Frontline MEGA Swivel Anchors

The Key-Lock Swivel That Started the Family

The STM585K MEGA Swivel incorporates a revolutionary swivel ring design: a D-ring that rotates 360° and flips back and forth through 180°, so the connection point follows the worker instead of side-loading. Its strength comes from heavy gauge heat treated alloy steel, a reinforced bridge, D-ring, and locking caps — and its patent pending key lock design keeps the D-ring seated and locked into the swivel housing, preventing the steel from spreading outward under heavy loads.

Rated at 5,000 lbf (22 kN) tensile strength with a 310 lb maximum user capacity and a 1,000 lb working load, the zinc plated STM585K installs on steel structures with a variety of installation kits to suit the application. It is reusable — the bolt is easily replaced when moving to the next work area — and works in vertical, horizontal, and overhead applications for fall protection, rescue, lifting, hoisting, and tie-back. Meets ANSI Z359.1-2007 and Z359.7-2011, OSHA CFR 1926.502 and 1910.140.

Who Needs This Product

This product is an anchorage connector — the tie-off point of a personal fall protection system. The steel structure it bolts to is the anchorage; the worker wears a full body harness; a lanyard or self-retracting lifeline connects to the swiveling D-ring. Crews that work around their anchor — not just below it — are who the MEGA Swivel was designed for.

Features

360° + 180° articulation

The D-ring rotates a full circle and flips back and forth, keeping the connecting device aligned with the load path.

Patent pending key lock

The key lock design keeps the D-ring seated and locked in its swivel housing, preventing the steel from spreading under heavy loads.

Heat treated alloy steel

Heavy gauge alloy steel with a reinforced bridge, D-ring, and locking caps delivers the MEGA Swivel strength.

Reusable by design

The bolt is easily replaced when moving to the next work area — the anchor relocates with the crew.

Installation kit options

Installs on steel structures with a variety of installation kits to suit the application.

More than fall protection

Rated for rescue applications, lifting, hoisting, and tie-back per the user manual.

StandardsANSI Z359.1-2007, ANSI Z359.7-2011; OSHA CFR 1926.502, CFR 1910.140

Match the installation kit to the structure. The MEGA Swivel carries its rating only when installed on qualifying steel with the correct installation kit and hardware per the user manual. A competent person must verify the structure and the bolted connection before anyone ties off. One worker per anchor, 310 lbs maximum including tools.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.1-2007

Meets the American National Standard safety requirements for personal fall arrest system components.

ANSI Z359.7-2011

Third-party product testing and certification requirements of the Z359 fall protection code.

OSHA CFR 1926.502

Designed to the OSHA construction criteria for fall protection systems and anchorage strength.

OSHA CFR 1910.140

Designed to the OSHA general industry criteria for personal fall protection systems.

Typical Applications

Structural steelBolted tie-off points on columns, beams, and plant steel.
Overhead anchorageOverhead installations where the flip action tracks the worker.
Rescue systemsA rated point for rescue applications per the manual.
Lifting and hoisting1,000 lb working load for material handling per the manual.
Tie-back pointsTemporary tie-back anchorage on steel structures.
Industrial maintenanceRecurring service points that move with the bolt kit.
Steel erectionReusable anchor points that leapfrog with the crew.
Confined space accessA swiveling point above hatches and entries on steel.

Installation Overview

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Verify the steel. A competent person confirms the steel structure can support the loads required by the manual.
  2. Select the kit. Choose the installation kit and hardware the manual specifies for your steel application.
  3. Prepare the mount. Drill the mounting hole at the planned location per the kit instructions.
  4. Bolt the anchor. Install the MEGA Swivel and torque the bolt to the manual specification.
  5. Check the swivel. Confirm the D-ring rotates and flips freely and the key lock keeps it seated in the housing.
  6. Connect and relocate. Attach the lanyard or SRL; when the work moves, replace the bolt and reinstall at the next location.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.

  • D-ring and bridge: deformation, spreading, cracks, nicks, or corrosion.
  • Swivel action: smooth 360° rotation and 180° flip with no binding or grinding.
  • Key lock and caps: D-ring seated and locked in the housing with no excessive play.
  • Bolt and hardware: correct kit hardware, full engagement, correct torque, no thread damage.
  • Markings: product label and rating legible.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest loading, D-ring spreading or deformation, a swivel that binds, key lock damage, corrosion, or any condition where the inspector cannot verify the anchor is fit for service. Replace bolts per the manual rather than reusing questionable hardware.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the rated capacity of the STM585K?
The MEGA Swivel is rated at 5,000 lbf (22 kN) tensile strength with a 310 lb maximum user capacity for fall protection and a 1,000 lb working load for lifting, hoisting, and tie-back — one worker per anchor.
Which standards does this anchor meet?
The STM585K meets ANSI Z359.1-2007 and ANSI Z359.7-2011, and is designed to OSHA CFR 1926.502 construction and CFR 1910.140 general industry fall protection criteria when installed per the user manual.
What does the key lock design do?
The patent pending key lock keeps the D-ring seated and locked into its swivel housing, preventing the steel from spreading outward during heavy loads — the failure mode that limits ordinary swivel rings.
Has the STM585K been lab tested?
Yes. The MEGA Swivel is third-party tested, and the test report is linked in the Submittals section of this page alongside the spec sheet and user manual.
What do I pair with this anchor for a complete system?
A full body harness and a connecting device — a shock-absorbing lanyard or self-retracting lifeline — complete the system. The STM585K supplies the rated anchorage connector; add the installation kit that matches your steel.
How often should it be inspected, and when is it retired?
Inspect the D-ring, swivel, key lock, and bolt before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Retire it after any fall arrest, spreading, binding, or anything that cannot be verified as safe.
What is the difference between fall arrest and fall restraint?
Fall arrest catches a worker after a fall begins; fall restraint keeps the worker from reaching the fall hazard at all. The MEGA Swivel can anchor either system — restraint is preferred when the work allows it because the fall never starts. For a deeper walkthrough with system examples, read our guide: Fall Arrest vs. Fall Restraint. Use the Fall Protection Calculator on this page to size the right system for your job.
