Frequently Asked Questions

What is an energy absorber?
A shock-absorbing component that deploys in a fall to keep arrest forces within safe limits, certified to ANSI Z359.13. Staying inside the stated ratings and instructions supports a compliant, well maintained fall protection program. Before every use, confirm the product is compatible with the rest of your fall protection system and that you have adequate fall clearance below the work area.
What configurations are available?
Three models: 6190 (Dee-Loop to captive carabiner), 6192 (Dee-Loop to twist lock carabiner), and 6191-Z (Dee-Loop to integral fall arrester); select at checkout. Make sure the connecting hardware and anchorage suit your application before you attach a lanyard or lifeline. Only trained workers should select, install, and use fall protection equipment for its intended application. Always inspect the product before each use and take it out of service if you notice any damage, deformation, or excessive wear.
What connectors are on the ends?
Every model has a Dee-Loop for the harness attachment; the other end is a captive carabiner, twist lock carabiner, or integral fall arrester depending on the model. Make sure the connecting hardware and anchorage suit your application before you attach a lanyard or lifeline. A qualified person should verify that the installation and the overall system meet the requirements of your specific job site.
How much clearance does it need?
Confirm the required fall clearance for the deployed absorber before use. See the Technical Specifications on this page for the exact materials, dimensions, and ratings. Before every use, confirm the product is compatible with the rest of your fall protection system and that you have adequate fall clearance below the work area.
Is it certified?
Yes, to ANSI Z359.13. Using the product within the limits described on this page helps keep your setup consistent with recognized fall protection practice. Only trained workers should select, install, and use fall protection equipment for its intended application. Always inspect the product before each use and take it out of service if you notice any damage, deformation, or excessive wear.
Do I need a harness?
Yes. You also need a full-body harness and a rated anchor. Pair it only with connectors and equipment that are approved for use together so the complete system performs as designed. For complete protection, pair it with a compatible full body harness, connector, and shock absorbing lanyard or self retracting lifeline.
Can it be used after a fall?
No. Retire any energy absorber that has deployed or arrested a fall. Pair it only with connectors and equipment that are approved for use together so the complete system performs as designed. Store it in a clean, dry place away from heat and chemicals to help preserve its condition between uses.
