VL58 Polydac Rope Lifeline with Snap Hooks, 50 to 100 ft

The Guardian Polydac VL58 is the easy-handling bare lifeline: 5/8 in 3-strand co-polymer rope that coils cleanly, stays supple in cool weather, and runs smoothly through a trailing rope grab. The 75 ft length (11332) carries a locking snap hook on the anchor end; the 50 ft (11337) and 100 ft (11338) lengths carry hooks on both ends for flexible rigging.

Pair it with a compatible 5/8 in rope grab and shock absorbing extension to complete a vertical lifeline system meeting OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140 for workers from 130 to 310 lbs.

Who Needs This Product

Polydac lines suit crews that rig and strike lifelines many times a day: the 3-strand lay resists kinking, coils fast, and feeds smoothly through the grab. The two-hook 50 and 100 ft versions let you terminate either end at the anchor or capture the bottom end when the job calls for it. Like every bare lifeline, the Polydac VL58 needs a compatible 5/8 in rope grab, a shock absorbing connector, a compliant anchor, and a full body harness to make a complete system. For maximum abrasion resistance on rough shingle, choose the poly steel VL58 instead.

Features

3-strand Polydac rope

Co-polymer construction is supple, kink-resistant, and easy to coil at the end of the day.

One or two hook ends

75 ft has an anchor-end hook; 50 and 100 ft carry locking hooks on both ends for flexible rigging.

Grab compatible

Sized exactly for 5/8 in trailing rope grabs like the Guardian 01508 and Grab-R.

Smooth grab travel

The consistent 3-strand lay feeds cleanly through positioning devices as the worker moves.

Weather-resistant materials

Polydac rope and galvanized steel hardware stand up to sun and moisture exposure.

Three length options

50, 75, and 100 ft cover residential slopes through mid-rise vertical drops.

A rope alone is not a fall arrest system. The Polydac VL58 must be paired with a compatible 5/8 in rope grab and a shock absorbing connector, a compliant anchor, and a full body harness. Verify the complete system with a competent person, and never use a grab sized for a different rope diameter.

Compliance Standards

OSHA 1926.502

Meets construction vertical lifeline requirements when rigged as part of a complete system.

OSHA 1910.140

Meets general industry personal fall protection system requirements.

ISO 17025 lab tested

Tested in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory; the test report is available in the documentation section below.

5/8 in grab compatibility

Diameter matched to standard 5/8 in trailing rope grabs; never mix rope and grab sizes.

Rigging Overview

Rigging must follow the Guardian lifeline and rope grab instruction manuals. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect first. Check the full length of rope, splices, and hooks before every use.
  2. Connect to the anchor. Attach a snap hook to a compliant anchorage connector rated 5,000 lbs and confirm the gate locks.
  3. Install the grab. Mount a compatible 5/8 in rope grab on the line in the correct orientation per the grab manual.
  4. Connect the worker. Attach the grab shock absorbing extension to the dorsal D-ring of the full body harness.
  5. Manage the line. Drape the rope clear of edges; use the second hook to capture the bottom end where the job requires it.
  6. Verify clearance. Confirm fall clearance below the work area and minimize swing fall hazards.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before every use, and have a competent person perform a documented inspection at least every six months under ANSI Z359.2 practice. Remove the rope from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Rope: cuts, abrasion, glazing, hockling or unlaid strands, chemical damage, or discoloration.
  • Splices: pulled, distorted, or damaged strands at the hook terminations.
  • Snap hooks: cracks, corrosion, deformation, or gates that do not close and lock automatically.
  • Contamination: paint, tar, or chemical saturation that hides or degrades the rope.
  • Labels: missing or illegible.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest event on the line, unlaid or damaged strands, or any condition where the inspector cannot positively verify the rope is fit for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which lengths have hooks on both ends?
The 50 ft (11337) and 100 ft (11338) lines carry locking snap hooks on both ends, letting you anchor either end or capture the bottom of the line. The 75 ft (11332) carries a single hook on the anchor end.
What is Polydac rope?
Polydac is a co-polymer 3-strand rope that blends polyester wear characteristics with a softer, more flexible hand. It coils cleanly, resists kinking, and feeds smoothly through trailing rope grabs.
How does Polydac compare to the poly steel VL58?
Polydac handles easier and coils faster; poly steel adds a steel-core construction with maximum cut and abrasion resistance for dragging across rough surfaces daily. Both are 5/8 in, meet the same OSHA requirements, and fit the same rope grabs.
Which rope grabs fit this line?
Any grab rated for 5/8 in rope, including the Guardian 01508 rope grab and the Grab-R 01503 with its 3 ft shock absorbing extension. Never use a grab sized for a different rope diameter.
Which standards does the Polydac VL58 meet?
Rigged as part of a complete system, it meets OSHA 1926.502 and OSHA 1910.140 for workers from 130 to 310 lbs including tools, with a 5,000 lbs tensile strength. The ISO 17025 lab test report is linked below.
What do I still need for a complete system?
A compatible 5/8 in rope grab with a shock absorbing connector, a compliant 5,000 lbs anchor, and a full body harness. Use the fall protection calculator on this page to confirm clearance for your setup.
When should the rope be retired?
Retire it after any fall arrest on the line, unlaid strands or glazing, splice damage, or chemical contamination. Many fleets also retire lifelines on a fixed service schedule regardless of appearance.
