Who Needs This Product

Workers at height connect to the system through their lanyard, which makes it the most personal piece of fall protection they own. FallTech's energy absorbing lanyards pair a rated connecting length with an integrated absorber that limits arrest forces on the body, in single-leg versions for fixed work and Y-leg versions for 100 percent tie-off while moving. Match the webbing family, hooks, and free fall rating to the trade and the anchor.

Meets OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.66 Regulations.

Clearance decides whether the lanyard can save you. A 6 ft energy absorbing lanyard needs roughly 18.5 ft of clearance below the anchor after deployment and body length. If you do not have it, use an SRL. Run the calculator below before the first tie-off.

Typical Applications

General constructionEveryday 6 ft fall arrest connections.
Steel and rebar workRebar hook versions clip directly to bar and angle.
Moving workY-leg versions keep 100 percent tie-off between anchors.
Welding and hot workWeldTech and Kevlar families resist sparks and slag.
Energized environmentsArc flash rated versions with dielectric hardware.
Leading edge deckingCable versions rated for sharp-edge exposure.

How to Use

Follow the FallTech instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Connect to the harness. Snap hook, loop, or dorsal connector attaches at the dorsal D-ring per the manual.
  2. Connect to the anchor. Hook the anchor end to a rated anchorage at or above the D-ring unless the lanyard is rated for higher free fall.
  3. Alternate Y-legs. On twin-leg versions, connect the next anchor before releasing the last for continuous protection.
  4. Mind the free fall. Standard lanyards are rated 6 ft free fall; Ironman versions extend that to 12 ft. Never exceed the rating.
  5. Verify clearance. Total fall distance is lanyard length plus deployment plus body length; run the calculator below.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent person inspection at least annually.

  • Webbing: cuts, burns, fraying, UV chalking, chemical damage.
  • Stitching: broken or pulled threads at terminations.
  • Energy absorber: cover intact, no deployment evidence.
  • Hooks: gates close and lock under spring tension; no deformation or corrosion.
  • Labels: legible, with the lanyard in your inspection log.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest event, a deployed absorber, damaged webbing or hooks, or a failed inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the capacity of this lanyard?
The rated capacity covers a worker from 130 to 310 lb under ANSI, with higher OSHA-only capacity where the label allows, including clothing and tools. Check the spec table and the DoC linked below.
Which connector configuration should I choose?
Snap hooks fit D-rings and rated anchor points, rebar hooks open wide enough for bar and angle iron, loops choke to the harness, and aluminum versions cut carried weight. Every combination in the option list is a factory configuration with its own DoC.
How much fall clearance do I need?
Total fall distance is the lanyard length plus up to 4 ft of absorber deployment plus body length below the D-ring and a safety factor, roughly 18.5 ft for a 6 ft lanyard anchored at the dorsal ring. The calculator on this page runs your exact numbers.
Single-leg or Y-leg?
Single-leg is for work at one anchor. Y-leg keeps you connected while moving: hook the next anchor before releasing the last, so protection never lapses.
What standard does it meet?
ANSI Z359.13 for energy absorbing lanyards and OSHA 1926.502. The declaration of conformity in the submittals section documents the certification for your safety file.
