FallTech FT-R Arc Flash Series

FallTech 721560RT FT-R Arc Flash SRL-R, 60 ft, Class 1

The FT-R Arc Flash SRL-R pairs a 60 ft, 1/4 in Technora rope lifeline with the proven FT-R 3-way retrieval platform, providing electrical utility and industrial crews with a confined space device rated for arc flash exposure under ASTM F887.

Pull the release pin and the unit converts from fall arrest to rescue mode in seconds. Rotating the handle clockwise lowers the worker in a controlled descent, and counterclockwise rotation raises the worker safely and steadily. Choose a plated steel snap hook (721560RT) or a dielectric snap hook (721560RTD1).

Arc Flash Protection for Confined Space Rescue

Confined space rescue is high stakes, and the margin for error disappears when arc flash hazards are added. Per the FallTech sell sheet, the FT-R Arc Flash SRL-R is purpose-built for these conditions with a Technora lifeline made to withstand the extreme temperatures from arc flash events, an arc-resistant label that keeps warnings legible, and a black housing that denotes arc-rated protection.

The device mounts to FallTech tripods and modular davit systems, so one arc-rated retrieval SRL covers vaults, tunnels, manholes, and substation pits. FallTech documents the unit as over 30 percent lighter than comparable SRL-Rs, which speeds transport and setup between entry points.

Key Features

ASTM F887 Arc Rating

Technora lifeline and arc-resistant components are rated to withstand the extreme temperatures generated by arc flash events.

3-Way Retrieval

Pull the release pin to move from fall arrest to raise or lower rescue mode. No extra tools or equipment are needed.

Class 1 Compliance

Meets ANSI Z359.14-2021 Class 1 for anchoring at or above the D-ring, away from edge exposures.

Reduced Nuisance Lockups

An advanced braking mechanism reduces unintentional lockups for smooth, natural movement on the line.

Compact Energy Absorber

A low-profile polyester tear-away energy absorber supports workers up to 310 lb under ANSI.

Two Hook Options

Order a plated alloy steel snap hook or an overmolded dielectric snap hook, both with 3,600 lb gate strength.

An SRL-R is rescue hardware, not a rescue plan. OSHA 1910.146 requires atmospheric testing, an attendant, and a written permit program for permit-required confined spaces. Verify your anchorage, tripod, or davit is rated for retrieval before every entry.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.14-2021

Class 1 SRL-R certification documented in FallTech Declaration of Conformity D1126092.

ASTM F887-20

Arc flash rating for electrical utility fall protection equipment, documented in the FallTech sell sheet and DoC D1126092.

CSA Z259.2.2-2017

Canadian certification documented in FallTech CSA Declaration of Conformity DC1204026 covering 721560RT and 721560RTD1.

OSHA 1910.140 and 1926.502

Meets OSHA personal fall protection system requirements for general industry and construction.

Typical Applications

Electrical utilitiesVault, manhole, and substation entries with arc flash exposure.
Industrial plantsPermit-required entries near energized switchgear and bus work.
Tunnels and lift stationsDeep entries where a 60 ft retrieval line is required.
Rescue standbyArc-rated retrieval coverage during permit-required entries.

How to Use

Follow the FallTech MCS11 instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Mount the device. Attach the SRL-R to a FallTech tripod or davit device bracket using the included mounting bracket.
  2. Connect the entrant. Route the lifeline over the sheave and attach the snap hook to the dorsal D-ring of the harness.
  3. Convert to rescue if needed. Pull the release pin to engage the retrieval handle, then crank clockwise to lower or counterclockwise to raise the worker.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use following the MCS11 manual. A competent person must inspect the device on the schedule in Table 3 of the manual.

  • Housing: cracks, distortion, and loose fasteners on the glass-reinforced nylon shell.
  • Lifeline: pull out the full Technora rope and check for cuts, abrasion, and heat damage.
  • Hooks: gates close and lock fully with no cracks or corrosion.
  • Labels: arc-resistant labels legible and date of first use recorded.

Retirement triggers: any arc flash exposure, arrested fall, failed inspection, or illegible labels. Remove the device from service immediately and tag it out.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the FT-R Arc Flash SRL-R different from the standard FT-R SRL-R?
The arc flash version replaces the galvanized steel cable with a 1/4 in Technora rope lifeline rated under ASTM F887 to withstand the extreme temperatures from arc flash events, and it adds arc-resistant labels and a black arc-rated housing. The retrieval mechanism and Class 1 rating are shared with the standard FT-R platform.
What is the difference between the 721560RT and the 721560RTD1?
The 721560RT uses a plated alloy steel snap hook, and the 721560RTD1 uses an overmolded dielectric snap hook for work around energized equipment. Both hooks provide 5,000 lb minimum static strength with 3,600 lb gate strength, and both configurations are covered by the same declarations of conformity.
Is this SRL-R CSA certified for use in Canada?
Yes. FallTech Declaration of Conformity DC1204026 documents certification to CSA Z259.2.2-2017 for both the 721560RT and the 721560RTD1.
How does the rescue mode work?
Pulling the release pin engages the retrieval handle and converts the unit from fall arrest to rescue mode. Rotating the handle clockwise lowers the worker in a controlled descent, and counterclockwise rotation raises the worker, allowing an attendant to complete a non-entry rescue, which includes raising an entrant out of the space without anyone else entering it.
What is the capacity of the FT-R Arc Flash SRL-R?
The device is rated for one worker with a combined weight of 310 lb under ANSI Z359.14-2021 and up to 420 lb under OSHA, based on the FallTech sell sheet and instruction manual.
What can I mount this SRL-R to?
It mounts to FallTech confined space tripods and modular davit systems using the included plated alloy steel bracket with 3,600 lb minimum static strength. FallTech offers matched tripod kits, including the 7508TB and 7509TB, that pair this device with an 8 ft tripod.
What are the arrest performance numbers?
Per the FallTech sell sheet, maximum arrest force is 1,800 lb, average arrest force is 1,575 lb or less, maximum arrest distance is 42 in or less, and static strength is 3,600 lb minimum.
