Frequently Asked Questions

What is the VTOHG-031-ZE-A personal fall limiter?
The V-TEC PFL, 10', single-leg, 36CS swivel snaphook, ANSI Z359.14-2021, OSHA is a single leg self-retracting device that connects to the harness back D-ring and arrests a fall within inches. It replaces a shock absorbing lanyard and cuts required fall clearance roughly in half.
What does Class 1 mean under ANSI Z359.14?
Class 1 devices anchor at or above the dorsal D-ring with free fall limited to 2 ft. They are not rated for foot-level tie-off or leading edge work; those applications require a Class 2 device.
Do I need single or twin leg?
Single leg is right for work at a fixed position. If your crew moves horizontally between anchor points and must stay 100 percent tied off, choose the twin leg version of this device instead.
What is the capacity of this device?
310400 lb including the worker, clothing, and tools, per the MSA specification.
What standards does it meet?
It is certified to OSHA 1926.502 and OSHA 1910.140; ANSI Z359.14-2021; CSA Z259.2.2-17.
How much fall clearance does a personal fall limiter need?
Far less than a lanyard: because the device arrests within inches, required clearance below the working surface can be as low as a few feet when anchored overhead. Use the fall clearance tables in the MSA instructions and run your exact setup through our free Fall Protection Calculator above.
How often does this PFL need inspection and service?
Inspect before each use (housing, full payout, braking check, connectors, impact indicator) and have a competent person inspect it on a documented schedule per ANSI Z359.14. Remove it from service after any fall arrest or failed check.
