Who Needs This Product

Utility linemen, substation electricians, and energized-work crews who need fall protection that will not become a conductor or ignition source. Dielectric overmolded hardware and Nomex/Kevlar webbing meet ASTM F887 arc flash requirements while the belted 3D layout supports positioning work with a tool belt.

Features

Dielectric overmolded hardware

Premium dielectric overmolded alloy steel dorsal and hip D-rings with overmolded quick-connect leg and chest buckles and mating buckle belt and torso adjusters.

Nomex and Kevlar webbing

Arc resistant Nomex webbing with a Kevlar fiber core runs throughout the shoulders, torso, belt, and legs.

Arc flash rated padding

Shoulder yoke, sub-pelvic leg, and 6 inch waist support positioning pads feature ripstop and quilted Nomex fabrics for advanced arc flash protection.

Overmolded QC indicators

The overmolded quick-connect buckles feature a visual indicator showing positive connection before you climb.

Lanyard keepers and label cover

Paired lanyard parking keepers and a Nomex label cover keep connections and markings protected on energized sites.

ASTM F887 compliance

Meets ASTM F887 standard specifications for personal climbing equipment in arc flash environments.

Safety first. A full body harness is only one part of a personal fall arrest system. Verify anchorage strength, connector compatibility, and fall clearance before work begins, and never use a harness that has arrested a fall until a competent person removes it from service. When calculating minimum required fall clearance, the FallTech manual adds 1.5 ft for harness stretch and D-ring shift during arrest.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.11-2014

Meets the ANSI/ASSP standard for full body harnesses per declaration of conformity B1215059r.

ASTM F887

Meets ASTM F887 standard specifications for arc flash rated personal climbing equipment.

OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140

Satisfies OSHA construction and general industry requirements for personal fall arrest system body support.

Applications

Utility line workLinemen working energized distribution and transmission systems.
Substation maintenanceElectricians working at height inside energized substations.
Arc flash environmentsAny elevated task inside an arc flash boundary requiring ASTM F887 PPE.
Industrial electrical workPlant electricians on elevated bus, switchgear, and cable tray.
Positioning tradesHip D-rings and belt support positioning work with an arc rated lanyard.
Wind and solar operationsTechs working elevated electrical equipment in renewable generation.

How to Use

Donning a full body harness takes less than a minute once the straps are adjusted to your body.

  1. Inspect first. Check webbing, stitching, D-rings, and buckles for damage before every use. Remove the harness from service if you find cuts, burns, or deformed hardware.
  2. Don the harness. Hold the dorsal D-ring, shake the harness so the straps fall free, and slip it on like a jacket.
  3. Close and adjust. Connect the chest and leg closures, then adjust the torso so the dorsal D-ring sits between the shoulder blades.
  4. Check the fit. You should be able to slide a flat hand, but not a fist, under the leg straps. Tuck loose strap ends into the keepers.
  5. Connect and verify. Attach your lanyard or SRL to the correct D-ring for the task, and verify anchorage and clearance based on the delivery location of the work.

Inspection and Service Life

OSHA requires personal fall protection to be inspected before each use, and ANSI Z359.11 adds a formal inspection by a competent person at least annually. Log formal inspections so the service history follows the harness.

  • Webbing: look for cuts, fraying, abrasion, burns, chemical damage, and UV fading along every strap
  • Stitching: check for pulled, broken, or abraded threads, especially at load-bearing junctions
  • D-rings and hardware: confirm no cracks, sharp edges, corrosion, or distortion, and that buckles engage positively
  • Labels: verify the label pack is present and legible, including the date of first use
  • Load indicators: confirm the fall arrest indicator has not deployed

Retire the harness immediately if it has arrested a fall, if any inspection point fails, or if the label is missing or unreadable. Cut the webbing on retired units and destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes does the 8073QC come in?
The 8073QC is currently offered in Small (SKU 8073QCS). The declaration of conformity covers the 8073QC family in sizes Small through 3X, so ask us about availability of other sizes. Use the FallTech harness sizing chart in the submittals section to confirm your measurements.
What standards does the 8073QC meet?
The 8073QC complies with ANSI Z359.11-2014 and OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140 per declaration of conformity B1215059r, and it meets ASTM F887 standard specifications for arc flash rated personal climbing equipment.
How many D-rings does the 8073QC have and what is each one for?
The 8073QC has 3 D-rings: one dorsal and two hip, all dielectric overmolded alloy steel. The dorsal D-ring is the fall arrest connection point for your lanyard or SRL, and the hip D-rings connect a work positioning lanyard.
What makes the 8073QC arc flash rated?
Arc resistant Nomex webbing with a Kevlar fiber core, dielectric overmolded hardware that eliminates exposed conductive metal, ripstop and quilted Nomex padding, and a Nomex label cover together meet the ASTM F887 requirements for arc flash environments.
What is the weight capacity of the 8073QC?
The ANSI user capacity is 130 to 310 lb max. and the OSHA user capacity is 130 to 425 lb max., including the worker, clothing, and tools. Static strength of the harness is 3,600 lb min.
How often does the 8073QC need to be inspected?
OSHA requires an inspection before each use, and ANSI Z359.11 calls for a formal inspection by a competent person at least annually. Inspect the overmolded coating for cuts, cracking, and burn damage in addition to standard webbing and hardware checks, and retire the harness immediately if it arrests a fall or fails any inspection point.
When should I replace the 8073QC?
FallTech does not impose a fixed shelf life; service life is determined by inspection. Replace the harness after any fall arrest event, after arc exposure, when webbing shows cuts, burns, or heavy abrasion, when the overmold coating is compromised, or when the label is no longer legible.
