123N Compact Single D-Ring Body Belt

The Miller 123N is the minimalist positioning belt: 1-3/4 inch high-strength webbing, a single back D-ring, and a low-profile cut that stays out of the way under a tool rig. For restraint lines and light positioning work, it is the simplest compliant option Miller makes.

Made in the United States and TAA compliant, the 123N serves work positioning and restraint applications. Body belts are not fall arrest equipment; pair the belt with an independent fall arrest system where a fall hazard exists.

Who Needs This Product

The 123N suits workers who need a restraint or positioning attachment without wearing a full harness: aerial lift restraint where the rules allow it, light positioning tasks, and restraint lines that keep a worker away from an edge. Anyone exposed to an actual fall hazard needs a full body harness; the Titan II and H500 lines start under a quarter of premium harness prices.

Features

Single Back D-Ring

One forged D-ring at the back center provides the restraint or positioning attachment point.

1-3/4 Inch Webbing

High-strength webbing balances capacity with a compact, low-profile wear.

Tongue Buckle Closure

A belt-style tongue buckle with grommets gives a positive, indexed fit adjustment.

Lightweight Build

No pads or extra hardware, so the belt disappears under a tool rig.

Made in the USA

Built in the United States and TAA compliant for federal purchasing.

Six Vendor Sizes

Made in S through 3XL; the Medium is stocked and other sizes are available on request.

Compliance Standards

OSHA 1926.502(e)

Approved for work positioning device systems rigged to limit free fall to 2 ft. OSHA has prohibited body belts for fall arrest since 1998.

ANSI A10.32

Body belts serve positioning and restraint under ANSI construction fall protection practice, never fall arrest.

TAA Compliant

Listed as TAA compliant by the manufacturer, allowing purchase on federal projects that require Trade Agreements Act sourcing.

Typical Applications

Restraint lines that keep workers away from unprotected edges.
Aerial and scissor lift restraint where regulations permit belt restraint.
Light positioning tasks with free fall limited to 2 ft.
Utility and municipal work specifying American-made equipment.
Tool-belt-compatible restraint for workers who cannot wear a full harness rig.
Backup restraint attachment alongside a full fall arrest system.

Fitting Overview

  1. Thread the belt through tool rig loops if used, keeping the D-ring centered at the back.
  2. Position the belt at the natural waist, above the hip bones.
  3. Set the tongue buckle so the belt is snug but allows a flat hand between belt and body.
  4. Connect the restraint or positioning lanyard to the D-ring and verify the gate is locked.
  5. Confirm the rigging limits free fall to 2 ft before loading the system.

Use limitations and care instructions are in the Miller I119 manual linked below.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect the belt before each use, and have a competent person other than the user formally inspect it at least annually. Record the results on the inspection form linked in the documentation section.

  • Webbing: cuts, frays, burns, chemical damage, UV fading, or broken stitching.
  • D-rings: cracks, corrosion, distortion, or sharp edges.
  • Buckle and grommets: bent tongues, elongated holes, or loose grommets.
  • Pad (if fitted): torn stitching or compressed, hardened padding.

Retirement triggers: any loading event, any defect found during inspection, or any condition where the inspector cannot positively verify the belt is fit for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the 123N for fall arrest?
No. OSHA has prohibited body belts for personal fall arrest since 1998. The 123N is approved for work positioning and restraint only; wherever a fall hazard exists, wear a full body harness with an independent arrest system.
What is the difference between restraint and positioning?
Restraint keeps the worker from reaching the fall hazard at all, like a leash short of the edge. Positioning holds a worker in place against a structure while both hands work, rigged so any free fall is limited to 2 ft.
What size is stocked?
The Medium ships from stock. Miller makes the 123N in S through 3XL; contact us for other sizes.
What lanyard should I pair with it?
For restraint, a fixed or adjustable restraint lanyard sized so the worker cannot reach the edge. For positioning, a positioning lanyard rated for the task. Neither replaces fall arrest where a hazard exists.
Is the 123N made in the USA?
Yes. The manufacturer lists the country of origin as the United States, and the belt is TAA compliant for federal purchasing.
How is the 2NA different?
The Miller 2NA adds a second D-ring and a 3 inch back pad, putting a positioning ring at each hip for pole-style positioning work. The 123N is the lighter single-ring version.
How often does the belt need to be inspected?
Inspect it before each use and have a competent person inspect it at least annually. Retire the belt after any loading event or failed inspection.
