FallTech 8131 FT-One Ultra-Lite 3D Belted Harness, Tongue Buckle

The FallTech 8131 is the 3D Construction Belted flagship of the FT-One Ultra-Lite family, the lightest premium full body harness FallTech has ever built. Industry-first titanium D-rings, vented high-breathability webbing, and low-contact gel padding cut over 30 percent of the weight of comparable premium harnesses, while the padded waist belt carries a dorsal D-ring plus dual hip D-rings for fall arrest and work positioning. Tongue buckle leg closures provide grommeted, glove-friendly adjustment.

It meets ANSI Z359.11-2021, OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140, and CSA Z259.10-2018, and is available in 7 sizes from XS to 3X. Every unit ships with the full FallTech documentation package, linked below for your safety submittals.

Who Needs This Product

Crews who spend the day tied off and positioned on rebar, formwork, steel, and heavy construction. The belted 3D configuration carries a positioning lanyard on the paired hip D-rings and your tool load on the vented waist belt, and the Ultra-Lite build strips away the weight and heat that make a traditional belted harness tiring by mid-morning.

Features

Industry-first titanium D-rings

Titanium alloy D-rings are lighter than aluminum or steel, stronger than aluminum, and corrosion resistant, with 5,000 lb minimum strength at every connection point.

Vented next-gen webbing

High-breathability polyester webbing is three times stronger than traditional webbing, with enhanced UV and abrasion resistance and a vented weave that keeps air moving.

Low-contact gel padding

Patterned gel padding reduces friction, pulls heat away from the body, and promotes airflow so workers stay cooler and drier through a full shift.

Vented Comfort Legs straps

Patented lateral Comfort Legs straps flex naturally with movement, cool the areas where heat builds, and neutralize common pinch points.

Vented waist pad and belt

A rugged, lightweight vented waist pad distributes tool weight efficiently, with larger intake and exhaust ports that keep the core cool.

Tongue buckle leg closures

Grommeted tongue buckle legs adjust precisely with gloves on, and low-profile magnetic keepers secure loose strap ends for a snag-free profile.

Safety first. A full body harness is only one part of a personal fall arrest system. Verify anchorage strength, connector compatibility, and fall clearance before work begins, and never use a harness that has arrested a fall until a competent person removes it from service. When calculating minimum required fall clearance, the FallTech manual adds 1.5 ft for harness stretch and D-ring shift during arrest. For belted and 3D models, connect positioning lanyards only to the paired hip D-rings; the dorsal D-ring is the only fall arrest connection.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.11-2021

Meets the ANSI/ASSP standard for full body harnesses, verified by an independent third-party lab per the declaration of conformity linked below.

OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140

Satisfies OSHA construction and general industry requirements for personal fall arrest system body support.

CSA Z259.10-2018

Declared conforming to the CSA standard for full body harnesses under FallTech declaration BC0204156, accepted on Canadian jobsites.

Applications

Steel erection and rebarConnectors, rodbusters, and form carpenters positioning from the hip D-rings while staying tied off dorsally.
Commercial constructionFraming, concrete, and mechanical crews working at height where fall arrest plus work positioning is required.
Roofing and exterior tradesResidential and commercial roofers connecting to anchors with SRLs or energy absorbing lanyards.
Maintenance and facilitiesPlant and facility technicians performing elevated work on ladders, platforms, and rooftops.
General industryWarehouse, utility, and industrial workers covered by OSHA 1910.140 fall protection rules.
Hot climates and long shiftsCrews in high-heat regions where a vented, lightweight harness keeps workers safer and more compliant.

How to Use

Donning a full body harness takes less than a minute once the straps are adjusted to your body.

  1. Inspect first. Check webbing, stitching, D-rings, and buckles for damage before every use. Remove the harness from service if you find cuts, burns, or deformed hardware.
  2. Don the harness. Hold the dorsal D-ring, shake the harness so the straps fall free, and slip it on like a jacket.
  3. Close and adjust. Connect the chest and leg closures, then adjust the torso so the dorsal D-ring sits between the shoulder blades.
  4. Check the fit. You should be able to slide a flat hand, but not a fist, under the leg straps. Let the magnetic keepers capture the loose strap ends.
  5. Connect and verify. Attach your lanyard or SRL to the dorsal D-ring, and verify anchorage and clearance based on the delivery location of the work. For belted and 3D models, connect positioning lanyards only to the paired hip D-rings; the dorsal D-ring is the only fall arrest connection.

Inspection and Service Life

OSHA requires personal fall protection to be inspected before each use, and ANSI Z359.11 adds a formal inspection by a competent person at least annually. Log formal inspections so the service history follows the harness.

  • Webbing: look for cuts, fraying, abrasion, burns, chemical damage, and UV fading along every strap
  • Stitching: check for pulled, broken, or abraded threads, especially at load-bearing junctions
  • D-rings and hardware: confirm no cracks, sharp edges, corrosion, or distortion, and that buckles engage positively; titanium hardware is inspected to the same criteria as steel
  • Labels: verify the label pack is present and legible, including the date of first use
  • Load indicators: confirm the fall arrest indicator has not deployed

Retire the harness immediately if it has arrested a fall, if any inspection point fails, or if the label is missing or unreadable. Cut the webbing on retired units and destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes does the 8131 come in?
The 8131 is available in 7 sizes: XS, Small, Medium, Large, XL, 2X, 3X. Use the FallTech sizing chart and Comfort Legs Fitment Guide in the submittals section: place the leg straps toward the mid-point of the thighs, seat the sub-pelvic strap below the buttocks, and position the dorsal D-ring between the shoulder blades, confirming fit by adjusting the harness to your body before first use.
What standards does the 8131 meet?
The 8131 complies with ANSI Z359.11-2021, OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140, and CSA Z259.10-2018. The ANSI declaration of conformity (FallTech declaration B0908217a) and the CSA declaration of conformity (declaration BC0204156) are both linked in the submittals section for your safety file.
How much lighter is the FT-One Ultra-Lite than other premium harnesses?
FallTech documents the FT-One Ultra-Lite as 2 pounds lighter than the original FT-One and over 30 percent lighter than other harnesses in its segment. The weight savings come from titanium D-rings, which are lighter than steel or aluminum hardware, and from vented webbing that reduces mass without losing strength. FallTech lists a package weight of 5.5 lb for the 8131.
How many D-rings does the 8131 have and what is each one for?
The 8131 has 3 D-rings: 1 dorsal and 2 hip. The dorsal D-ring is the fall arrest connection point for your lanyard or SRL, and the paired hip D-rings are for work positioning lanyards only, never for fall arrest.
What is the weight capacity of the 8131?
The ANSI user capacity is 130 to 310 lb and the OSHA user capacity is up to 425 lb, including the worker, clothing, and tools. For CSA jurisdictions, the FallTech manual lists a CSA user capacity of 350 lb. Static strength of the harness is 3,600 lb minimum.
What closures does the 8131 use?
It uses tongue buckle legs and a quick-connect chest. Tongue buckles offer grommeted adjustment positions that hold their setting shift after shift, and magnetic keepers secure the loose strap ends.
How often does the 8131 need to be inspected?
OSHA requires an inspection before each use, and ANSI Z359.11 calls for a formal inspection by a competent person at least annually. Retire the harness immediately if it arrests a fall or fails any inspection point, and note that titanium hardware still requires the same inspection for cracks, distortion, and sharp edges as steel or aluminum.
