115 ft Confined Space Personnel and Material Winch (R0007)
The Malta Dynamics confined space winch is built for personnel riding, material handling, rescue, and evacuation. It carries 115 feet of galvanized steel cable rated for a worker load of 130 to 310 lb, and it raises, lowers, and locks a worker or load in place at a confined space opening.
The winch mounts to the Malta Dynamics Groundhog tripod and works with the 3-way recovery self-retracting lifeline bracket. Once installed, the cable feeds through the head of the tripod and rides on the built-in pulley wheel. A personal fall arrest system is then attached and used in conjunction with the winch so the crew has both controlled hoisting and backup fall protection.

Who Needs This Product
The winch is the hoisting device for confined space entry and rescue - it raises and lowers a worker or material through a manhole, tank, or vault opening from the head of the rescue tripod. It is not a standalone fall protection device; it works with the Malta Dynamics tripod and the 3-way recovery SRL bracket, and each entrant still wears a full body harness connected to a personal fall arrest system. Crews running permit-required confined space entries use it for controlled descent, retrieval, and emergency evacuation.
Features
115 ft steel cable
A 115-foot galvanized steel cable reaches deep openings while resisting corrosion in wet confined space conditions.
Raise, lower, and lock
The winch gives controlled hoisting in both directions and locks the worker or load in place at any point.
Personnel and material
Rated for personnel riding, material handling, rescue, and evacuation at the same confined space opening.
Tripod mount
Mounts to the Malta Dynamics Groundhog tripod, with the cable feeding through the head on the built-in pulley wheel.
Works with the SRL bracket
Compatible with the 3-way recovery self-retracting lifeline bracket for a complete retrieval setup.
130 to 310 lb capacity
Supports a worker load of 130 to 310 lb, including tools and equipment carried during entry.

The winch hoists - the harness protects. A confined space rescue plan, trained attendant, and atmospheric testing are required before entry under OSHA 1910.146. Always use the winch with a personal fall arrest system as backup fall protection, mount it to a rated tripod, inspect the cable and brake before each use, and never exceed the rated worker capacity.
Compliance Standards
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146
Permit-required confined spaces, including retrieval systems for raising and lowering entrants.
OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart AA
Confined spaces in construction, covering rescue and retrieval equipment requirements.
ANSI Z117.1
Safety requirements for entering, exiting, and working in confined spaces, including mechanical retrieval.
ANSI Z359 Fall Protection Code
The harness and personal fall arrest system used with the winch complete an ANSI-rated retrieval system.
Typical Applications
Setup Overview
Set up per the Malta Dynamics user instructions. The sequence below is an overview only.
- Inspect. Check the cable, drum, brake, and handle for damage and full function before each use.
- Mount. Attach the winch to the Malta Dynamics tripod at the mounting point shown in the manual.
- Route the cable. Feed the cable through the head of the tripod and onto the built-in pulley wheel.
- Connect. Attach the worker's personal fall arrest system and the winch line per the rescue plan.
- Test. Confirm the raise, lower, and lock functions before loading the entrant.
- Operate. Raise or lower within the rated capacity, keeping the backup fall arrest system attached throughout.
Inspection and Retirement
Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection on the schedule in the manual. Remove the winch from service for any of the conditions below.
- Cable: kinks, broken wires, birdcaging, corrosion, or flat spots.
- Brake and lock: failure to hold the load securely at any position.
- Drum and gears: binding, slipping, or unusual noise under load.
- Handle and housing: cracks, bending, or missing fasteners.
- Labels: must remain legible and intact.
Retirement triggers: any rescue or fall loading event, any brake that fails to hold, or any cable damage - remove the winch from service and replace per the manual.
