CSQ120 Large Steel Tower Carabiner Hook, 3-Pack

The Frontline CSQ120 is a large steel tower carabiner hook with a wide 1.97 in gate opening - sized to capture the big structural members, rebar, and rungs that defeat a standard carabiner. Made from 0.55 in round alloy steel bar, it is self-closing and automatically locking by a quarter-turn nut.

The golden yellow / silver passivated finish stands up to tower and structural service, with a 5,000 lb minimum breaking strength and 3,600 lb gate face and side strengths. Built to ANSI Z359.12 for connecting components - the connector for tower climbers and ironworkers.

Who Needs This Product

This product is a connecting component - the rated link between elements of a personal fall arrest or restraint system. Workers use it to join lanyards, SRLs, anchors, and harness D-rings. It must be self-locking and size-and-shape compatible with what it connects to, and used only as part of a complete system with a full body harness.

Self-locking and compatible, always. Use this connector only where its size and shape cannot roll out or load the gate against what it connects to. Never connect two snap hooks together, never load the gate, and confirm the keylock or quarter-turn lock is fully engaged before trusting the connection.

How to Use the CSQ120

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the body, gate, and locking mechanism before each use.
  2. Check compatibility. Confirm the connector size and shape suit what it connects to - no roll-out risk.
  3. Connect. Open the gate, make the connection, and let the gate close.
  4. Lock it. Engage and confirm the keylock or quarter-turn lock is fully seated.
  5. Load correctly. Ensure the load runs along the spine, never against the gate.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Visual: deformation, cracks, corrosion, or damaged welds on load-bearing parts.
  • Moving/locking parts: gates, jaws, pins, and locks operate and lock positively.
  • Connection points: D-rings, eyes, and hooks free of wear, elongation, or sharp edges.
  • Fasteners: present, correct, and fully engaged per the manual.
  • Markings: labels must be present and legible.

Retire the equipment immediately after any fall arrest event or if any inspection point fails. Destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Frontline CSQ120 tower carabiner hook?
The CSQ120 is a large steel tower carabiner hook with a wide 1.97 in gate opening, made from 0.55 in round alloy steel bar. It is self-closing and automatically locking by a quarter-turn nut, weighs about 1.65 lb, and carries a 5,000 lb minimum breaking strength with 3,600 lb gate face and side strengths, built to ANSI Z359.12.
Why does the CSQ120 have such a large gate?
The 1.97 in gate captures the big structural members, rebar, and ladder rungs that a standard carabiner cannot fit around. That makes it the connector of choice when you must tie off directly to large structure on towers and steel.
How does the CSQ120 lock?
The gate self-closes when released and locks automatically by a quarter-turn nut, so it takes a deliberate action to open and cannot roll out on its own. Always confirm the gate is fully closed and locked around the member before trusting it.
How strong is it and how much does it weigh?
It has a 5,000 lb minimum breaking strength and 3,600 lb gate face and side strengths, at about 1.65 lb. The galvanized golden-yellow / silver passivated finish is built for tower and structural service.
Who is the CSQ120 for?
It is built for tower climbers and ironworkers who connect to large structural members, rebar, and rungs that defeat a standard carabiner. Use it where you need a rated connector with a wide capture opening.
How do I know the connection is safe and will not roll out?
The hook must fully close and lock around the member, with size and shape that will not load or force the gate open. Never load the gate, and confirm the quarter-turn lock is fully engaged before use, per ANSI Z359 and OSHA.
Is the CSQ120 OSHA compliant?
Yes - it is built to ANSI Z359.12 for connecting components and supports compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and 1910. See the Submittals section for its documentation.
