How to Use the RAW50-US

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check all load-bearing parts, moving parts, and the line before each use.
  2. Set up per the manual. Install and rig exactly as the Frontline manual specifies.
  3. Rig the system. Run the retrieval and/or fall arrest lines through the correct points.
  4. Connect the worker. Attach the harness per the rescue plan.
  5. Function-test. Test retrieval and confirm the plan with the attendant before entry.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Visual: deformation, cracks, corrosion, or damaged welds on load-bearing parts.
  • Moving parts: pulleys, swivels, winch drum, and locks operate freely and lock positively.
  • Line/cable: no broken wires, kinks, fraying, or corrosion; spools cleanly.
  • Connectors and fasteners: present, correct, and fully engaged per the manual.
  • Labels and markings: present and legible.

Retire the equipment immediately after any fall arrest event or if any inspection point fails. Destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Frontline RAW50-US winch?
The RAW50-US is a Patriot 50 ft material and work winch, made in the USA. It mounts to a MEGApod tripod or a davit and raises or lowers material and personnel over a confined-space opening using a hand crank and a locking drum, with 50 ft of galvanized steel cable.
Can the RAW50-US lift a worker, or only material?
It is a material and work winch rated for both material handling and personnel retrieval within a confined-space system. Use it for the lifting and retrieval role per the Frontline manual, and pair it with a fall-arrest device so the worker is always protected.
What does the RAW50-US mount to?
It mounts to the Frontline MEGApod tripods and quadpods and to the Patriot davits, becoming the lifting line of the overhead system. It is designed to integrate with the rest of the Patriot confined-space line.
How long is the cable and how is it operated?
The winch carries 50 ft of galvanized steel cable and is operated by a hand crank with a locking drum that holds the load at any point. Inspect the cable and drum before each use.
Do I need both a winch and a 3-way SRL?
They do different jobs: the winch raises and lowers material and personnel, while a 3-way SRL provides fall arrest plus rescue retrieval. Many confined-space setups run both - the winch for lifting and the SRL for fall protection.
Is the RAW50-US OSHA compliant?
Yes - it conforms to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 and ANSI Z359 as the retrieval winch within a confined-space system, and it is made in the USA. Operate it with trained personnel per the manual.
Where is the RAW50-US made?
The RAW50-US is made in the USA as part of the Frontline Patriot line, and it is matched to the Patriot MEGApod tripods, quadpods, and davits.
