Frequently Asked Questions

What D-ring configuration does this MSA harness have?
It carries back D-ring locations (1 total, steel). The back (dorsal) D-ring is the fall arrest attachment point; additional D-rings support positioning, climbing, or retrieval depending on location.
What buckles does this harness use?
The chest connection is quick-connect style and the leg straps use quick-connect buckles in plated steel. Buckle style affects donning speed: quick-connect is fastest, tongue-buckle gives infinite adjustment, and Qwik-Fit slides to adjust.
Is this harness padded?
No. This is the unpadded configuration, which keeps weight and cost down. If your crew wears a harness all day, consider a shoulder-padded V-FIT or V-FLEX configuration instead.
What standards does this harness meet?
It is certified to ANSI Z359.11; CSA Z259.10; ASTM F887. Full-body harnesses are the only body wear OSHA allows for personal fall arrest, and this model's 400 lb capacity covers the worker plus clothing and tools.
When does an MSA harness expire?
MSA does not impose a mandatory shelf or service life on harnesses; retirement is condition-based. Remove it from service after any fall arrest event or failed inspection. MSA's white paper on harness expiration in the documentation section covers the inspection-based approach in detail.
How do I know what size to order?
Use the MSA harness sizing chart shown in this listing: match your height and weight to the size band. Standard fits most workers; X-Small, X-Large, and Super XL cover the ends of the range. A properly sized harness should let you fit a flat hand, but not a fist, under the leg straps when standing.
How often does this harness need inspection?
Inspect it before each use, and have a competent person perform a documented inspection at least annually per ANSI Z359.11 and the MSA instructions. The RFID tag supports digital inspection logging.

About MSA Safety

MSA Safety is the global leader in the development, manufacture, and supply of safety products that protect people and facility infrastructures. John T. Ryan and George Deike founded the company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1914 on a simple conviction: there had to be a better way to protect workers. More than a century later, MSA is still guided by its founding mission that men and women may work in safety.

MSA's fall protection line brings that century of engineering to working at height: V-FORM and V-FIT full-body harnesses, V-TEC and V-EDGE self-retracting lifelines, V-SHOCK lanyards, and the iconic V-Gard helmets trusted on jobsites worldwide. Every product is designed and tested to meet or exceed OSHA and ANSI Z359 standards. With thousands of products, hundreds of patents, and workers protected in construction, utilities, oil and gas, and general industry across the globe, MSA has earned its reputation as The Safety Company.
