Who Needs This Product

This product is a davit base module - the mounting foundation that receives the DAC confined space davit arm and positions the boom over an opening. Confined space teams choose the base type to match the structure they are anchoring to. It is the base only; the davit arm, retrieval system, harness, and rescue plan complete the system.

StandardsOSHA 1910.146; ANSI Z359; OSHA 1926

The base is one part of the system. A davit base alone does nothing - it receives the DAC davit arm, which carries the retrieval system. Verify the base anchorage to the structure per the Frontline manual, and never enter a confined space without the full davit, retrieval device, harness, and a written, practiced rescue plan per OSHA 1910.146.

Compliance Standards

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146

Permit-required confined spaces: entry and rescue requirements.

ANSI Z359

Fall protection and rescue system standards for the davit system.

OSHA 29 CFR 1926

Construction confined space and fall protection requirements.

Typical Applications

Tank farmsOutfit multiple tanks with bases, share one davit arm.
Vault networksA base at each access point.
Wastewater plantsWet wells and digesters.
Process facilitiesPermanent base positions.
Truck and trailerMobile base options.
Multi-point sitesEconomical fleet of bases.

How to Use the DAC-HBASE

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Verify the structure. Confirm the mounting location can support davit loads per the manual.
  2. Inspect. Check the base, welds, and receiver before each use.
  3. Install the base. Anchor the base to the structure exactly as the Frontline manual specifies.
  4. Insert the davit arm. Seat the DAC davit arm in the base and confirm it locks.
  5. Rig the retrieval system. Mount the winch or 3-way SRL per the rescue plan.
  6. Function-test before entry. Confirm retrieval and the rescue plan with the attendant.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Visual: deformation, cracks, corrosion, or damaged welds on load-bearing parts.
  • Moving/locking parts: gates, jaws, pins, and locks operate and lock positively.
  • Connection points: D-rings, eyes, and hooks free of wear, elongation, or sharp edges.
  • Fasteners: present, correct, and fully engaged per the manual.
  • Markings: labels must be present and legible.

Retire the equipment immediately after any fall arrest event or if any inspection point fails. Destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Frontline DAC-HBASE base?
The DAC-HBASE is the H-base modular base for the Frontline DAC confined-space davit system. It is a portable H-frame counterweight base that receives the DAC davit arm and holds the boom over the opening for entry, retrieval, and rescue without drilling into the floor.
What does base only mean, and what else do I need?
The DAC-HBASE is sold as the base only - the davit arm is sold separately. To work a space you also need the DAC davit arm, a retrieval and fall-arrest device (SRL or winch), and a full-body harness for the entrant.
Why choose the H-base?
The H-base is a portable, counterweighted foundation you can position and relocate without anchoring into the structure. It suits temporary work points and sites where you cannot or do not want to drill a fixed base.
Can one davit arm serve multiple bases?
Yes - move a single DAC davit arm between an H-base and any fixed bases you have installed. That lets one arm cover both permanent and temporary openings across a site.
What is the DAC-HBASE compatible with?
It is matched to the Frontline DAC davit arm and the DAC retrieval components, and is used only within the complete DAC davit system, rigged per the Frontline manual and with the correct counterweights.
Floor, wall, or H-base - which DAC base should I choose?
Choose the H-base (DAC-HBASE) for a portable counterweight base you can relocate without drilling, the floor-mount (DAC-FLRMT) for a permanent in-floor foundation, and the wall-mount (DAC-WALLMT) where a structural wall is the better anchor or floor space is tight.
Is it OSHA compliant for confined spaces?
Within the complete DAC davit system it conforms to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146, ANSI Z359, and OSHA 1926, provided the correct counterweights are used. The system must be assembled and operated by trained personnel per the manual.
