FallTech 7531 Trailing Beam Clamp Anchor, Single-Clamp Adjustment

The FallTech 7531 is a reusable trailing beam clamp anchor that provides a rated tie-off point on a structural I-beam without drilling or welding. It clamps to the beam flange and trails along with the worker, keeping the connection point overhead as you move down the beam.

Built with an aluminum crossbar and steel jaws with a swiveling D-ring, it installs by single-clamp adjustment and fits a wide range of standard flange widths up to 1-1/4 in thick. Certified to ANSI Z359.18-2017 as a Type A anchorage with 5,000 lb (22.2 kN) strength. For temporary and mobile use on horizontal I-beams.

Who Needs This Product

This product is a beam anchor, the anchorage component of a personal fall arrest system. Steel erectors, bridge and structural crews, and maintenance workers clamp it to an I-beam flange to create a rated overhead tie-off point, then connect an SRL or energy-absorbing lanyard to the D-ring. As a trailing anchor, it slides along the beam with the worker. You still need a certified full-body harness and a compatible connecting device to complete the system.

Features

No drilling or welding

Clamps directly to the beam flange for a reusable, damage-free anchor point.

Trailing mobility

Slides along the beam with the worker so the tie-off stays overhead as you move.

Single-clamp adjustment

One-clamp adjustment fits a wide range of standard flange widths quickly.

Swiveling steel D-ring

The plated steel D-ring swivels and stays centered under load to reduce twist.

Aluminum crossbar, steel jaws

Lightweight aluminum crossbar with durable steel jaws for repeated jobsite use.

ANSI Z359.18-2017 Type A

Certified 5,000 lb (22.2 kN) anchorage strength for a single-worker personal fall arrest system.

Install tight to the flange and check the jaw gap. The anchor must be clamped firmly with both jaws fully over the beam flange and the D-ring centered. The gap between the beam flange and the jaw must not exceed 11/16 in; if it does, tighten the anchor further. Use only on rated horizontal I-beams and confirm fall clearance and swing-fall with the Fall Protection Calculator below.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.18-2017

American National Standard for anchorage connectors, Type A (model 7531B). 5,000 lb (22.2 kN) strength.

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502

Federal construction fall protection anchorage requirements.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910

General industry personal fall protection requirements.

Reusable Type A anchor

Temporary and mobile use on horizontal I-beams; remove after use.

Typical Applications

Steel erectionOverhead tie-off on the iron.
Bridge and infrastructureBeam-mounted anchor points at height.
Industrial and plantMaintenance on structural beams.
Crane and riggingTrailing anchor along a runway beam.
ManufacturingOverhead work on I-beam structures.
FabricationReusable beam tie-off in the shop.

How to Install the 7531

Follow the FallTech instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the crossbar, jaws, threads, and D-ring for damage or corrosion before each use.
  2. Position. Place both jaws over the beam flange in an approved orientation (trailing top-flange, overhead bottom-flange, or side mount).
  3. Clamp. Slide the jaws together until the anchor is tight to the flange and the D-ring is centered.
  4. Verify the gap. Confirm the gap between the flange and jaw does not exceed 11/16 in; tighten further if needed.
  5. Connect and check clearance. Attach your SRL or lanyard to the D-ring, then confirm fall clearance and swing-fall with the calculator below.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least annually. Remove the anchor from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Crossbar or jaws: cracks, bending, deformation, or corrosion.
  • Threads and adjustment: damaged threads or an adjustment that will not hold.
  • D-ring: deformation, sharp edges, corrosion, or a swivel that binds.
  • Markings: illegible or missing labels.

Remove the anchor from service immediately after any fall-arrest event, and destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the 7531 require drilling or welding?
No. It clamps directly to the beam flange, so it installs and removes without drilling, welding, or damaging the structure.
What is a trailing beam anchor?
A trailing beam anchor slides along the beam flange with the worker, keeping the tie-off point overhead as you move down the beam instead of re-anchoring repeatedly.
What is the rated strength and capacity?
It is certified to ANSI Z359.18-2017 as a Type A anchorage with 5,000 lb (22.2 kN) strength, for one worker up to 310 lb combined weight.
What beams does it fit?
It fits standard horizontal I-beam flanges up to 1-1/4 in thick with single-clamp adjustment. Confirm the exact flange-width range and orientation in the instruction manual.
How do I know it is installed correctly?
Both jaws must be fully over the flange, the anchor tight, the D-ring centered, and the gap between the flange and jaw no more than 11/16 in.
What do I connect to it?
Connect a compatible self-retracting lifeline or energy-absorbing lanyard to the swiveling D-ring, used with a certified full-body harness.
Can it be reused after a fall?
No. Remove the anchor from service immediately after any fall-arrest event and destroy it so it cannot be reused.
