TurboLite+ Personal Fall Limiter, Steel twist-lock carabiner to Steel locking rebar hook

The TurboLite+ is the redesigned PLUS-family personal fall limiter: a quick-activating stainless steel brake, high-impact nylon housing, an integral swivel that keeps the lifeline from twisting, and a visual load indicator that flags an arrested unit at a glance. This MTL-OHW1-02 configuration pairs steel twist-lock carabiner at the unit with a steel locking rebar hook on the lifeline end.

Certified to ANSI Z359.14-2021 Class 1 and rated to 420 lb per OSHA, the TurboLite+ arrests falls in inches instead of feet, cutting required clearance roughly in half versus a 6 ft shock absorbing lanyard. No annual factory recertification is required.

Who Needs This Product

The TurboLite+ single is the everyday PFL for crews that anchor at or above the D-ring: lighter and shorter-arresting than any lanyard, tough enough to ride a harness all season, and inspection-friendly with the visual load indicator. This configuration (Vectran webbing) suits crews matching connectors to their anchor hardware. Twin-leg versions cover 100 percent tie-off, and the Edge-rated LEP series covers leading edge exposure.

Features

Steel twist-lock carabiner + Steel locking rebar hook

This configuration pairs steel twist-lock carabiner at the unit end with a steel locking rebar hook on the lifeline end, matched to the anchors your crew actually uses.

Quick-Activating Brake

The stainless steel braking mechanism engages immediately, arresting the fall in inches and keeping arrest forces low.

Integral Swivel

The built-in swivel keeps the lifeline from twisting as the worker moves, extending web life and keeping payout smooth.

Visual Load Indicator

A deployed indicator means the unit has arrested a fall and comes out of service, visible in a two-second check.

High-Impact Nylon Housing

The housing shrugs off drops, drags, and jobsite abuse that crack lesser shells.

No Annual Recertification

Documented competent person inspections keep the unit in service, with no factory recertification bill.

Anchor at or above the D-ring. This is a Class 1 device: free fall is limited to 2 ft, and foot-level tie-off is not permitted. Check the load indicator before every use and remove the unit from service after any arrest.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.14-2021 Class 1

Certified as a Class 1 self-retracting device: anchor at or above the dorsal D-ring, maximum 2 ft free fall. Class 1 devices are not rated for foot-level tie-off.

OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140

Meets OSHA connecting device requirements for personal fall arrest systems in construction and general industry, rated to 420 lb per OSHA.

CSA Z259.2.2

Listed by the manufacturer as meeting CSA self-retracting device standards for Canadian jobsites.

No Annual Recertification

The PLUS family requires no factory recertification; documented competent person inspections per the manual keep the unit in service.

Typical Applications

General construction with overhead or dorsal-height anchors.
Manufacturing and warehouse work at mezzanines and platforms.
Telecom and wind energy climbing and transfer points.
Roofing work when paired with a compliant anchor at or above the D-ring.
Aerial lift tie-off where the PFL connects to the lift anchor.
Crews replacing 6 ft shock lanyards to cut fall clearance roughly in half.

Setup Overview

  1. Inspect the housing, lifeline, load indicator, and both connectors before use.
  2. Connect the unit to the harness dorsal D-ring or to the anchorage, whichever the configuration is designed for.
  3. Connect the other end to the anchorage connector or dorsal ring and verify both gates lock.
  4. Check retraction: the lifeline should pay out and retract smoothly with no hesitation.
  5. Verify the anchor is at or above the dorsal D-ring and fall clearance is adequate before working.

Full use instructions ship with the unit; the specification sheet is linked in the documentation section below.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect the unit before each use, and have a competent person inspect it on a documented schedule per ANSI Z359.14 and the manual.

  • Housing: cracks, distortion, loose fasteners, or a seized swivel.
  • Lifeline: pay the web out fully and check for cuts, frays, burns, and abrasion.
  • Load indicator: any deployment means immediate removal from service.
  • Connectors: gates close and lock at both ends; no cracks, corrosion, or distortion.
  • Retraction: the lifeline retracts smoothly under light tension with no hesitation.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest event, deployed load indicator, failed retraction or brake check, or any failed inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What connectors does the MTL-OHW1-02 have?
The unit end carries steel twist-lock carabiner and the lifeline end carries a steel locking rebar hook. Miller builds the TurboLite+ in multiple connector configurations so the PFL matches the anchor hardware, not the other way around.
What is the difference between a PFL and a shock absorbing lanyard?
A personal fall limiter arrests a fall in inches instead of feet: the braking mechanism engages immediately, so total fall distance and required clearance drop dramatically compared to a 6 ft lanyard with a deceleration pack. On lower working heights, that difference is the whole ballgame.
What does Class 1 mean under ANSI Z359.14-2021?
Class 1 devices anchor at or above the dorsal D-ring with free fall limited to 2 ft. They are not rated for foot-level tie-off; if you must anchor at foot level, you need a Class 2 device. The 2021 standard replaced the old Class A and B designations.
What is the capacity?
420 lb per OSHA including the worker, clothing, and tools. Under ANSI-based programs, follow the capacity on the device label.
What does the load indicator show?
A visual indicator deploys when the unit has arrested a fall, flagging it for immediate removal from service. Check it before every use.
Does this unit need annual factory recertification?
No. The PLUS family eliminates mandatory factory recertification; keep the unit in service with pre-use checks and documented competent person inspections per the manual.
How often does it need inspection?
Inspect before each use: housing, full lifeline payout, load indicator, retraction, and both connectors. A competent person inspects it on a documented schedule per ANSI Z359.14 and the manual.
