CSQ184 Steel Quarter-Turn Locking Carabiner, 5-Pack

The Frontline CSQ184 is the workhorse steel quarter-turn locking carabiner - the same connector that anchors the Frontline web SRLs. Self-closing and automatically locking by a quarter-turn nut, it gives a secure, rated connection at the anchor end of a connecting device.

Forged steel with a 5,000 lb minimum breaking strength and 3,600 lb gate face and side strengths, it is built to ANSI Z359.12 for connecting components and aligns with OSHA 1926 and 1910 - a dependable, economical steel connector for everyday fall protection connections.

Who Needs This Product

This product is a connecting component - the rated link between elements of a personal fall arrest or restraint system. Workers use it to join lanyards, SRLs, anchors, and harness D-rings. It must be self-locking and size-and-shape compatible with what it connects to, and used only as part of a complete system with a full body harness.

Features

The connector on Frontline web SRLs

The same steel carabiner that anchors the SRL line, sold on its own.

Deliberate two-step to open

Self-closes and locks by a quarter-turn nut, so it cannot drift open in use.

Strong at the gate, not just the spine

Rated gate face and side strength resist off-axis loading.

The everyday workhorse

Economical steel for general anchor-end and system connections.

Load it along the spine

Built to carry the rated load down the long axis, never against the gate.

Stock the crew from one pack

The 5-pack covers multiple workers or replacement connectors.

Self-locking and compatible, always. Use this connector only where its size and shape cannot roll out or load the gate against what it connects to. Never connect two snap hooks together, never load the gate, and confirm the keylock or quarter-turn lock is fully engaged before trusting the connection.

How to Use the CSQ184

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the body, gate, and locking mechanism before each use.
  2. Check compatibility. Confirm the connector size and shape suit what it connects to - no roll-out risk.
  3. Connect. Open the gate, make the connection, and let the gate close.
  4. Lock it. Engage and confirm the keylock or quarter-turn lock is fully seated.
  5. Load correctly. Ensure the load runs along the spine, never against the gate.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Visual: deformation, cracks, corrosion, or damaged welds on load-bearing parts.
  • Moving/locking parts: gates, jaws, pins, and locks operate and lock positively.
  • Connection points: D-rings, eyes, and hooks free of wear, elongation, or sharp edges.
  • Fasteners: present, correct, and fully engaged per the manual.
  • Markings: labels must be present and legible.

Retire the equipment immediately after any fall arrest event or if any inspection point fails. Destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Frontline CSQ184 steel carabiner?
The CSQ184 is a forged-steel quarter-turn locking carabiner - the same connector that anchors Frontline web SRLs. It is self-closing and automatically locking, with a 5,000 lb minimum breaking strength and 3,600 lb gate face and side strengths, built to ANSI Z359.12 for connecting components.
How does the quarter-turn lock work?
The gate self-closes when released and locks automatically by a quarter-turn nut, so opening it is a deliberate two-step action. That prevents accidental rollout - the gate cannot drift open on its own during use.
How strong is the CSQ184?
It has a 5,000 lb minimum breaking strength along the spine and 3,600 lb gate face and side strengths, meeting the connector requirements of ANSI Z359.12 for personal fall arrest systems.
Where is the CSQ184 used?
It is the anchor-end connector on Frontline web SRLs and works as a general rated connector throughout a fall protection system - joining lanyards, SRLs, and anchorage connectors. Always load it along the spine, never against the gate.
Steel CSQ184 or aluminum CAQ117 - which should I choose?
The steel CSQ184 is the economical, high-durability workhorse for everyday and anchor-end connections. The aluminum CAQ117 is much lighter for harness-side connections where weight on the worker matters. Both are quarter-turn locking and rated to 5,000 lb.
How do I know a connector is compatible and will not roll out?
Connectors are compatible when their size and shape will not force the gate open or load it. Use only self-locking connectors, never connect snap hook to snap hook or load a gate, and confirm the gate is fully closed and locked, per ANSI Z359 and OSHA.
Is the CSQ184 OSHA compliant?
Yes - it is built to ANSI Z359.12 for connecting components and supports compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and 1910. See the Submittals section for its documentation.
