When a fall occurs, the attendant pulls the release pin to engage the retrieval handle: rotating clockwise lowers the worker in a controlled descent and counterclockwise raises them steadily to safety, with no extra tools or equipment. Applications
How to Use
The FT-R SRL-R protects the entrant on the way down and becomes the rescue winch the moment it is needed.
- Inspect first. Check housing, cable, hook, crank mechanism, and indicators per the MCS11 manual before every entry.
- Mount the device. Install on the FallTech tripod or davit with the matching bracket, or connect to overhead anchorage rated per OSHA.
- Connect the entrant. Attach the swivel snap hook to the dorsal D-ring and confirm the gate is closed and locked.
- Attend the entry. The lifeline pays out and retracts with the worker; the attendant monitors from the entry point throughout.
- Rescue if needed. Pull the release pin and engage the handle: clockwise lowers, counterclockwise raises the worker to safety in a controlled motion.
Inspection and Service Life
OSHA requires inspection before each use, and ANSI Z359.14-2021 adds formal inspection by a competent person on the manufacturer schedule in the MCS11 manual. Log formal inspections so the service history follows the device.
- Housing and handle: check for cracks, deformation, and free crank rotation in both directions
- Lifeline: extend the working length and check the galvanized cable for kinks, birdcaging, broken wires, and corrosion
- Retrieval mechanism: verify the release pin engages and disengages positively per the manual
- Hook: confirm the swivel snap hook gate closes, locks, and swivels freely
- Labels: verify all labels are present and legible, including retrieval operation markings
Remove the device from service immediately if it has arrested a fall or performed a rescue until a competent person inspects it, and destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.
