Who Is Encore Steel Buildings?

Encore Steel Building Co. is a premier nationwide supplier of pre-engineered steel buildings and high-quality metal building components headquartered in Southaven, Mississippi. With over 30 years of industry experience, the company has established a formidable reputation for delivering durable steel structures and advanced roofing solutions. They specialize in customizable prefabricated metal building kits designed for maximum strength and long-term performance across commercial, industrial, agricultural, and residential sectors.

To better serve their national client base, Encore Steel operates additional strategic locations in Austell, Georgia, as well as Owasso and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Their direct-to-customer sales model eliminates unnecessary middleman markups, allowing clients to purchase premium metal buildings and roofing components at highly competitive prices. A cornerstone of their product line is their standing-seam metal roofing systems. These panels offer superior weather resistance and sleek architectural appeal, featuring Kynar/PVDF-coated finishes for optimal longevity. To ensure professional-grade results, Encore has partnered with Quality Roof Seamers to provide specialized seaming tool rentals. Their commitment to innovation and top-tier materials makes them a leading competitor in the steel building industry.

Why Are Compatible Fall Protection Anchors Critical For Encore Standing-Seam Panels?

Encore Steel standing-seam panels provide elite durability and a modern aesthetic with concealed-fastener designs. Traditional fall-protection anchors that require drilling or penetrations are not compatible with these systems. Puncturing the metal compromises the roof's integrity, leading to leaks, structural weaknesses, and the immediate voiding of the manufacturer's warranty.

To ensure OSHA compliance while protecting the structural and watertight integrity of the roof, we recommend the following specialized, non-penetrating components:

  • Standing Seam Roof Anchor (SSRA1): This anchor serves as the foundation of the safety system. It clamps securely to compatible standing seams (22- and 24-gauge) without drilling, preserving the warranty and the roof's weathertight seal.
  • SSRA2 Adjustable Roof Jacks: These mount directly to the SSRA1 to support 10-foot walkboards. This setup provides workers with a stable and level platform for navigating sloped roofs.
  • SSRA3 Anchor Plates: These aluminum spanner plates provide attachment points for temporary horizontal lifelines, facilitating 100% tie-off compliance for multiple workers.
  • 100-Foot SSRA Temporary HLL Kit: This kit provides a complete and non-penetrating lifeline solution for rapid deployment on expansive Encore Steel industrial or commercial projects.
  • 120-Foot Super Anchor Permanent HLL Kit: This system provides a permanent, non-penetrating cable solution for long-term facility maintenance, using 5-inch galvanized steel riser posts and non-penetrating seam clamps.
  • Ridge Pro Steep Assist Anchor: This anchor hooks securely over the roof peak to provide a reliable tie-off point for slopes between 6:12 and 12:12 where seam-mounted anchors may not be compatible.

Proper Attachment: Set Screws and Torque Requirements

Your safety and the certified holding power of the SSRA1 anchor depend on correct set-screw application. We provide specialized fastening options based on the material gauge of your Encore Steel panels:

  • Cupped-Tip Stainless Steel Set Screws: Use these exclusively on 22-gauge steel panels. Torque them to 90 inch-pounds for a secure and non-destructive lock.
  • Nylon-Tipped Set Screws: Apply these to 22- and 24-gauge steel panels to achieve certified holding power. Torque them to 180–200 inch-pounds for maximum strength.
  • Maintenance: Treat nylon tips as consumables. Replace them every 3 to 5 uses to ensure they maintain the necessary coefficient of friction.

CRITICAL WARNING: NO IMPACT GUNS

Never use an impact gun to install set screws. Over-torquing with an impact driver will crush the standing seam, damage the anchor hardware, and void the Encore Steel manufacturer's warranty. Always use a calibrated torque wrench for final installation.

The SSR-Lok 200 is a mechanically field-seamed standing-seam system featuring a 2-inch-tall seam. Available in 22- and 24-gauge steel with widths from 12 to 24 inches. This capability reduces material costs while maintaining a high-performance system that withstands extreme weather. See the Roof Anchor Compatibility Chart for 22 Gauge and 24 Gauge Encore Steel Buildings SSR-Lok 200 Standing Seam Metal Roofing.

Fall Protection for SSR-Lok 200 Panels

Proper fall protection for the SSR-Lok 200 requires the SSRA1 Seam Anchor for a reliable, non-penetrating tie-off point. The SSRA2 Adjustable Roof Jack adapters provide level OSHA-compliant walkboards by mounting to the seam anchors. For larger rooflines, the 100-foot SSRA Temporary HLL Kit supports horizontal lifelines for continuous worker mobility. Long-term safety for facility managers is best handled via the 120-foot Super Anchor Permanent HLL Kit. On roof slopes of 6:12 to 12:12, the Ridge Pro Steep Assist remains the preferred solution for peak-to-ladder transitions.

The 100-foot SSRA Temporary HLL Kit expands the system's utility for multi-worker crews. The 120-foot Super Anchor Permanent HLL Kit provides a lifelong, non-penetrating safety solution for the building owner. For steep slopes or complex geometries, the Ridge Pro Steep Assist hooks securely over the ridge to provide a stable anchorage point without requiring direct seam attachment.

American Engineering vs. Bargain Imports

Unbranded, imported fall-protection anchors that lack verifiable engineering documentation are currently flooding the market. When you install high-performance Encore Steel systems, your choice of safety hardware should reflect that same commitment to quality. To truly guarantee worker safety, ISO 17025 testing labs must prove an anchor's reliability through rigorous testing. This level of certification ensures the equipment will withstand extreme dynamic loads. By choosing the SSRA system, you are investing in American-made reliability and providing the ironclad compliance data needed to protect your crew and your business.

Safety Tips For Standing Seam Roofs

  • Prioritize Ladder Safety Training: Safety managers must ensure workers properly secure ladders on stable ground, maintain three points of contact, and adhere to the 4-to-1 ratio for safe positioning.
  • Use Specialized Anchor Systems for Standing Seam Roofs: Non-penetrating seam-specific anchors clamp onto the seams without damage, preserving the roof's integrity while providing reliable tie-off points.
  • Equip Workers with High-Quality Safety Gear: Project managers should provide OSHA-approved harnesses, lanyards, and self-retracting lifelines matching job hazards.
  • Install Permanent Roof Anchor Systems: For buildings requiring frequent maintenance, permanent roof anchors provide a safe, long-term solution and streamline safety protocols.
  • Ensure Proper Footwear for Stability: Roofing-specific boots with slip-resistant soles provide stability on steep slopes and slick surfaces.
  • Set Up Protective Guardrail Barriers for Work Zones: Strategically placed barriers help define work areas and improve hazard awareness on large or low-slope roofs.
  • Encourage the Use of Trauma Straps: Trauma straps allow workers to relieve leg pressure and restore blood flow while awaiting rescue in a fall event.
  • Develop OSHA-Compliant Safety Plans: A comprehensive plan should outline clear fall protection measures, emergency rescue procedures, and site-specific hazards.
  • Promote a Culture of Safety: Encouraging hazards reporting and open discussions about safety concerns fosters a proactive mindset and job site efficiency.
  • Consult Experts for Curved Metal Panels: Expert input helps tailor fall protection strategies to the complexities of curved panels, preserving worker safety and roof performance.
