Titan II Contractor Harness with Integrated Padding

The Miller T4577 Titan II Contractor is the padded, all-day version of the Titan II: integrated back and shoulder pads with strategic airflow, lumbar support, a body belt, and side D-rings for positioning, all on the same non-stretch hi-viz webbing platform. It is built for the worker who wears a harness from the first break to the last load.

Certified to ANSI Z359.11 and compliant with OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140, the T4577 supports a 420 lb maximum working load including clothing and tools. The Universal (L/XL) size fits the majority of workers.

S/M fits workers up to 5 ft 10 in and 170 lb, or up to 190 lb at 5 ft 6 in and under. Universal (L/XL) covers the broad middle and is the most popular size. XXL/XXXL fits workers over 6 ft who weigh over 270 lb, and any worker from 350 to 400 lb. Lighter boundary bands are overlap zones where either size fits: size down for a trim fit or up for room over layers. Some Miller spec sheets list these as Size 1 (S/M), Size 2 Universal (L/XL), and Size 3 (2XL and 3XL). Based on the manufacturer's published Miller sizing chart; verify fit per the user manual before first use.

Who Needs This Product

The T4577 is for contractors and full-time at-height trades that wear a harness all day, every day. The lighter, strategically placed padding provides optimal airflow instead of trapping heat, the lumbar pad supports the lower back under tool load, and the belt keeps tool bags positioned. Occasional users can save with the unpadded T4500, and workers who only need positioning rings without padding should look at the T4507.

Features

Integrated Back and Shoulder Pads

Lighter, strategically placed padding cushions the harness under all-day wear while letting air move, reducing fatigue without the bulk.

Lumbar Support and Belt

The lumbar pad and integrated belt carry tool weight on the hips and keep bags positioned where the worker expects them.

Side D-Rings

Hip-level positioning D-rings accept a positioning lanyard for hands-free work at a fixed location.

Sliding Back D-Ring

The dorsal D-ring self-centers between the shoulder blades for the fall arrest connection.

Hi-Viz Orange Webbing

High-visibility non-stretch polyester keeps workers conspicuous and holds its adjusted fit through the shift.

Five Points of Adjustment

Adjustment at the chest, both shoulders, and both legs provides each worker with a custom fit.

Padding is comfort, not protection. The pads and belt do not change the fall arrest rules: connect fall arrest to the back D-ring, use the side D-rings for positioning only, and retire the harness immediately after any fall arrest event.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.11

Certified to the ANSI/ASSE Z359.11 standard for full body harnesses, covering design, testing, and marking requirements.

OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140

Meets OSHA requirements for personal fall arrest system body wear in both construction and general industry.

OSHA 1926.502(e)

The side D-rings support work positioning systems rigged to limit free fall to 2 ft, as OSHA requires for positioning device systems.

TAA Compliant

Listed as TAA compliant by the manufacturer, allowing purchase on federal projects that require Trade Agreements Act sourcing.

Typical Applications

Full-time construction trades that wear a harness for the entire shift.
Rebar, formwork, and steel connections using the positioning D-rings.
Framing and exterior work where tool bags ride on the integrated belt.
Roofing work when paired with a compliant anchor and connecting device.
Industrial maintenance teams upgrading from unpadded compliance harnesses.
Crews standardizing on the Titan II line from entry level to contractor grade.

Donning Overview

  1. Hold the harness by the back D-ring and shake it out so the straps hang free without twists.
  2. Slip the shoulder straps on like a vest, keeping the webbing flat against the body.
  3. Connect the chest buckle and position the chest strap across the middle of the chest.
  4. Fasten each leg buckle so the strap allows a flat hand between the strap and the leg, but not a fist.
  5. Work through all five adjustment points until the dorsal D-ring rests between the shoulder blades, then stow the strap ends.

Full donning and adjustment instructions are in the Miller harness manual linked in the documentation section below.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect this harness before each use, and have a competent person other than the user formally inspect it at least annually per ANSI Z359.2. Check each point below and record the results on the inspection form linked in the documentation section.

  • Webbing: cuts, frays, burns, chemical damage, UV fading, or broken stitching anywhere on the harness.
  • Hardware: D-rings and buckles for cracks, corrosion, distortion, or sharp edges.
  • Adjusters and keepers: slippage, missing keepers, or strap ends that will not stay stowed.
  • Labels: present and legible, including the size, standards, and serial information.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest event, any webbing or hardware defect found during inspection, or any condition where the inspector cannot positively verify the harness is fit for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the T4577 and the T4500?
The T4577 adds integrated back and shoulder padding, lumbar support, a body belt, and side positioning D-rings to the same non-stretch hi-viz Titan II platform. The T4500 is the unpadded, back-D-ring-only version for crews that need certified fall arrest at the lowest cost.
Does the padding make the harness hot?
Miller places lighter pads strategically so air can move between the pad sections. The design goal is all-day comfort with optimal airflow rather than a solid pad that traps heat against the back.
What size is the T4577/UAK?
This is the Universal (L/XL) size, which fits the majority of workers. The contractor model is also made in S/M, 2XL, and 3XL; contact us if you need a size that is not shown.
What is the maximum working load?
The T4577 is rated for a 420 lb maximum working load, which includes the worker plus all clothing, tools, and equipment carried.
Can I hang tool bags on the belt?
Yes. The integrated belt with lumbar support is designed to carry tool bags and keep them positioned. The belt is not a fall arrest or positioning attachment; use the side D-rings for positioning connections.
Is the T4577 OSHA compliant?
Yes. It is certified to ANSI Z359.11 and meets OSHA 1926.502 for construction and OSHA 1910.140 for general industry when used as part of a complete personal fall arrest system.
How often does the harness need to be inspected?
Inspect it before each use, and have a competent person inspect it at least annually per ANSI Z359.2, including the stitching behind the pads. Retire the harness after any fall arrest event or any failed inspection.
