Super Anchor Safety CRA-4 Series

1033-4G CRA-4 18 Inch 4-Way Anchor Post

The Super Anchor 1033-4G is a 18 inch CRA-4 4-way anchor post, the riser that anchors horizontal lifeline intersections when fitted with the No. 1054 4-Way Top Fixture, sold separately. The foam filled, hot dip galvanized 3.0 inch Schedule 80 riser stands on a 52-hole 16x16x3/8 inch base plate, and the anchor is third-party certified with a 5,000 lb ultimate strength.

What is included: the riser post with base plate only; the No. 1054 top fixture is not included. The bare riser tube accepts the No. 1054 4-Way Top Fixture, which is required and sold separately, secured with a 1/2 x 4-1/2 inch stainless attachment bolt and 3 set screws. The fixture accepts up to 4 HLL run attachments for T, 90 degree, 45 degree, and 4-way intersections, plus single person loop top tie-off. Because 4-way anchors serve horizontal lifelines, they must be bolted, field welded, or concrete embedded, never screw attached. Compliant with ANSI Z359.18-17 and OSHA 1926.502, with CSA Z259.15:22 conformity per the 01-2023 manual.

Who Needs This Product

The 1033-4G is for contractors and building owners running multiple CRA horizontal lifeline runs across one roof. Where two or more runs meet, a 4-way anchor post fitted with the 1054 fixture ties the intersection together so T, 90 degree, 45 degree, and full 4-way layouts rig from a single anchor, and attaching HLL A ends at the 4-way lets the turnbuckle adjustment and energy absorber tension be monitored from one location. The 18 inch riser steps up to heavy wall Schedule 80 pipe and clears thick insulation packages and deep ballast. Each connected run supports 2 workers in fall arrest or 4 workers in fall restraint at 310 lb per user including tools per the 02-2021 rigging manual, and intermediate anchors are spaced 20 to 30 ft on center.

Features

Requires the 1054 4-Way Top Fixture

The riser ships without a top. Add the No. 1054 fixture, sold separately in galvanized or stainless, to accept up to 4 HLL attachments and single person loop top tie-off.

Up to 4 HLL runs

The 4-way top rigs T, 90 degree, 45 degree, and 4-way intersections with turnbuckle B ends and A end couplers per the 02-2021 rigging manual.

Foam filled galvanized riser

Polyurethane foam filling and ASTM 123 hot dip galvanizing protect the 3.0 inch Schedule 80 riser inside and out, rated for -30 to +130 degrees F.

Single location tensioning

Attaching HLL A ends to the 4-way allows turnbuckle adjustment and energy absorber tension to be monitored from a single location.

Bolted structural attachment

The 52-hole 16x16x3/8 inch base plate bolts with certified 1/2 inch hardware, field welds, or embeds in concrete; 4-way HLL anchors are never screw attached.

Traceable and inspectable

PID specification label, stainless threaded vent hole plug, and serial number tag on every stock post.

The 1054 4-Way Top Fixture is required and sold separately. The 1033-4G riser ships without a top and cannot be used for fall protection until the fixture is installed with its 1/2 x 4-1/2 inch stainless attachment bolt, seal washers on both ends, and 3 set screws. Because 4-way anchors serve horizontal lifelines, they must be bolted, field welded, or concrete embedded, never screw attached, and the supporting structure must hold 5,000 lb or 2 times the intended load per OSHA 1910.140.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.18-17 Type A/T

Anchorage connector compliance verified by Intertek lab reports per the 01-2023 CRA manual.

Installation Overview

Full rigging procedures and fixture attachment figures are in the CRA HLL Rigging Manual linked below. The essentials:

  1. Confirm the attachment point supports 5,000 lb or 2 times the intended load, with locations specified by the project architect, engineer, or safety consultant.
  2. Bolt the base plate with certified 1/2 inch grade 8, grade 5, or 18-8 stainless bolts with matching lock nuts, field weld with an E70XX certified welder, or concrete embed in 2,500 PSI minimum concrete.
  3. Set the No. 1054 4-Way Top Fixture onto the riser, align the attachment bolt holes, and insert the 1/2 x 4-1/2 inch stainless bolt with seal washers on both ends.
  4. Tighten the 3 set screws evenly with a 3/16 inch hex wrench, then tighten the attachment bolt with 3/4 inch wrenches until the seal washers are firmly set against the riser wall; do not over tighten.
  5. Attach up to 4 HLL runs at the 4-way top, rigging each B end first and tensioning turnbuckles per the 02-2021 rigging manual.
  6. Inspect the completed intersection, clamps, and tension gauges before the system goes into service.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before installation and each use, with documented annual inspections. Remove the anchor from service when any of the following apply:

  • The riser is bent or deformed.
  • Weld cracks are present.
  • Rust that does not clean up with cold zinc coating.
  • Fasteners are missing; do not use until the installation is corrected.
  • The PID label or vent hole plug is missing and cannot be replaced.
  • The anchor was subjected to a free fall or the supporting structure is damaged.

Tag anchors removed from service to prevent further use until inspected by a qualified or competent person.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the 1033-4G come with a top?
No. The riser ships open topped and requires the No. 1054 4-Way Top Fixture, sold separately in hot dip galvanized or stainless steel. The post cannot be used for fall protection until the fixture is installed.
How does the 1054 fixture attach to this post?
The fixture sets over the riser top and locks down with a 1/2 x 4-1/2 inch stainless hex bolt with seal washers on both ends plus 3 set screws driven with a 3/16 inch hex wrench, tightened per page 4 of the 02-2021 HLL rigging manual.
How many lifeline runs can connect at one 4-way post?
Up to 4 HLL run attachments per the rigging manual, covering T, 90 degree, 45 degree, and full 4-way intersections. Each run supports 2 workers in fall arrest or 4 workers in fall restraint at 310 lb per user including tools.
Can a worker tie off directly at the 4-way?
Yes, once the 1054 fixture is installed its loop top may be used for single person tie-off per Fig. 10.5 of the rigging manual, in addition to the HLL attachments.
Which CRA-4 height should I choose?
Match the riser to the roof assembly: 5 inch for low profile decks, 12 inch above gravel and ballast, 18 inch for thick insulation packages, and 24 inch for deep overburden. All four heights take the same 1054 fixture.
Can the 1033-4G be screw attached?
No. 4-way anchors serve horizontal lifelines, and HLL anchors must be bolted, field welded, or concrete embedded because cable vibration and line tension work screws loose.
What inspections does the anchor require?
Inspect before installation and each use, and document annual inspections. Check for riser deformation, weld cracks, rust, missing fasteners, loose set screws at the fixture, and the PID label, and remove the anchor from service after any fall until a qualified or competent person inspects it.
