Relief Step Suspension Trauma Strap, 12-Pack

The fleet-size Relief Step: twelve individually pouched suspension trauma steps, ready to install across every fall arrest harness in the program. After a fall arrest, each step deploys with one pull into a foot loop that lets the suspended worker stand, flex, and keep blood circulating until rescue.

The Relief Step attaches to any brand or style of full body harness. Twelve steps outfits twelve harnesses at the one-per-harness minimum, or six workers at the preferred one-per-foot standard.

Who Needs This Product

Safety managers do not buy trauma straps one at a time; they outfit the fleet in a single purchase order. The manufacturer 12-pack is the deployment unit: enough for a full crew at one per harness, or half a crew at the two-per-worker standard, with identical pouches that make toolbox-talk training consistent across the board.

Features

Fleet Deployment Unit

Twelve identical steps install across the whole harness fleet in one pass, one purchase order.

One-Pull Deployment

The suspended worker pulls the pouch open and drops the loop; no assembly under stress.

Stand and Circulate

Standing in the loop unloads the leg straps and lets the leg muscles pump blood back toward the heart.

Universal Attachment

Attaches to any brand or style of full body harness across a mixed fleet.

Consistent Training

Identical pouches and deployment across every harness keeps annual training simple.

Featherweight Pouches

Each stowed pouch weighs ounces and rides without snagging or dangling.

The Relief Step is not a rescue plan. It buys time by keeping blood circulating; your program still needs the equipment and trained people to retrieve a suspended worker promptly per OSHA 1926.502.

Compliance Standards

OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140

Meets OSHA requirements for personal fall arrest system body wear in both construction and general industry.

Suspension Trauma Bulletin

OSHA Safety and Health Information Bulletin 03-11-30 identifies suspension trauma as a potentially fatal hazard beginning within minutes of a fall arrest.

Universal Component

Attaches to any manufacturer's full body harness without affecting the harness certification.

Typical Applications

Fleet-wide trauma relief deployment in one purchase order.
General contractors outfitting every subcontracted harness on site.
Steel, tower, and wind programs with two steps per climber.
Rescue plan compliance programs bridging the gap to retrieval.
Safety distributors stocking crew-size trauma kits.
Annual training programs that expend a unit demonstrating deployment.

Deployment Overview

  1. After a fall arrest, locate the Relief Step pouch on the harness.
  2. Pull the pouch open with one hand and let the loop drop.
  3. Extend the loop to full length and place a foot in the stirrup.
  4. Stand up in the loop to unload the leg straps, using the second step for the other foot if fitted.
  5. Keep flexing the leg muscles and await rescue.

Train workers to deploy the step during annual fall protection training; the first attempt should not be mid-suspension.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect each stowed pouch with its harness before each use.

  • Pouch: attached securely, closure intact, no abrasion damage.
  • Visible webbing: no cuts, frays, burns, or chemical damage.
  • Attachment point: secure to the harness with no loose stitching.
  • Deployment: verify function during annual training, then re-stow per instructions.

Retirement triggers: any deployment in an actual fall arrest, any defect found during inspection, or damage to the pouch or webbing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is suspension trauma?
When a worker hangs in a harness after a fall arrest, the leg straps compress the veins returning blood from the legs. Blood pools, blood pressure falls, and unconsciousness can follow within minutes. It is the reason OSHA requires prompt rescue wherever fall arrest is used.
How many workers does a 12-pack cover?
Twelve harnesses at the one-per-harness minimum, or six workers at the preferred one-per-foot standard. Most programs also hold one or two spares for training demonstrations.
Does it fit any harness?
Yes. The Relief Step attaches to any brand or style of full body harness, so one solution covers a mixed fleet.
How does the Relief Step help?
It gives the suspended worker a stirrup to stand in. Standing unloads the leg straps and lets the leg muscles pump blood back toward the heart, extending the safe suspension window until rescue.
Does it replace a rescue plan?
No. OSHA requires prompt rescue capability; the Relief Step buys time, it does not perform the retrieval. Pair it with a real rescue plan and equipment.
Is a smaller pack available?
Yes. We also stock a 3-pack for smaller crews; see the related products below.
When does it deploy?
Only when pulled. The pouch rides sealed on the harness through daily work and deploys with one pull after a fall arrest.

Outfitting a Fleet with Trauma Relief?

One step per harness is the floor, one per foot is the standard. Confirm your crew count with us and we will make sure the right quantity ships together, based on the delivery location.
