Who Needs This Product

This product is a leading edge twin-leg personal self-retracting device (SRL-P) for workers who tie off at or below the D-ring near sharp or leading edges, such as deck and steel work. The SpeedLink system lets your competent person replace a damaged retractable leg in the field instead of retiring the whole device. What is included: the twin-leg SRL-P assembly only; the harness shown in photos is sold separately. You still need a certified full-body harness and rated anchorages.

How to Use

Follow the FallTech instruction manual (MSRD32). The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check both EdgeCore lifelines, retraction, locks, housings, SpeedLink connections, and hooks before each use.
  2. Mount the SRD. Attach the dorsal connector to the harness dorsal D-ring.
  3. Connect the first leg. Attach one steel swivel rebar hook to a rated anchor, at or below the D-ring per the manual's limits.
  4. Alternate legs to move. Connect the second leg to the next anchor before releasing the first, keeping 100 percent tie-off.
  5. Confirm clearance. Verify required fall clearance, setback, and swing-fall with the calculator below.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least annually. Remove the SRD from service for any of the conditions below.

  • EdgeCore lifeline: cuts, broken jacket strands, kinks, burns, chemical damage.
  • Retraction and lock: a lifeline that will not retract or lock on a sharp pull.
  • Energy absorber: a deployed or torn tear-away cover.
  • SpeedLink connection, housing, and hardware: cracks, deformation, or corrosion.
  • Hooks: bent gates, corrosion, or gates that will not lock.
  • Labels: illegible or missing markings.

Remove the SRD from service immediately after any fall-arrest event, and destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does field replaceable mean on this SRL?
The SpeedLink connection lets your competent person swap a damaged retractable leg in the field using replacement part FR84106RP3S, so one damaged leg no longer retires the whole twin-leg device.
Is this SRL CSA certified for Canada?
Yes. It is certified to CSA Z259.2.2-2017 under FallTech CSA Declaration of Conformity DC1011056j, which lists FR84106TP3S and FR84106RP3S, in addition to ANSI Z359.14-2021 certification.
What is the EdgeCore lifeline?
EdgeCore uses Kevlar cable cores inside a UV-resistant composite jacket. It carries a 5,000 lb minimum static strength and stays edge-rated at a fraction of the weight of galvanized steel cable.
Can I tie off at foot level?
Yes, within limits. The Class 2 rating allows tie-off below the D-ring up to five feet, including leading edge exposures, when you follow the manual's edge, setback, and clearance requirements.
What is the capacity?
One worker from 130 to 310 lb for ANSI compliance, and from 130 to 420 lb under OSHA, including clothing, tools, and gear.
Which hooks does it come with?
This configuration ships with steel swivel rebar hooks on both legs, rated at 5,000 lb minimum with 3,600 lb gate strength, sized for rebar and angle steel connections.
How much clearance do I need below the edge?
The maximum arrest distance is 42 inches, and leading edge falls add setback and deflection factors to the Minimum Required Fall Clearance (MRFC). Use the charts inside the energy absorber cover or our Fall Protection Calculator to confirm the total.

Specifying Leading Edge SRLs for Your Crew?

The right leading edge SRL-P depends on the edge type, the setback, the tie-off height, and the fall clearance below. Confirm your application with us and we will help you pick the leg count and configuration.
