Frontline MEGA Swivel Anchors

Ten Thousand Pounds on a Swivel

The STM10K-SA is the 10K MEGA Swivel anchor head by itself — the swivel-only option for crews that already run weld-on pucks or mounting kits and want another head to move between them. The D-ring rotates 360° and pivots 180° side to side, so the connection follows the worker instead of side-loading. Its strength comes from heavy gauge heat treated alloy steel, a reinforced bridge, D-ring, and locking caps, with a patent pending key lock design that keeps the D-ring seated in its swivel housing and prevents the steel from spreading outward during heavy loads.

Rated up to 10,000 lbs tensile strength — double the 5K MEGA Swivel — with a user capacity of 130 to 310 lbs per ANSI and 130 to 425 lbs per OSHA, the yellow zinc plated head mounts on 5/8 inch hardware such as the Frontline 3 x 1 inch weld-on puck with its 5/8 in threaded hole. With the right installation kit it serves steel and concrete structures for fall protection, rescue, lifting, hoisting, and tie-back.

Who Needs This Product

This product is the anchor head of a MEGA Swivel anchorage connector — the rotating tie-off point of a personal fall protection system. The welded puck or mounting kit on the structure is the interface; the worker wears a full body harness; a lanyard or self-retracting lifeline connects to the swiveling D-ring. Buy the swivel only when the mounts are already on the structure and the crew just needs another head.

Features

10,000 lb rated head

Rated up to 10,000 lbs tensile strength — twice the rating of the 5K MEGA Swivel family.

360° + 180° articulation

The D-ring rotates a full circle and pivots 180° side to side, keeping the connecting device aligned with the load path.

Patent pending key lock

Keeps the D-ring seated and locked into its swivel housing, preventing the steel from spreading during heavy loads.

Heat treated alloy steel

Heavy gauge alloy steel, reinforced bridge, D-ring, and locking caps — with a yellow zinc plated finish.

Swivel-only economics

One structure, many welded pucks, one head that moves between them. This listing is the head.

Permanent or temporary

Supported for permanent and temporary installations on steel with the appropriate mounting kit.

This listing is the swivel head only. The STM10K-SA does not include a weld-on puck, bolt, or mounting kit. It carries its rating only when installed on a qualifying mount with the hardware specified in the user manual, on a structure a competent person has verified for the loads involved. One worker per anchor point.

Compliance Standards

ANSI user capacity

The spec sheet rates the anchor for users from 130 to 310 lbs maximum under ANSI guidance.

OSHA user capacity

The spec sheet rates the anchor for users from 130 to 425 lbs maximum under OSHA guidance.

10,000 lb tensile rating

Rated up to 10,000 lbs tensile strength — twice the 5,000 lb anchorage strength OSHA 1926.502 requires for fall arrest.

Rated D-ring

The zinc plated alloy steel connector D-ring is rated at 10,000 lbs minimum.

Typical Applications

Multi-puck facilitiesOne head services welded pucks across the plant.
Steel structuresBolted or puck-mounted points on structural steel.
Concrete structuresAnchor points with the matching concrete installation kit.
Rescue systemsA high-rated point for rescue applications per the manual.
Lifting and hoistingMaterial handling uses per the user manual.
Tie-back pointsTemporary tie-back anchorage on rated mounts.
Heavy users with toolsOSHA-range capacity up to 425 lbs including tools.
Spare-head programsBackup heads so a damaged swivel never idles a crew.

Installation Overview

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Verify the mount. A competent person confirms the welded puck or mounting kit and its structure per the user manual.
  2. Check the hardware. Use the 5/8 in plated Grade 8 hardware specified by the manual — never substitute unrated bolts.
  3. Thread the head. Mount the STM10K-SA to the puck or kit and torque to the manual specification.
  4. Check the swivel. Confirm the D-ring rotates and pivots freely and the key lock keeps it seated in the housing.
  5. Connect. Attach the lanyard or SRL connector to the D-ring; one worker per anchor point.
  6. Relocate. When work moves, remove the head and reinstall it on the next verified mount.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.

  • D-ring and bridge: deformation, spreading, cracks, nicks, or corrosion.
  • Swivel action: smooth 360° rotation and 180° pivot with no binding or grinding.
  • Key lock and caps: D-ring seated and locked in the housing with no excessive play.
  • Mounting threads and hardware: full engagement, correct torque, no thread damage, correct Grade 8 hardware.
  • Markings: product label and rating legible.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest loading, D-ring spreading or deformation, a swivel that binds, key lock damage, thread damage, corrosion, or any condition where the inspector cannot verify the head is fit for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the rated capacity of the STM10K-SA?
The anchor is rated up to 10,000 lbs tensile strength. User capacity is 130 to 310 lbs maximum per ANSI and 130 to 425 lbs maximum per OSHA — one worker per anchor point.
What do the ANSI and OSHA capacity figures on the spec sheet mean?
The manufacturer publishes two user weight ranges: 130-310 lbs under ANSI guidance and 130-425 lbs under OSHA guidance. Your program and competent person decide which limit governs your jobsite.
Does this include the weld-on puck or bolt?
No — this listing is the swivel head only. The matching 3 x 1 inch weld-on puck with a 5/8 in-11 threaded hole and the 5/8 in Grade 8 hardware are sold separately, which is exactly what makes spare heads economical.
How is the STM10K-SA strength verified?
The MEGA Swivel design is engineered and tested to its published ratings — heat treated alloy steel, a reinforced bridge, and the key lock housing are what carry the 10,000 lb tensile rating. The spec sheet and user manual in Submittals document the ratings and required hardware.
What do I pair with this head for a complete system?
A verified mount on the structure (weld-on puck or installation kit), a full body harness, and a connecting device — a shock-absorbing lanyard or self-retracting lifeline. The STM10K-SA supplies the rotating anchorage connector.
How often should it be inspected, and when is it retired?
Inspect the D-ring, swivel, key lock, and threads before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Retire it after any fall arrest, spreading, binding, or anything that cannot be verified as safe.
What is the difference between fall arrest and fall restraint?
Fall arrest catches a worker after a fall begins; fall restraint keeps the worker from reaching the fall hazard at all. The MEGA Swivel can anchor either system — restraint is preferred when the work allows it because the fall never starts. For a deeper walkthrough with system examples, read our guide: Fall Arrest vs. Fall Restraint. Use the Fall Protection Calculator on this page to size the right system for your job.
