Who Needs This Product

Derrickhands and rig crews working the monkey board and derrick structures. The dorsal extension D-ring keeps the arrest connection reachable during device transitions, the restraint D-ring anchors board restraint lines, and the seat fastening buckles accept a positioning seat for suspended work. Pair it with the 8031 belly belt for pipe positioning.

Features

Derrick D-ring arrangement

A unique arrangement of dorsal, sternal, dorsal extension, and restraint D-rings supports device transition and restraint applications on the rig.

Padded yoke and waist support

The integral padded shoulder yoke, hip-to-seat leg pads, and 5 inch waist support pad provide breathable comfort through long towers.

Seat fastening buckles

Paired seat fastening buckles accept the FallTech 8045 positioning seat for suspended work without a separate rigging step.

Suspension trauma relief included

An integrated adjustable suspension trauma relief system ships on the harness for post-fall suspension safety.

Visual connection indicators

The quick-connect chest buckle features visual indicators showing positive connection before you climb.

9-position tongue buckle legs

Tongue buckle legs are uniquely equipped with 9 grommeted adjustment positions for a wider range of fit.

Safety first. A full body harness is only one part of a personal fall arrest system. Verify anchorage strength, connector compatibility, and fall clearance before work begins, and never use a harness that has arrested a fall until a competent person removes it from service. When calculating minimum required fall clearance, the FallTech manual adds 1.5 ft for harness stretch and D-ring shift during arrest.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.11-2014

Meets the ANSI/ASSP standard for full body harnesses per declaration of conformity B0517115, which lists all six sizes.

OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140

Satisfies OSHA construction and general industry requirements for personal fall arrest system body support.

How to Use

Donning a full body harness takes less than a minute once the straps are adjusted to your body.

  1. Inspect first. Check webbing, stitching, D-rings, and buckles for damage before every use. Remove the harness from service if you find cuts, burns, or deformed hardware.
  2. Don the harness. Hold the dorsal D-ring, shake the harness so the straps fall free, and slip it on like a jacket.
  3. Close and adjust. Connect the chest and leg closures, then adjust the torso so the dorsal D-ring sits between the shoulder blades.
  4. Check the fit. You should be able to slide a flat hand, but not a fist, under the leg straps. Tuck loose strap ends into the keepers.
  5. Connect and verify. Attach your lanyard or SRL to the correct D-ring for the task, and verify anchorage and clearance based on the delivery location of the work.

Inspection and Service Life

OSHA requires personal fall protection to be inspected before each use, and ANSI Z359.11 adds a formal inspection by a competent person at least annually. Log formal inspections so the service history follows the harness.

  • Webbing: look for cuts, fraying, abrasion, burns, chemical damage, and UV fading along every strap
  • Stitching: check for pulled, broken, or abraded threads, especially at load-bearing junctions
  • D-rings and hardware: confirm no cracks, sharp edges, corrosion, or distortion, and that buckles engage positively
  • Labels: verify the label pack is present and legible, including the date of first use
  • Load indicators: confirm the fall arrest indicator has not deployed

Retire the harness immediately if it has arrested a fall, if any inspection point fails, or if the label is missing or unreadable. Cut the webbing on retired units and destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes does the 8021FN come in?
The 8021FN is available in 6 size options: Small, Medium, Large, XL, 2X, and 3X. Use the FallTech harness sizing chart in the submittals section to match chest, waist, and thigh measurements before ordering, and confirm fit by adjusting the harness to your body before first use.
What standards does the 8021FN meet?
The 8021FN complies with ANSI Z359.11-2014 per declaration of conformity B0517115, which lists all six sizes, and meets OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140 requirements for personal fall arrest system body support.
How many D-rings does the 8021FN have and what is each one for?
The 8021FN has 4 D-rings: dorsal for fall arrest, sternal for climbing systems, a dorsal extension that keeps the arrest connection reachable during device transitions, and a restraint D-ring for monkey board restraint lines.
What is the difference between the 8021FN and the 8021?
The 8021FN is the no-seat version of the Roughneck derrick harness. The 8021 includes an integrated 3 inch sling seat with suspension D-rings, while the 8021FN uses paired seat fastening buckles that accept the FallTech 8045 positioning seat when suspended work is needed.
What is the weight capacity of the 8021FN?
The ANSI user capacity is 130 to 310 lb max. and the OSHA user capacity is 130 to 425 lb max., including the worker, clothing, and tools. Static strength of the harness is 3,600 lb min.
How often does the 8021FN need to be inspected?
OSHA requires an inspection before each use, and ANSI Z359.11 calls for a formal inspection by a competent person at least annually. Rig environments are hard on webbing, so watch for chemical and abrasion damage, and retire the harness immediately if it arrests a fall or fails any inspection point.
When should I replace the 8021FN?
FallTech does not impose a fixed shelf life; service life is determined by inspection. Replace the harness after any fall arrest event, when webbing shows cuts, burns, or heavy abrasion, when hardware is damaged, or when the label is no longer legible.
