Super Anchor Safety SSCA Series

1207 Standing Seam Plate Anchor for Metal Roofs

The Super Anchor 1207 SSCA is a non-penetrating fall protection anchor plate for standing seam metal roofs. The 3/8 inch grade 5052 aluminum base plate clamps to the panel seams with two No. 1208 seam clamps or four RCT seam clamps, so there are no holes in the roof and no compromised panels. Third-party tested by Intertek to withstand a 5,000 lb force in the specified load direction, and stamped with its date of manufacture for traceability.

Three plate sizes cover panel seam spacings from 8-1/2 inches up to 26-1/2 inches, and the clamp positions reverse to fit narrower seams. Use it for fall arrest, fall restraint, or as an end anchor in a Super Anchor engineered horizontal lifeline system, permanently installed or moved from job to job. Compliant with ANSI Z359.1-07 and OSHA 1926.502. US Patent 11,603,675-B2.

Who Needs This Product

This anchor plate is for crews that work on standing seam metal roofs and cannot put holes in the panels: metal roofing contractors, HVAC and solar technicians, maintenance teams, and inspectors. The 1207 is the anchorage component of a personal fall arrest or fall restraint system. Each worker still needs a full body harness and a connecting device such as an energy-absorbing lanyard, a vertical lifeline with a rope grab, or a self-retracting lifeline. One plate supports one worker at up to 310 lb including tools and equipment, and a pair of plates can serve as end anchors for a Super Anchor engineered horizontal lifeline supporting 2 workers in fall arrest or 3 workers in fall restraint.

Features

Non-penetrating seam clamp attachment

The plate grips the panel seams with clamps, based on friction rather than fasteners. No holes, no sealant, and no leak path through the roof when the anchor is removed.

Three sizes with reversible clamp positions

Plates fit seam spacings of 12 to 18, 14 to 22, and 18 to 24 inches on center, and reversing the 1208 clamp position extends the fit down to 8-1/2 inch seams.

Five compatible PPE anchor types

Accepts the No. 1028 Swivel-D, No. 1090-GBS loop top, No. 1215 SRL holder, No. 1037 D-Plate, and No. 1029 D-ShakL at factory-drilled bolt locations.

Third-party tested and traceable

Intertek tested to withstand a 5,000 lb force in the specified load direction. Every plate carries a stamped date of manufacture and a PID specification label.

RCT clamp option for more profiles

When a seam profile is not compatible with the 1208 clamp, four RCT extruded aluminum clamps with stainless set screws attach the same plate to many of the most common panel profiles.

Horizontal lifeline end anchor

Rated for Super Anchor engineered HLL systems supporting 2-person fall arrest or 3-person fall restraint, which makes it the standing seam answer for long roof runs.

Installation Overview

Full procedures, figures, and torque specifications are in the SSCA instruction manual linked below. The basic sequence with No. 1208 clamps:

  1. Confirm the plate size fits the panel seam spacing and a qualified person has verified clamp compatibility with the seam profile.
  2. Attach the seam clamps to the base plate through the bolt slots with the 3/4 inch clamp bolts facing out, leaving the flange nuts loose.
  3. Set the clamps over the panel seams at 90 degrees to the seams and center the base plate.
  4. Torque the 3/4 inch clamp bolts to 50 ft-lb with a calibrated torque wrench, using a minimum of 2 passes.
  5. Torque the base plate bolts to a maximum of 15 ft-lb.
  6. Attach the PPE anchor (Swivel-D, loop top, SRL holder, D-Plate, or D-ShakL) with Super Anchor supplied bolts, with bolt threads penetrating the lock nut at least 1/8 inch.

With RCT clamps, four clamps set about 12 inches apart grip the seam with stainless set screws torqued to 90 in-lb, following the RCT procedure in the manual.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect all components before each use, and have a competent person inspect the anchor annually. Remove the anchor from service when any of the following apply:

  • The anchor has been subjected to a free fall or other impact force.
  • The base plate is bent, deformed, or cracked, or the bolt slots are damaged.
  • Clamp legs are damaged or deformed, or the 3/4 inch bolt nut welds are cracked.
  • Flange nuts or lock nuts have been replaced with other nut types.
  • The PID label is missing or illegible and cannot be replaced.
  • Bolt torque cannot be verified or the anchor fails any inspection point.

Tag equipment removed from service and dispose of it in a way that prevents further use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which standing seam profiles are compatible with the 1207 anchor plate?
The No. 1208 seam clamps fit snap-lock and on-site formed seams with a minimum seam height of 3/4 inch on panels of 24 gauge or thicker, and they are not for low profile snap-lock seams. For seam profiles the 1208 cannot grip, four RCT clamps attach the same plate to many of the most common panel profiles. A qualified person must confirm compatibility before installation, and Super Anchor recommends testing with a sample panel.
What is the difference between the No. 1208 seam clamps and RCT clamps?
The No. 1208 is a 14 inch long, 1/4 inch thick hot dip galvanized steel clamp with welded bolt nuts, and each plate uses 2 clamps torqued to 50 ft-lb. RCT clamps are extruded aluminum with stainless steel set screws torqued to 90 in-lb, and each plate requires 4 clamps. The RCT covers a wider range of seam profiles, which is why we offer an option to add 4 RCT clamps to any plate size.
Which plate size do I need for my roof?
Measure the panel seam spacing on center. The 1207-12x18 fits 10-1/2 to 18-1/2 inch seams with standard clamp positions and down to 8-1/2 inches with reversed clamps, the 1207-14x22 covers 12-1/2 to 23 inches, and the 1207-18x24 covers 16 to 26-1/2 inches. When your seam spacing falls in the overlap between two sizes, either plate works.
Can I use the 1207 plate for a horizontal lifeline?
Yes. In a Super Anchor engineered HLL system the plate serves as an end anchor supporting 2 workers in fall arrest or 3 workers in fall restraint, rigged to the CRA Horizontal Lifeline Rigging Manual, which includes rigging with the No. 1050-G kit and pass-thru hardware. Make sure the connecting hardware and anchorage suit your application before you attach a lanyard or lifeline.
What PPE anchors attach to the base plate?
Five Super Anchor PPE anchors bolt to factory locations on the plate: the No. 1028 Swivel-D that rotates 360 degrees and flips 180 degrees, the No. 1090-GBS loop top, the No. 1215 SRL-UH holder for self-retracting lifelines, the No. 1037 D-Plate, and the No. 1029 D-ShakL. Use only Super Anchor supplied attachment bolts and never drill additional holes in the plate.
Is the 1207 a permanent or temporary anchor?
Both. The anchor is specified for permanent or temporary standing seam fall protection for 1 person at up to 310 lb, with a maximum free fall of 6 ft and a maximum roof slope of 8/12. It is not for window washing, hoisting, or scaffold tie-off. Evaluate the job site and access requirements so the anchor point is positioned safely for the task.
What inspections does the anchor require?
Inspect all components before each use and have a competent person inspect annually, which includes confirming bolt torque, checking the plate for deformation or cracks, checking clamp legs and nut welds, and verifying the PID label is legible. Remove the anchor from service after any fall or impact force.
