grab and energy absorber, or an SRL on screw-attached anchors.
