Self-locking and compatible, always. Use this connector only where its size and shape cannot roll out or load the gate against what it connects to. Never connect two snap hooks together, never load the gate, and confirm the keylock or quarter-turn lock is fully engaged before trusting the connection.

How to Use the CAQ117

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the body, gate, and locking mechanism before each use.
  2. Check compatibility. Confirm the connector size and shape suit what it connects to - no roll-out risk.
  3. Connect. Open the gate, make the connection, and let the gate close.
  4. Lock it. Engage and confirm the keylock or quarter-turn lock is fully seated.
  5. Load correctly. Ensure the load runs along the spine, never against the gate.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Visual: deformation, cracks, corrosion, or damaged welds on load-bearing parts.
  • Moving/locking parts: gates, jaws, pins, and locks operate and lock positively.
  • Connection points: D-rings, eyes, and hooks free of wear, elongation, or sharp edges.
  • Fasteners: present, correct, and fully engaged per the manual.
  • Markings: labels must be present and legible.

Retire the equipment immediately after any fall arrest event or if any inspection point fails. Destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "anti-snag" mean?
The keylock nose has no notch to catch webbing or structure, so the carabiner connects and disconnects cleanly.
How does it lock?
Self-closing gate with an automatic keylock, secured by a quarter-turn nut - a deliberate action to open, no accidental rollout.
What is the strength?
5,000 lb minimum breaking strength with 3,600 lb gate face and side strengths per the spec sheet.
Why aluminum?
At 0.22 lbs it is the lightweight option for connections where weight on the harness matters.
How do I know a connector is compatible?
Connectors are compatible when their size and shape will not cause the gate to open and the connection to roll out. Self-locking connectors are required by ANSI Z359 and OSHA. Never connect two snap hooks together, and never load a gate.
What is the difference between fall arrest and fall restraint?
Fall arrest catches a worker after a fall happens; fall restraint prevents the worker from reaching the fall hazard in the first place. For a deeper walkthrough with system examples, read our guide: Fall Arrest vs. Fall Restraint. Use the Fall Protection Calculator below to size the right system for your job.

Building Out Fall Protection Connections?
