The TAN07RA-US is rated for use by ONE person at a time with a combined weight (worker plus clothing, tools, and equipment) not exceeding the rated capacity listed in the specs table above. Do not exceed rated load. Do not use for towing, hoisting outside design parameters, or as a general-purpose lifting device.
Confined space entry must be planned and executed per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 (Permit-Required Confined Spaces) and 1926.1200 to 1926.1213 (Confined Spaces in Construction), with a documented rescue plan and an attendant present at all times during entry.
Compliance & Certification
Right Tool. Right Job.
How to Set Up the TAN07RA-US in 7 Steps
The full procedure is in the TAN07RA-US User Instruction Manual. The condensed version below assumes a trained Competent Person setting up over a planned permit-required confined space entry with all OSHA pre-entry requirements complete.
- Plan the entry. Pre-plan the confined space entry with the entry supervisor, attendant, and entrant per OSHA 1926.1204 and 1910.146. Confirm atmospheric testing, ventilation, communication, and rescue procedures are in place before the tripod leaves the truck.
- Open and stage the tripod. Stand the Patriot tripod up and spread the three legs over the entry opening. Verify the cast aluminum head centers above the opening and each foot lands on a stable, level surface.
- Adjust the legs independently. Telescope each leg independently using the auto-locking quick-insert pins. Range is 48 in to 84 in. Use independent leg adjustment to compensate for uneven terrain.
- Connect the safety leg chains. Attach the triangular safety leg chains at ground level across all three legs. The chains prevent leg spread under load and satisfy ANSI tripod configuration requirements.
- Mount the RAG503W-US 3-Way SRL. Attach the 3-Way SRL bracket to one tripod leg and run the lifeline up the leg and over the integrated head pulley. Verify the unit is locked in place and the cable runs cleanly without rubbing.
- Set the operating mode. Use the single-knob mode switch on the 3-Way SRL to select fall arrest (SRL) mode for normal entry, or retrieval mode for a controlled lower or rescue lift. Verify the chosen mode before connecting the entrant.
- Connect to the entrant. Connect the locking swivel snap hook to the entrant's full-body harness dorsal D-ring. Verify the impact indicator reads normal, perform a load test, and confirm communication with the attendant before entry.
Inspection & Retirement
Confined space tripods and lifting devices see hard cycles, weather, and chemical exposure. Routine inspection keeps the system field-ready and protects every entrant.
Pre-Use Inspection (Every Use)
Before each entry, confirm the tripod legs telescope and lock smoothly with all three pins fully engaged. Inspect the cast aluminum head, eyebolts, and feet for cracks, dents, or deformation. Verify the safety chain (or safety leg chains) is intact and tensioned. Inspect the winch or 3-Way SRL for cable damage (fraying, kinks, rust), proper brake function, smooth gear or drum operation, and impact indicator condition. Confirm the snap hook gate closes and locks fully.
Competent Person Inspection (Minimum Every 6 Months)
A Competent Person, as defined in 29 CFR 1926.32(f), must perform and document a full inspection at least every six months and after any fall arrest, impact, or chemical exposure. Inspection covers permanent deformation of any leg or the head, weld integrity at the cast head, condition of all eyebolts and locking pins, label legibility, brake disassembly per manufacturer schedule, lifeline tensile inspection along the entire length, and any signs of unauthorized field modification.
Inspection After Fall Arrest or Impact
If the system has arrested a fall, been struck, dropped from height, or hit by mechanical equipment, remove it from service until a Competent Person inspects and clears it. The 3-Way SRL impact indicator on the snap hook will display a visible change if the unit has seen arrest forces.
Retirement for Damage
Retire any tripod with cracked welds, bent legs that will not telescope or lock cleanly, missing or damaged eyebolts, broken or missing locking pins, severe corrosion, or any deformation that prevents the head from carrying load correctly. Retire any winch or SRL showing cable fraying, kinks, broken strands, brake malfunction, or a tripped impact indicator.
Cleaning and Storage
After exposure to wet, chemical, or dirty environments, wipe the tripod, head, and lifting device clean with mild soap and water and dry thoroughly. Do not lubricate brake or shock components. Store the disassembled system in the included carry bag (where supplied) in a dry, room-temperature space away from sunlight, solvents, and corrosive vapors.
Fall Clearance & Entry Limits
The TAN07RA-US is an overhead anchor system for vertical entry into permit-required confined spaces. Tripod height limits the working area at the top of the entry. The lifting or arresting device controls fall clearance below the working level. Required fall clearance below the worker depends on the device's free-fall and arrest distance, lifeline elongation, worker height, and the depth of the space being entered.
