FallTech 8' Web Retractor with Snap Hook and Carabiner

The 8262 8 ft Web Retractor is a compact overhead self-retracting lifeline with an 8' polyester web lifeline, a plated alloy steel snap hook, and a standard size captivated steel anchorage carabiner included. A PVC cover guards the internal steel frame, and an integrated steel swivel helps prevent lifeline twisting.

It meets OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.66 regulations for one worker from 130 to 310 lb. The lifeline assembly features a visual fall stitch indicator that shows at a glance whether the unit has arrested a fall. This is a non-leading-edge device for overhead tie-off.

Who Needs This Product

This product is a compact overhead self-retracting lifeline, the connecting component of a personal fall arrest system. A worker anchors the carabiner overhead and connects the snap hook to the harness dorsal D-ring; the web lifeline pays out and retracts with movement and locks to arrest a fall. You still need a certified full-body harness and a rated anchorage.

Features

Complete connection package

The steel snap hook and a standard size captivated steel anchorage carabiner are both included.

Polyester web lifeline

The 8' web lifeline carries a 4,500 lb minimum strength with a visual fall stitch indicator.

Protected steel frame

A PVC cover guards the internal steel frame against jobsite abuse.

Anti-twist swivel

The integrated steel swivel helps prevent lifeline twisting for smooth payout and retraction.

Compact and portable

Simple to install and relocate as the worksite changes require.

OSHA compliant

Meets OSHA 1926.502 construction and 1910.66 general industry requirements.

Overhead SRL for tie-off above the worker. Anchor this retractor overhead; it is not edge-rated, so use a leading-edge SRL when a sharp edge is in the fall path. Arrest distance is one part of your Minimum Required Fall Clearance (MRFC). Confirm required fall clearance and swing-fall with the Fall Protection Calculator below.

Compliance Standards

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502

Federal construction fall protection requirements.

OSHA 1910.66

General industry powered platform fall protection.

Static strength

3,000 lb minimum lifeline assembly.

Connectors

5,000 lb minimum hooks with 3,600 lb gate strength.

How to Use

Follow the FallTech instruction manual (MSRL04). The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the lifeline, fall indicator, retraction, lock, housing, and connectors before each use.
  2. Anchor overhead. Connect the captivated carabiner to a rated anchorage above the worker.
  3. Connect the lifeline. Attach the steel snap hook to the harness dorsal D-ring.
  4. Check the lock. Pull the lifeline sharply to confirm it locks, then let it retract smoothly.
  5. Confirm clearance. Verify required fall clearance and swing-fall with the calculator below.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least annually. Remove the SRD from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Lifeline: cuts, fraying, burns, chemical damage, or a deployed fall stitch indicator.
  • Retraction and lock: a lifeline that will not retract or lock on a sharp pull.
  • Housing and PVC cover: cracks, deformation, or corrosion.
  • Snap hook and carabiner: bent gates, corrosion, or gates that will not lock.
  • Labels: illegible or missing markings.

Remove the SRD from service immediately after any fall-arrest event, and destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What connectors are included?
Both ends ship ready to work: a plated alloy steel snap hook on the lifeline end and a standard size captivated steel anchorage carabiner on the housing end, each rated at 5,000 lb minimum with 3,600 lb gate strength.
What standards does the 8262 meet?
It meets OSHA 1926.502 construction and OSHA 1910.66 general industry fall protection regulations for a user capacity of 130 to 310 lb.
How do I know if the unit has arrested a fall?
The polyester web lifeline assembly features a visual fall stitch indicator. A deployed indicator means the unit arrested a fall and must be removed from service.
Can I tie off at foot level or over an edge?
No. The 8262 is an overhead retractor, not a leading-edge device. Anchor it above the worker and use an edge-rated SRL when a sharp edge is in the fall path.
What is the capacity?
One worker from 130 to 310 lb, including clothing and tools.
How does the 8262 compare with the DuraTech 82710?
The 8262 is the value-priced 8 ft web retractor with fixed connectors and OSHA compliance. The DuraTech 82710 adds ANSI Z359.14 certification, a Dyneema lifeline, 10 ft of working length, and configurable connectors.
How often should it be inspected?
Inspect before each use and have a competent person inspect it at least annually, or more often when your program and the manual require it. Keep records, and retire the unit after any fall-arrest event.
