Malta Hunting Hunt Essentials Packs

CORE Hunt Essentials Pack

The Malta Hunting CORE Hunt Essentials Pack puts everything you need to stay connected from the ground, through the climb, in the stand, and back down into one box. It pairs the essentials-only CORE Tree Stand Harness Kit (harness, tree strap, and suspension relief strap) with the 30 ft Reflective Lifeline and the Malta lineman's climbing strap, the two accessories the Malta manual names for keeping a hunter attached to the tree from the moment the boots leave the ground. It is the most direct way into a complete Malta system: a tested harness of about 2 lb and the two climbing accessories, with nothing you will not use. All five pieces are built by Malta Dynamics, LLC of Malta, Ohio, the same manufacturer behind its industrial fall protection equipment.

The CORE harness is rated for 300 lb and carries the newest test in the line: Intertek report 106588066CRT-001 (May 2026) to ASTM F2337-22, where a 220 lb test torso dropped 64 in feet first was arrested at a maximum arrest force of 1,458 lbf. The lifeline is rated for 300 lb (Malta lifeline manual) on stands up to 25 ft, and in its own Intertek test (report 105348568CRT-001) it arrested a 220 lb weight dropped 3 ft on all three samples. Hang the stand on the lineman's strap, install the lifeline from the platform, and climb on the prusik every hunt after that. Coyote Tan in S-M, L-XL, or 2XL; use the sizing chart to match your height, weight, and waist to a harness size.

The size you pick sets the harness in the pack; the lifeline, lineman's strap, tree strap, and relief strap are the same in every pack. Size bands overlap on purpose. S-M fits roughly 4'10" to 5'8" and 130 to 180 lb with a 22 to 46 in waist. L-XL fits 4'10" to 6'2" and 160 to 240 lb with a 26 to 49 in waist. 2XL fits 5'2" to 6'8" and 190 to 280 lb with a 30 to 52 in waist. The CORE is not offered in 3XL; hunters above the 2XL band should look at the Hunter's Elite or Ultralight Hunt Essentials Pack in 3XL. Measure the waist over the clothing you will hunt in.

Who Needs This Product

The CORE Hunt Essentials Pack is for the hunter who wants the complete, tested Malta system without paying for features beyond what keeps them connected: the hunter hanging a first hang-on stand, the landowner with a ladder stand on a food plot, the camp that wants a full climbing setup on every hook, and the hunter replacing a harness that has aged out or arrested a fall. The Malta harness manual requires you to stay attached to the tree from the moment you leave the ground until you return, and it names two ways to do that on a hang-on or ladder stand: a lineman's climbing strap or a lifeline. This pack includes both, because each covers a different part of the season. The lineman's climbing strap is mandatory any time you install or remove a stand, sticks, or steps, and the manual specifies the Malta strap for Malta harnesses. The lifeline takes over once the stand is hung, so every climb after that is a hands-free slide of the prusik from the base of the tree to the platform. Pick this pack over the bare CORE Tree Stand Harness Kit when you hang your own stands or are buying your first complete setup.

Features

Five pieces, one box

The CORE harness, the 2 in HEA1000 tree strap, the 1 in HEA3000 suspension relief and deer drag strap, the HEA4000 30 ft Reflective Lifeline, and the HEA2000 lineman's climbing strap, plus the Malta harness and lifeline instruction manuals.

Lineman's climbing strap for hanging sets

High-strength polyester webbing, steel carabiners, and a steel adjustment buckle at 1.4 lb. Wrap it around the trunk, clip it to the harness's sewn-in lineman's loops, and adjust the tension as you climb, so both hands are free to set sticks and hang the stand.

30 ft reflective lifeline with prusik

Reflective black and orange rope with a pre-installed six-loop prusik knot, a dual-action twist lock carabiner, and looped termination ends, in steel and polyester at 2.6 lb. It serves stands up to 25 ft and shows up in a headlamp beam before dawn.

The essentials-only CORE harness

About 2 lb with 1 in webbing, breathable shoulder padding, steel pass-through leg buckles with no springs to freeze or clink, a snap-lock waist buckle, and a shock-absorbing tether sewn to the rear neckline with a fall indicator.

Lineman's loops that do double duty

The sewn-in lineman's loops take the lineman's strap on the climb. The CORE has no sub-pelvic strap, so the manual has you clip the suspension relief strap to a lineman's loop after a fall to stand and relieve leg pressure.

Documented component by component

The harness and the lifeline each have their own Intertek test report and Declaration of Conformity, and the straps carry Malta's accessories spec sheet. All ten documents are linked below, so you can read exactly what each piece was tested to.

⚠

Stay connected from the ground up, and stay doubly attached on the lineman's strap. Per the Malta Hunting Safety manuals, you must be attached to the tree from the moment you leave the ground until you return. When you climb on the lineman's climbing strap, keep the tree strap and tether attached to the tree as well; without the tether attached, the harness on a lineman's strap is a climbing aid only, not fall protection. Test the lifeline prusik before every climb and never hold the knot while climbing. Never connect to any part of the stand, climbing sticks, or limbs, and never use a lineman's loop or the relief strap to secure yourself to the tree. The harness is a single-fall product: after any fall, return it to Malta Dynamics for replacement.

Compliance Standards

Harness: ASTM F2337-22

Standard Test Method for Tree Stand Fall Arrest Systems. Intertek (Cortland, New York, ISO 17025 accredited) tested the CORE on May 21, 2026 under report 106588066CRT-001, issued May 28, 2026: feet-first drop of a 220 lb torso from 64 in at 1,458 lbf maximum arrest force, face-first drop, dynamic strength, climbing belt, suspension relief device, and labels all passed. Declaration of Conformity MD1PO365 (May 28, 2026) names HE6100, HE6101, and HE6102.

Harness: climbing belt and relief tests

The CORE report includes two sections beyond the drop tests. In the section 8 climbing belt test, the torso fell twice the adjusted belt length against the test pole, the system did not release, held two minutes, and showed no damage. In the section 9 suspension relief device test, twice the rated capacity, 600 lb, hung from the relief device for two minutes without release.

Lifeline: Intertek 105348568CRT-001

A client-specified test, because ASTM F2337 scopes the harness rather than the rope. In February 2023 Intertek dropped a 220 lb weight 3 ft on the choked lifeline; all three samples arrested it, with reference arrest forces of 2,293, 2,476, and 2,476 lbf and 5 to 6.5 in of prusik slip. A static load of eight times the rated capacity held two minutes. Declaration of Conformity MDL1P0366 records the result. The lineman's strap has no separate test report; Malta documents it on the straps spec sheet.

Labels, retirement, and users

The harness carries the orange ASTM warning label with the year of manufacture, capacity, part number, and size, and the manual sets a five-year service life from purchase. Users must be 16 or older and able to adjust, attach, and recover without help; hunters under 16 must be instructed before each use and accompanied by a supervising adult at all times.

Typical Applications

Hanging hang-on standsLineman's strap on the sewn-in loops and tree strap on the trunk, doubly attached while you set sticks and hang the stand.
Installing the lifelineFrom the platform, choke the looped end above the stand, drop the tail, ride the prusik down, and tie off at the base.
Every climb to a fixed standClip the tether to the prusik carabiner at the base of the tree and slide it ahead of you to the platform and back down.
Ladder standsMalta strongly recommends a lifeline on ladder stands so you are attached from the first rung, not just once the tree strap is set.
Pulling sets after the seasonThe lineman's strap is mandatory when removing stands, sticks, or steps; pull the lifeline too, since it must not stay out from season to season.
Camp and family setupsA complete climbing system for each hunter on the property. The manual requires you to pass along the full instructions and video link with any harness you loan.
Warm early-season sitsBreathable shoulder padding and 1 in webbing for September and October hunts in light clothing.
Buddy standsTwo hunters on one tree each stay connected with the Two-User 30 ft Reflective Lifeline.

How to Use

Read both Malta Hunting Safety manuals, the harness manual and the lifeline manual, and watch the required instructional video before the first climb. The sequence below follows a fixed stand from the day you hang it and does not replace the manuals.

  1. Inspect everything. Check the harness webbing, stitching, buckles, tether, and fall indicator, the tree strap, the relief strap, the lineman's strap and its carabiners, and the lifeline rope, prusik, and carabiner. Do not climb with any component that is damaged, worn, or not working correctly.
  2. Don, buckle, and adjust. Snap the waist buckle closed, listen for the snap, and pull-test it. Thread each steel pass-through leg buckle fully and pull-test it. Snug the waist adjustment bar and leg straps over the clothing you will hunt in, with no strap twisted.
  3. Climb on the lineman's strap to hang the stand. Wrap the lineman's strap around the trunk, clip its carabiners to the sewn-in lineman's loops, and adjust the tension as you climb. Keep the tree strap and tether on the trunk too, moving them up with you, so you stay doubly attached while you set sticks and hang the stand. Keep three points of contact.
  4. Transfer into the stand. Set the tree strap and tether above the stand before you disconnect the lineman's strap, then reattach the lineman's strap above the stand and stay doubly attached while stepping down into the center of the platform. Once secure in the stand, remove the lineman's strap.
  5. Install the lifeline from the platform. Place the looped end of the lifeline around the tree above the stand and pull the rope, prusik, and carabiner through the loop. Drop the tail to the ground, clip the prusik carabiner to your tether, and climb down with the rope slightly taut. On the ground, unclip and tie the slack end near the base of the tree.
  6. Climb connected every hunt. Confirm the prusik has six loops, grip the rope above it, and pull sharply on the carabiner to test it. Clip your tether to the prusik carabiner, slide the knot up ahead of you, and take your hand off it. Never hold the prusik while climbing.
  7. Set up for the sit. Standing on the platform, set the tree strap at or above head level, or slide the prusik above your head, so the tether has no slack when you sit. Keep the suspension relief strap in an easily reached pocket; after a fall, clip it to a lineman's loop, adjust it, and stand in it.
  8. Come down the same way. Slide the prusik down ahead of you to the ground. Carry a phone, whistle, or locator beacon and tell someone where you hunt. Examine the lifeline before every use and never leave it in the woods from one season to the next.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect every component before each use, per the Malta Hunting Safety harness and lifeline manuals. Remove a component from service for any of the following.

  • Webbing and stitching: cuts, frays, burns, chemical or UV damage, broken fibers, or pulled stitches anywhere on the harness, tether, lineman's loops, tree strap, relief strap, or lineman's strap.
  • Hardware: cracked, bent, or corroded buckles, slide bars, or carabiners, a waist buckle that will not snap and lock, a pass-through buckle whose webbing slips under a sharp pull, or a carabiner gate that does not close and lock.
  • Fall indicator and labels: a deployed indicator on the tether, or a tether label with the year of manufacture and capacity that is missing or illegible.
  • Lifeline rope: cuts, frays, glazing, soft spots, weathering, or chewing by squirrels or other animals.
  • Prusik: fewer than six loops around the lifeline, or a knot that fails the pull test; if you have any doubt, do not use it.
  • Age and exposure: remove the harness five years from the date of purchase (or from the manufacture date on the tether label without proof of purchase), and never use a lifeline that stayed in the woods from one season to the next.

Retirement triggers: any fall, a deployed fall indicator, any of the damage above, or the five-year limit. The CORE harness is designed to arrest a single fall only. After a fall, return the harness to Malta Dynamics for replacement by calling 800-494-1840; a nominal fee applies. Never modify, repair, sew, or cut any component. Clean with a damp soapy cloth and store dry, out of direct light, away from heat and chemical vapors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is in the box with the CORE Hunt Essentials Pack?
Five pieces of tree stand fall protection: one CORE full body harness in Coyote Tan in your chosen size, one 2 in wide HEA1000 tree strap, one 1 in HEA3000 suspension relief strap that doubles as a deer drag, one HEA4000 30 ft Reflective Lifeline with a pre-installed prusik knot and a dual-action twist lock carabiner, and one HEA2000 lineman's climbing strap with steel carabiners and a steel adjustment buckle. The pack also includes the Malta Hunting Safety instructions for the harness and the lifeline, with links to the required safety video. Every pack has the same lifeline and straps; only the harness size changes.
Why buy the pack instead of the harness kit and a lifeline separately?
Because the harness kit and a lifeline give you four of the five pieces, and the fifth is the one the manual makes mandatory for hanging stands. The Malta harness manual requires a lineman's climbing strap any time you install or remove a stand, sticks, or steps, and it says to use only the Malta lineman's climbing strap with a Malta harness. We offer the HEA2000 strap as part of the Hunt Essentials Packs, so the pack is how you get the complete Malta system in one order, one box, and one shipment. If you only ever climb a ladder stand someone else has set, the CORE harness kit and a 30 ft Reflective Lifeline may be all you need.
Which harness size should I order, and why is there no 3XL?
The size you choose applies to the harness only; the lifeline and straps are one size. Start with your waist measured over your hunting layers: S-M covers 22 to 46 in, L-XL 26 to 49 in, and 2XL 30 to 52 in. Then confirm against the height and weight chart at the top of the page. As a rule of thumb, S-M fits hunters up to about 5'8" and 180 lb, L-XL runs to about 6'2" and 240 lb, and 2XL covers 5'2" to 6'8" and 190 to 280 lb. The bands overlap on purpose; if you land in two, pick the larger size for heavy late-season clothing and the smaller size for early-season layers. Malta builds the CORE in three sizes only. If you fall in the 3XL band, 5'6" and taller from about 260 lb up, choose the Hunter's Elite or Ultralight Hunt Essentials Pack, both offered in 3XL.
How do the lifeline and the lineman's strap work together?
They cover different trips up the tree. The lineman's climbing strap is for the hang: when you install or remove a stand, sticks, or steps, you wrap it around the trunk, clip it to the sewn-in lineman's loops, and adjust it as you climb so your hands are free, while the tree strap and tether stay on the trunk with you so you are doubly attached. At the stand you set the tree strap above the platform before unclipping the lineman's strap, step in doubly attached, and then remove it. The lifeline is for the hunt: you install it from the platform on that first trip, choking it around the tree above the stand and tying it off at the base, and from then on you clip your tether to the prusik carabiner at the ground and slide the knot up and down with you on every climb. In the stand, the tree strap or the prusik set above your head keeps the tether snug while you sit. On the lineman's strap without the tether attached, the harness is a climbing aid only, not fall protection.
What are the capacities, and how was each piece tested?
The harness and the lifeline were tested separately, and each has its own report. The CORE harness is rated for 300 lb. In Intertek report 106588066CRT-001 (May 2026, ASTM F2337-22), a 220 lb torso dropped 64 in feet first was arrested at a maximum arrest force of 1,458 lbf, the face-first drop passed, the dynamic strength drop left 16.5 in of harness stretch against a 24 in limit, the climbing belt test held two minutes with no damage, and the suspension relief device held 600 lb, twice the rated capacity, for two minutes. The 30 ft lifeline is rated for 300 lb in the Malta lifeline instruction manual. In Intertek report 105348568CRT-001 (February 2023), a 220 lb weight dropped 3 ft on the choked lifeline was arrested on all three samples, and a static load of eight times the rated capacity held for two minutes. The lineman's climbing strap has no separate published test report; Malta documents it on the straps spec sheet. Never exceed 300 lb of hunter, clothing, and gear on this harness.
Why is the stand height limit 25 ft when the lifeline is 30 ft?
The rope has to choke around the tree above the platform, reach the ground, and leave enough tail to tie off at the base so the line stays slightly taut. The choke and the tie-off use several feet between them, so Malta rates the 30 ft lifeline for stands up to 25 ft of platform height. Measure from the ground to the platform before you hang the stand; for anything taller than 25 ft, this lifeline is not the right length.
How do I inspect the pack, and how long does it last?
Inspect every piece before every use. Check the harness webbing, stitching, buckles, tether, and fall indicator; the tree strap, relief strap, and lineman's strap webbing, carabiners, and adjustment buckle; and the lifeline rope for wear, weathering, or animal damage. Confirm the prusik has six loops and passes the pull test. The harness has a maximum service life of five years from the date of purchase (keep your receipt), or five years from the manufacture date on the tether label without proof of purchase, and it is a single-fall product: after any fall, call Malta Dynamics at 800-494-1840 to return it for replacement; a nominal fee applies. The lifeline can stay in the tree for short periods between hunts, but pull it when the season closes and never leave it out from one season to the next. Retire any component with damage.
