Temper Reusable Roof Anchor, 4-Pack

The Guardian 00455 Temper anchor is the workhorse reusable roof anchor for residential crews: a zinc-plated steel plate anchor with a 5,000 lbs minimum breaking strength that installs over the peak or on the field of wood, metal, or concrete roofs. This 4-pack keeps a fresh anchor on every truck and every job, at a lower cost per anchor than buying one at a time.

The Temper may be removed and reused with new fasteners, and it accepts pitches from 0/12 to 12/12 installed over the roof peak. It is certified to ANSI Z359.18 as a Type A anchorage connector and meets OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140, with the full ISO 17025 accredited lab test report available below.

Who Needs This Product

This 4-pack is built for roofing contractors and crews who install anchors on multiple jobs per week. One anchor ties off one worker as the anchorage connector of a personal fall arrest system; the worker still needs a full body harness and a vertical lifeline or SRL. Because the Temper is reusable with new fasteners, a 4-pack typically outfits a crew for a full season of residential work. If you need the complete system in one package, the Guardian Bucket of Safe-Tie kit pairs this anchor with a harness and 50 ft lifeline.

Features

Reusable design

Remove the anchor at the end of the job and reinstall it on the next roof with new fasteners. Reused anchors must lie flush against the substrate.

Three substrates

Installs on wood with 3/4 in total combined thickness, 20 ga metal, or 4 in concrete at 4,000 psi with the fasteners specified in the manual.

Peak or field installation

Fastens over the roof peak from 0/12 to 12/12, or on a flat surface per the manual, giving crews flexible anchor placement.

Zinc-plated steel

Corrosion-resistant plating stands up to repeated use and jobsite handling across the roofing season.

5,000 lbs breaking strength

Certified Type A anchorage connector under ANSI Z359.18 with a minimum breaking strength of 5,000 lbs.

Four-anchor contractor pack

Keeps a fresh anchor in every truck, with a lower per-anchor cost than buying single units.

The supporting structure must withstand 5,000 lbs or maintain a 2:1 safety factor. Do not over-torque screws.

Installation Overview

Installation must follow the Guardian Temper instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Determine the location. Choose an installation location over the roof peak or on the field per the substrate detail in the manual, minimizing swing fall hazards.
  2. Verify the substrate. Confirm wood is 3/4 in total combined thickness, metal is 20 ga, or concrete is 4 in at 4,000 psi.
  3. Fasten the anchor. Fill every required fastener hole: 6 fasteners per side into a truss or 16 per side into sheathing, using new fasteners only.
  4. Check the fit. The anchor must lie flush against the substrate with the label facing up; do not over-torque screws.
  5. Connect the system. Attach a compatible vertical lifeline or SRL to the anchor D-ring and verify fall clearance before work begins.
  6. Remove and reuse. At the end of the job, remove the anchor, inspect it for warping or damage, and reuse it only with new fasteners.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect each anchor before every use, and have a competent person perform a documented inspection at least every six months under ANSI Z359.2 practice. Remove an anchor from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Warping or deformation that prevents the anchor from lying flush against the substrate.
  • Cracks, corrosion, or damage to the plate, D-ring, or welds.
  • Elongated or damaged fastener holes.
  • Illegible or missing label.
  • Any evidence the anchor has arrested a fall.

Retirement triggers: any fall event on the anchor, visible deformation after removal, or any condition where the inspector cannot positively verify the anchor is fit for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Temper anchors come in this pack?
This is a 4-pack of the Guardian 00455 Temper anchor. Each anchor is an independent Type A anchorage connector for one worker, so a 4-pack can anchor four separate tie-off points across a job or across your fleet of trucks.
Is the Temper anchor reusable?
Yes. The Temper may be removed and reused, provided new fasteners are used for every installation and the anchor still lies flush against the substrate. Removal can cause warping, so inspect each anchor before reinstalling and retire any anchor that is deformed.
What fasteners does the Temper anchor require?
On wood, use 16d nails or #12 x 2 in wood deck screws; on 20 ga metal, #12 x 2 in metal deck screws; on 4 in concrete at 4,000 psi, 1/4 in x 2-3/4 in concrete screws. Fill 6 fastener holes per side into a truss or 16 per side into sheathing, and never reuse fasteners.
What roof pitch does the Temper anchor accept?
Installed over the roof peak, the Temper is compatible with pitches from 0/12 to 12/12. It can also be installed on a flat surface per the substrate details in the instruction manual.
Which standards does the Temper anchor meet?
The Temper is certified to ANSI Z359.18 as a Type A anchorage connector with a 5,000 lbs minimum breaking strength, and it meets OSHA 1926.502 and OSHA 1910.140. The ISO 17025 accredited laboratory test report is available in the documentation section on this page.
Can I use the Temper anchor with a horizontal lifeline?
Yes, but only if the horizontal lifeline is installed in parallel with the long axis of the anchor plate, and all end anchorage and system requirements in the manual are met. For dedicated HLL anchorage on standing seam metal roofs, see the SSRA3 anchor plate instead.
What else do I need for a complete fall arrest system?
Each worker needs a full body harness and a connecting device, either a vertical lifeline assembly with a rope grab or a self-retracting lifeline, attached to the Temper anchor. Use the fall protection calculator above to confirm clearance, or buy the Guardian Bucket of Safe-Tie kit for a complete system in one bucket.
