SSRA1 Standing Seam Roof Anchor—The Industry's Most Versatile Non-Penetrating Tie-Off Solution

The SSRA1 Standing Seam Roof Anchor weighs just 4.5 pounds and installs in approximately 2 minutes with a micro-torque wrench.  This device provides 5,000-lb certified fall protection without requiring any panel penetrations. Contractors, solar installers, maintenance crews, building owners, and even DIY homeowners trust the SSRA1 to deliver safe, code-compliant tie-off points while preserving the warranties and watertight integrity of the standing seam roof systems.

SSRA1 Standing Seam Roof Anchor Third-Party Testing

Independent ISO 17025/ANSI Z359.18 testing confirmed the SSRA1 Standing Seam Roof Anchor's unmatched strength and reliability.

While OSHA and ANSI require anchors to withstand 5,000 lbs., the SSRA1 endured an astonishing 14,500 lbs. before the Grade 8 top bolts sheared—leaving the solid aluminum body completely unharmed. This performance not only exceeds industry standards but also surpasses competitors', proving that the SSRA1 is in a league of its own.

▶ SSRA1 Compatibility Overview

This Panel Compatibility Chart is provided only as a reference for what the SSRA1 will physically mount to. It does not determine the structural integrity of any roof system or seam. It is the Qualified Person's responsibility to verify structural suitability in the event of a fall. The SSRA1 fits over 95% of standing seam panels. It is approved only for 22- and 24-gauge steel and is not compatible with aluminum, zinc, copper, or other soft metals. Do not install on curved, tapered, or batten-seam profiles.

▶ Nailstrip Panel Warning

Nailstrip-style panels are approximately 50% compatible. Some seams are too wide at the base, which can allow anchor movement during installation. Treat compatibility lists as guidelines, not guarantees.

▶ Installer Responsibility

The employer and the designated Competent Person are solely responsible for evaluating, determining, and documenting the structural suitability of the supporting structure. The manufacturer assumes no responsibility for structural assessment or performance under load.

▶ Test Fit Recommendation

Perform a test fit with an RCT seam clamp well before installation.

▶ Set-Screw Options
  • Cupped-tip: 22-gauge steel—torque to 90 in-lbs
  • Nylon-tip: 22/24-ga steel—torque to 180–200 in-lbs
▶ Surface Impact

Minor seam dimpling and paint abrasion may occur. Scratches can be touched up with a matching paint pen.

SSRA1 Standing Seam Roof Anchor Patented Non-Penetrating Design

The SSRA1 Standing Seam Roof Anchor features a patented design with a solid 6061-T6 aluminum body secured by 12 stainless steel set screws.

This system provides a rock-solid attachment without damaging the seam. Unlike compression-style anchors that rely on plates to squeeze the seam with high torque, the SSRA1's set screws prevent sliding during impact and deliver consistent holding power at much lower torque settings.

Each SSRA1 comes standard with a 5,000-lb certified D-ring for single-worker tie-off. The universal-fit SSRA1 anchor body adapts to more than 500 standing seam panel profiles—including T-seams, bulb seams, SnapLok, MR-24, single lok, and double lok—without requiring reassembly.

The SSRA1 has a unique removable D-ring, making it compatible with adapter plate components. The SSRA2 Adjustable Roof Jack Adapters mount on top of the SSRA1 to support 10-foot walkboards. Contractors can use the SSRA3 Anchor Plates connected to SSRA1 anchors to create temporary 100-foot horizontal lifeline systems.

SSRA1 Standing Seam Roof Anchor Applications

The SSRA1 Standing Seam Roof Anchor is a versatile solution for many safety applications.

Workers can use it for attaching roof jacks for 10-foot wooden walkboards, self-retracting lifelines (SRLs), horizontal lifelines, and ladder anchoring. Workers using SSRA1 anchors must use inline shock absorbers or shock packs. For 22-gauge panels, both cupped-tip and nylon-tip set screws are available, whereas 24-gauge panels require only nylon-tip set screws.

SSRA1 Cupped Tip Anchor Frequently Asked Questions

Why are cupped-tip set screws preferred for 22-gauge steel roofs?

Cupped-tip set screws provide a mechanical "bite" into the 22-gauge steel seam, offering a high-strength connection that prevents anchor sliding during a fall event. When torqued to 90 in-lbs, these screws deliver the certified 5,000-lb hold required for OSHA and ANSI compliance.

Does the unboxing video above show everything I need for installation?

Yes. As shown in our unboxing video above, the anchor arrives with the solid aluminum body, the forged D-ring, and the cupped-tip set screws. You will only need a calibrated torque wrench and a 3/16" hex bit socket to complete the installation on your roof seams.

Can I use cupped-tip set screws on aluminum or copper seams?

No. Cupped-tip set screws are strictly for steel panels (22-gauge). Soft metals like copper or aluminum cannot withstand the concentrated pressure and will tear, compromising the anchor's hold. For soft metals, we recommend peak-anchoring solutions.

How many times can I reuse the cupped-tip set screws?

Unlike nylon-tipped screws, cupped-tip stainless steel set screws can be reused many times. However, you should inspect the tips for flattening or damaged threads before each installation. If the cup edge is dull or the threads are stripped, replace them immediately to ensure a certified hold.

Is it possible to mount an SRL or a lifeline directly to the SSRA1?

Yes. The SSRA1 is OSHA-certified for impacts in any direction, making it the perfect base for self-retracting lifelines (SRLs). You can also remove the D-ring to install SSRA3 adapter plates for temporary horizontal lifeline setups across multiple anchors.

Will this anchor fit specialized industrial seams like MR-24 or SnapLok?

Yes. The patented universal-fit body of the SSRA1 is engineered to fit over 500 different seam profiles. This includes specialized industrial panels like Butler MR-24, trapezoidal Double-Lok, and various Snap-Lock profiles without requiring any modifications to the anchor.

How do I avoid common SSRA1 installation errors?

To ensure total compliance and roof safety, avoid these three pitfalls:

  • 1. No Impact Drivers: Never use power tools to tighten set screws. You must use a hand-calibrated 1/4" drive torque wrench to avoid stripping the aluminum anchor body threads.
  • 2. Check Seam Gage: Ensure the steel is 22 or 24-gauge. Do not install on thinner metal or soft metals like zinc or aluminum.
  • 3. Tighten to Spec: For cupped tips on 22-ga steel, the required torque is exactly 90 in-lbs. Under-tightening can lead to sliding, while over-tightening can damage the roof panel.

Standing Seam Roof Anchor Adapter Plates

Standing Seam Roof Anchor Full Product Line Introduction

About Standing Seam Roof Anchor

In 2015, the Standing Seam Roof Anchor System began providing specialized fall protection solutions for standing seam roofs. It all started with the SSRA1 seam anchor, designed to lock onto 95% of all standing seam profiles without penetrating the panels or violating warranties. This patented innovation was the first one-piece design in the industry that used six pairs of opposing set screws for seam attachment.

A couple of months later, the SSRA2 Adjustable Roof Jack adapter was released, making walkboards possible on standing seam roofs. The adjustable height side legs stabilize the roof seams and create a stable walkboard surface. After that, we introduced the SSRA3 Anchor Plate, which allows for the deployment of temporary horizontal lifelines on standing seam roofs without penetrations. This comprehensive product line offers unmatched safety and reliability across multiple industries in the U.S. and Canada. All Standing Seam Roof Anchor products are proudly designed and fabricated in the U.S.A.
