CTR Class 1 Cable SRL, 20 to 60 ft Galvanized

The FallTech CTR Class 1 SRL pairs a glass-reinforced nylon housing with a 3/16 in galvanized steel wire rope lifeline rated to 3,600 lb minimum static strength, available in 20, 30, and 60 ft lengths with a steel swivel snap hook. The distinct green housing identifies the device as ANSI Class 1 compliant for overhead anchorage work.

It is the first SRL in its class with an Armored EA shock pack: a low-profile hard shell that protects the energy absorber from moisture, abrasion, and jobsite wear better than soft-pack designs. Certified to ANSI Z359.14-2021 and CSA Z259.2.2-2017 per the declarations of conformity linked below.

Who Needs This Product

Crews that anchor overhead and want a cable SRL that survives jobsite abuse. Class 1 devices tie off at or above the dorsal D-ring with a maximum 2 ft free fall, which covers most general construction, maintenance, and industrial work from lifts, platforms, and overhead beam anchors. The CTR line is FallTech's value-priced answer for that work, and the armored energy absorber addresses the most common reason cable SRLs leave service early: a torn or contaminated soft shock pack.

Features

Armored EA shock pack

A first-in-class hard composite shell protects the energy absorber from weather, abrasion, and jobsite abuse, preserving the labels and keeping the device compliant and in service longer.

Green Class 1 housing

The distinct green glass-reinforced nylon housing identifies ANSI Class 1 compliance at a glance, so competent persons can verify the right device is on the right anchorage.

Steel-reinforced carry handle

A high-strength composite fabric handle reinforced with steel wires stands up to repeated daily transport and staging.

Optimized movement

An enhanced internal mechanism reduces nuisance lockups and is tuned for natural working and walking speeds, so the lifeline pays out and retracts with you.

Galvanized steel lifeline

The 3/16 in galvanized wire rope resists wear and holds 3,600 lb minimum static strength across all three lengths.

Steel swivel snap hook

The leg-end swivel snap hook keeps the lifeline from twisting as you work and connects positively to the harness dorsal D-ring or anchorage per your setup.

Safety first. The CTR Class 1 is rated for overhead anchorage only, with a maximum free fall of 2 ft. It is not rated for leading edge exposure: if the lifeline could contact an edge in a fall, or you must anchor at foot level, use a Class 2 leading edge SRL like the CTR Class 2 LE instead. When calculating clearance, use the fall clearance guidance in the instruction manual.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.14-2021

Certified as a Class 1 SRL per the declarations of conformity, with arrest distance under 42 in and average arrest force of 1,350 lb or less.

OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.66

Satisfies OSHA requirements for personal fall arrest system connecting devices in construction and general industry.

CSA Z259.2.2-2017

Certified to the Canadian standard for self-retracting devices, accepted on Canadian jobsites.

ANSI/ISEA 125-2014 Level 2

Conformity assessed within the scope of ISO/IEC 17025:2005 at the FallTech lab.

Applications

Overhead beam anchorageSteel erection and industrial work anchored to overhead beam clamps and trolleys.
Aerial lifts and platformsBoom lift and scissor lift work where the anchor point sits at or above the D-ring.
General constructionFraming, mechanical, and finishing trades tying off overhead across 20 to 60 ft working areas.
Ladder and tank workExtended vertical access where the 60 ft length keeps one device covering the full climb path.
Maintenance and facilitiesPlant technicians who stage and carry the SRL daily and need hardware that survives the truck box.
Canadian jobsitesCSA Z259.2.2 certification covers crews working under Canadian fall protection regulation.

How to Use

A Class 1 SRL installs overhead and follows the worker, locking automatically when a fall begins.

  1. Inspect first. Check the housing, lifeline, hook, and the fall and load indicators per the instruction manual before every use.
  2. Anchor overhead. Connect the anchorage carabiner to an anchor at or above the dorsal D-ring rated per OSHA requirements.
  3. Connect the snap hook. Attach the swivel snap hook to the harness dorsal D-ring and confirm the gate is fully closed and locked.
  4. Check retraction. Pull out a short length of lifeline and let it retract under control; it should pay out and retract smoothly without slack.
  5. Work within the system. Keep free fall under 2 ft, avoid swing fall hazards, and verify clearance using the manual's fall clearance guidance based on the delivery location of the anchor point.

Inspection and Service Life

OSHA requires inspection before each use, and ANSI Z359.14-2021 adds formal inspection by a competent person at intervals set by the manufacturer. Log formal inspections so the service history follows the device.

  • Housing: check the glass-reinforced nylon shell and carrying handle for cracks, deformation, and missing fasteners
  • Lifeline: extend the full working length and check the galvanized cable for kinks, birdcaging, broken wires, and corrosion
  • Energy absorber: verify the armored shock pack shell is intact and the fall indicator has not deployed
  • Hooks: confirm the swivel snap hook and anchorage carabiner gates close, lock, and swivel freely
  • Labels: verify all labels are present and legible, including the fall clearance table

Remove the device from service immediately if it has arrested a fall, if the load indicator shows deployment, or if any inspection point fails, and destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Class 1 mean on the CTR SRL?
Class 1 devices under ANSI Z359.14-2021 are rated for overhead anchorage only, with a maximum free fall of 2 ft. The CTR's green housing identifies that rating at a glance. If you need to anchor at foot level or the lifeline could load over an edge, step up to the CTR Class 2 Leading Edge version.
What lengths does the CTR Class 1 come in?
Three lengths: 20 ft (723720), 30 ft (723730), and 60 ft (723760), all with the same 3/16 in galvanized steel lifeline and steel swivel snap hook. FallTech has announced an 80 ft version, and we will add it when it ships.
What is the Armored EA shock pack?
It is a hard composite shell around the energy absorber, a first for this class of SRL. Soft-pack absorbers are a common failure point because tears and moisture retire the device early; the armored shell resists abrasion and weather and protects the compliance labels.
What standards does the CTR Class 1 meet?
ANSI Z359.14-2021 as a Class 1 SRL and CSA Z259.2.2-2017, documented in the declarations of conformity linked below (one pair covers the 20 and 30 ft, a second pair covers the 60 ft). It satisfies OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.66 requirements for fall arrest connecting devices.
What is the user capacity?
130 to 310 lb including clothing and tools per ANSI Z359.14-2021. Test performance requires an average arrest force of 1,350 lb or less and an arrest distance under 42 in.
How much clearance do I need below the work surface?
Less than a lanyard needs: the arrest distance is under 42 in from an overhead anchor. Use the fall clearance table on the device label and in the instruction manual, and add swing fall allowance if you work away from the anchor line. Our free fall clearance calculator below walks through the full calculation.
How often does the CTR need inspection?
Before each use by the worker, plus formal inspection by a competent person on the schedule in the MSRD47 instruction manual. Remove it from service immediately after any fall arrest event or failed inspection point.
