1031-PG CRA-PT 5 Inch HLL Pass-Thru Anchor Post

The Super Anchor 1031-PG is a 5 inch CRA-PT pass-thru anchor post: a No. 1091 cast steel pass-thru top on a foam filled, hot dip galvanized Schedule 40 riser with a 6x6x3/8 inch 4-hole base plate and included stainless attachment bolts. It is the intermediate anchor for CRA horizontal lifeline systems, letting the HLL cable run through the top so workers travel the entire span without disconnecting.

Space intermediate anchors at a maximum of 30 ft in CRA horizontal lifelines up to 240 ft, used with the No. 5010-SM connector ring for hands-free travel. The 4-hole base also bolts to the corner holes of the 1207 standing seam plate for HLL runs on metal roofs. 5,000 lb minimum tensile strength, ANSI Z359.18-17 and OSHA 1926.502 compliant per the 01-2023 CRA manual.

Who Needs This Product

The 1031-PG is for crews running engineered horizontal lifelines across commercial roofs and structures. It is an HLL intermediate anchor only: it supports the lifeline cable between end anchors and lets the traveling connector ring pass through without disconnecting, which keeps workers tied off across the full span. End anchorage uses loop top anchors such as the 1031-W, and every worker wears a full body harness with an energy absorber, lanyard, or SRL meeting current OSHA, ANSI, or CSA standards.

Features

Pass-thru cable top

The No. 1091 cast steel top carries the HLL cable and passes the No. 5010-SM connector ring so workers travel the whole line without unclipping.

30 ft intermediate spacing

Intermediate anchors support CRA horizontal lifelines up to 240 ft with a maximum of 30 ft between anchors.

Foam filled galvanized riser

Polyurethane foam filling and ASTM 123 hot dip galvanizing protect the 3.0 inch Schedule 40 riser, rated -30 to +130 degrees F.

Bolts included

Ships with 4 stainless 1/2 x 1-3/4 inch attachment bolts with lock nuts and washers for the 4-hole base plate.

Intermediate anchor only. The 1031-PG pass-thru top is not a tie-off point and not an HLL end anchor. Use loop top anchors for end anchorage and PPE connections, and rig the system to the CRA Horizontal Lifeline Rigging Manual. HLL anchors must be bolted, field welded, or concrete embedded, never screw attached, and the structure must hold 5,000 lb or 2 times the intended load per OSHA 1910.140.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.18-17 Type A/T

Anchorage connector compliance per the 01-2023 CRA manual and Intertek lab reports.

OSHA 1926.502 / 1910.140

Meets construction anchorage criteria with 5,000 lb structural support requirements.

CSA Z259.15:22 Type A/T

Canadian anchorage connector conformity for cross-border crews.

DH Glabe HLL Engineering

CRA horizontal lifeline systems carry third-party engineering with reports available on request.

Typical Applications

HLL Intermediate AnchorSupports the cable between end anchors on spans up to 240 ft.
Standing Seam RoofsBolts to 1207 plates for HLL runs across metal roofs.
Ridge Line LifelinesContinuous tie-off along commercial roof ridges.
Concrete DecksWedge bolt, epoxy, or poured-in-place installations.
Structural SteelBolt attached or field welded to steel members.
Metal DeckingAttached to Type B decking per fastener specifications.
Wood FramingBolted with backer plates per the manual figures.
Long Roof RunsHands-free travel with the 5010-SM connector ring.

Installation Overview

Full procedures, fastener tables, and HLL layout are in the CRA manual and HLL Rigging Manual linked below. The essentials:

  1. Lay out the HLL with end anchors at the span ends and intermediate pass-thru anchors spaced a maximum of 30 ft, per the project engineer or SAS plan service.
  2. Bolt the 4-hole base with the included stainless bolts, or field weld or concrete embed per the manual; never screw attach HLL anchors.
  3. On the 1207 standing seam plate, bolt the base to the plate corner holes with the supplied bolts.
  4. Route the HLL cable through the 1091 pass-thru tops and rig end anchorage, tensioner, and energy absorber per the CRA HLL Rigging Manual.
  5. Install the No. 5010-SM connector ring on the cable as the traveling PPE connection point.
  6. Have the completed installation inspected and certified by a qualified or competent person before use.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before installation and each use, with documented annual inspections. Remove the anchor from service when any of the following apply:

  • The riser is bent or deformed.
  • Weld cracks are present.
  • Rust that does not clean up with cold zinc coating.
  • Fasteners are missing; do not use until the installation is corrected.
  • The PID label or vent hole plug is missing and cannot be replaced.
  • The anchor was subjected to a fall load or the supporting structure is damaged.

Tag anchors removed from service to prevent further use until inspected by a qualified or competent person.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a pass-thru anchor do?
It supports a horizontal lifeline cable between end anchors while letting the traveling connector ring pass through the 1091 top, so a worker clipped to the No. 5010-SM ring moves along the entire lifeline without disconnecting at each post.
Can I tie off directly to the 1031-PG?
No. The pass-thru top is an HLL intermediate anchor only. Tie-off points and HLL end anchorage use loop top anchors such as the 1031-W, or the 1028 Swivel-D on appropriate bases.
How many pass-thru anchors does my lifeline need?
CRA horizontal lifelines run up to 240 ft with intermediate anchors spaced a maximum of 30 ft apart, so a 120 ft span typically uses 3 intermediate anchors between the two end anchors, with the final count set by the project engineer or SAS plan service.
Does the 1031-PG work on standing seam roofs?
Yes. The 6x6x3/8 inch 4-hole base bolts to the corner holes of the 1207 SSCA standing seam plate with the included bolts, which is exactly how the Super Anchor 120 ft standing seam HLL kit runs its intermediate anchors.
Can I screw attach the 1031-PG?
No. HLL anchors must be bolted, field welded, or concrete embedded per the CRA manual. Screw attachment is only permitted for single person loop top anchors with risers 18 inches or shorter.
What connector ring does the system use?
The No. 5010-SM connector ring rides the HLL cable and passes through the 1091 tops. PPE connectors attach to the ring with 3,600 lb gate strength snaphooks or carabiners meeting current standards.
What inspections does the anchor require?
Inspect before each use and document annual inspections: check for riser deformation, weld cracks, rust, missing fasteners, and PID label condition, and remove the anchor from service after any fall event until inspected by a qualified or competent person.
