Polydac Rope Vertical Lifeline Assembly, 30 ft

The Guardian 11322 is a 30 ft vertical lifeline assembly built on 3-strand Polydac co-polymer rope: softer in the hand and easier to coil than steel-core lines, while still meeting the same OSHA fall arrest requirements. The assembly arrives complete with a shock pack, a rope positioning device installed on the line, and an 18 in lanyard extension.

Polydac rope combines polyester wear resistance with a supple 3-strand lay that runs smoothly through the grab. The assembly supports workers from 130 to 310 lbs including tools, with a 5,000 lbs tensile strength and a 6 ft maximum free fall.

Who Needs This Product

Crews that handle lifelines all day notice rope construction: the 3-strand Polydac lay coils cleanly, stays flexible in cool weather, and runs smoothly through the positioning device as the worker moves. Like every VLA, the 11322 is the connection between a compliant roof anchor and a full body harness, with the grab traveling the line for slope-wide mobility. If your crews drag lines across abrasive shingle day after day, the poly steel VLA family trades some hand feel for maximum cut resistance.

Keep the grab high and the slack out. Position the rope grab as high on the lifeline as practical and remove slack before moving. Maximum free fall is 6 ft, and the combined length of D-ring, fall arrester, and lanyard extension must not exceed 36 in. The anchorage must withstand 5,000 lbs in the permitted loading directions.

Compliance Standards

OSHA 1926.502

Meets construction personal fall arrest system requirements for vertical lifelines.

OSHA 1910.140

Meets general industry personal fall protection system requirements.

ISO 17025 lab tested

Guardian lifelines are tested in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.

System compatibility

Use with compliant Type A roof anchors and full body harnesses; a competent person must verify the complete system.

Typical Applications

Residential roofingSlope travel from a peak anchor with an easy-handling line.
Solar installationContinuous protection during layout, racking, and panel setting.
Cool-weather work3-strand rope stays flexible when temperatures drop.
Roof inspectionsFast setup and clean coiling between stops.
Gutter and exterior workWorking at and over the eave from the roof surface.
Chimney and flashing repairControlled movement around ridge-area work.
Painting and coatingA supple line that manages easily around staging.
Storm repairGrab-and-go lifeline for emergency tarping and patching.

Use Overview

Use must follow the Guardian VLA instruction manual (1600204). The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect first. Check the rope, snap hook, shock pack, rope grab, and extension before every use.
  2. Connect to the anchor. Attach the snap hook to a compliant roof anchor D-ring and confirm the gate is closed and locked.
  3. Drape the line. Run the lifeline down the slope past the work area, clear of edges and sharp transitions.
  4. Connect the worker. Attach the 18 in lanyard extension to the dorsal D-ring of the full body harness.
  5. Position the grab. Slide the rope grab as high on the line as practical and remove slack.
  6. Verify clearance. Confirm fall clearance below the work area and minimize swing fall by working in line with the anchor.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before every use, and have a competent person perform a documented inspection at least every six months under ANSI Z359.2 practice. Remove the assembly from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Rope: cuts, abrasion, glazing, hockling or unlaid strands, chemical damage, or discoloration.
  • Shock pack: any evidence of deployment or elongation.
  • Rope grab: cracks, corrosion, or a cam that does not lock the rope positively.
  • Snap hook: cracks, deformation, or a gate that does not close and lock automatically.
  • Extension lanyard and stitching: cuts, fraying, or pulled threads.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest event, shock pack deployment, rope damage, or any condition where the inspector cannot positively verify the assembly is fit for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Polydac rope?
Polydac is a co-polymer rope that blends polyester wear characteristics with a softer, more flexible hand. The 3-strand lay coils cleanly, resists kinking, and runs smoothly through the rope positioning device, which crews notice when they handle lines all day.
What is included with the 11322?
The assembly arrives complete: 30 ft of 5/8 in 3-strand Polydac rope with a locking snap hook end, a shock pack, a rope positioning device installed on the line, and an 18 in lanyard extension for the harness dorsal D-ring.
How does Polydac compare to poly steel rope?
Polydac is softer, lighter to handle, and easier to coil; poly steel adds a steel-core construction with maximum cut and abrasion resistance for dragging across rough shingle day after day. Both meet the same OSHA fall arrest requirements at the same 130 to 310 lbs capacity.
Which standards does the 11322 meet?
It meets OSHA 1926.502 and OSHA 1910.140, with a 5,000 lbs tensile strength and 6 ft maximum free fall, and it is tested in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
What anchor should I pair with this lifeline?
Any compliant Type A anchor rated 5,000 lbs: the Guardian Temper for reusable installs or the Ridge-It family for permanent tie-off points. The snap hook connects directly to the anchor D-ring.
Can the rope grab be repositioned on the line?
Yes. The positioning device trails with the worker and locks instantly during a fall. Keep it as high on the line as practical and keep slack out of the system.
When should the assembly be retired?
Retire it after any fall arrest, any shock pack deployment, or any failed inspection item such as unlaid strands, a grab that does not lock, or a hook that does not close. When in doubt, take it out of service.

Choosing Between Rope Constructions?

Polydac handles easier; poly steel fights abrasion harder. Confirm your application with us and we will make sure the right equipment ships together, based on the delivery location.
