FallTech C8242Y 6' WeldTech Y-Leg Snap-Hook Lanyard (CSA)

The FallTech C8242Y is a CSA-certified WeldTech energy-absorbing lanyard built for welding and hot-work on the Canadian jobsite. Kevlar leg webbing and a Nomex-covered Softpack energy absorber resist slag, spatter, and burns that would damage standard polyester. In a fall, the Softpack absorber deploys to keep arrest forces within safe limits.

A steel snap hook attaches to the harness and each of the two anchorage legs terminates in a steel snap hook for 100% tie-off. Rated for a worker up to 350 lb combined weight, with a 6 ft maximum free fall. Certified to CSA Z259.11-17 for the Canadian market. Pair it with a CSA-certified full-body harness and a rated anchorage.

Who Needs This Product

This product is a welding-grade energy-absorbing lanyard (EAL), a fall-arrest connecting device built for hot-work. Welders and ironworkers in Canada use the WeldTech C8242Y to tie off where sparks and spatter would burn through a standard lanyard. You still need a CSA-certified full-body harness and a rated anchorage to complete the personal fall-arrest system.

Features

Softpack energy absorber

A compact Softpack absorber with a Nomex cover deploys in a fall to keep arrest forces within CSA limits.

Nomex and Kevlar construction

Kevlar leg webbing and a Nomex cover resist slag, spatter, and burns in hot-work welding.

Spatter and burn resistant

Built for welding where standard polyester webbing would be damaged.

100% tie-off design

Two anchorage legs keep you connected while transferring between anchors during hot-work.

Alloy steel connectors

Self-closing, self-locking alloy steel hooks with 3,600 lb gate strength.

CSA certified

Certified to CSA Z259.11-17 for the Canadian market.

Confirm your fall clearance before every use. This lanyard allows up to 6 ft of free fall and the absorber can deploy up to 4.5 ft, so plan on about 18 ft of clearance below the work surface. Anchor overhead where possible, connect only to a certified full-body harness dorsal D-ring, and run the Fall Protection Calculator below.

Compliance Standards

CSA Z259.11-17

Canadian standard for personal energy absorbers and lanyards (model C8242Y). Certified at the IAS-accredited FallTech lab.

ANSI Z359.13

The WeldTech line is also built to the ANSI energy-absorber standard; this SKU is the CSA-market version.

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502

Federal construction fall protection requirements.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.66

General industry personal fall protection requirements.

How to Use the Lanyard

Follow the FallTech instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the webbing, stitching, energy absorber, and connectors before each use.
  2. Anchor. Connect the anchorage end to a rated anchorage, overhead where possible to limit free fall.
  3. Connect to the harness. Attach the harness end to the dorsal D-ring of a certified full-body harness.
  4. Confirm the connections. Verify every hook gate is fully closed and locked.
  5. Verify clearance. Confirm fall clearance and swing-fall below the work surface, and run the calculator below.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at intervals set by your site and at least annually. Pull the lanyard from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Webbing: cuts, fraying, abrasion, burns, or chemical damage.
  • Energy absorber: any sign of deployment or a damaged cover.
  • Stitching: pulled, cut, or broken threads.
  • Hooks: deformation, corrosion, or gates that fail to close and lock.
  • Labels: illegible or missing markings.

Retire the lanyard immediately after any fall-arrest event, or if any inspection point fails. Destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes WeldTech different?
WeldTech uses Kevlar leg webbing and a Nomex-covered Softpack absorber that resist slag, spatter, and burns from welding and hot-work, where standard polyester webbing would be damaged.
Is this a Canadian-market product?
Yes. This SKU is certified to CSA Z259.11-17 for Canada.
What is the rated capacity?
One worker up to 350 lb combined weight of the user, tools, and clothing.
Do I need a harness with this lanyard?
Yes. An energy-absorbing lanyard is a connecting device only. You need a certified full-body harness and a rated anchorage to complete the personal fall-arrest system.
What is the difference between fall arrest and fall restraint?
Fall arrest catches a worker after a fall happens; fall restraint prevents reaching the hazard first. Use the Fall Protection Calculator below to size the right system.
How often should the lanyard be inspected?
Inspect the webbing, stitching, energy absorber, and hooks before every use, plus a documented competent-person inspection at least annually.
Can it be used after a fall?
No. Remove the lanyard from service immediately after a fall-arrest event and destroy it so it cannot be reused.
