How to Install

Follow the FallTech instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the anchor body, connection point, and hardware for damage before each use.
  2. Prepare the structure. Confirm the mounting surface is sound and rated to support the anchor per the manual.
  3. Install and secure. Mount the anchor as specified and set all fasteners to the required torque.
  4. Connect. Attach your SRL or energy-absorbing lanyard to the connection point.
  5. Check clearance. Confirm fall clearance and swing-fall with the calculator below.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least annually. Remove the anchor from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Anchor body and welds: cracks, bending, deformation, or corrosion.
  • D-ring or connection point: deformation, sharp edges, cracks, or corrosion.
  • Fasteners and hardware: damaged threads, loose or missing fasteners.
  • Labels: illegible or missing markings.

Remove the anchor from service immediately after any fall-arrest event, and destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the 7495A clamp to?
Railroad rail in the 112 lb to 141 lb range with head widths of 2-23/32 in to 3-1/16 in, per the manual. The two side plates slide together over the rail and a detent pin secures them, with no drilling or welding.
Is it reusable?
Yes. Clamp it on, use it, and move it to the next location per the manual.
What is the rated strength and capacity?
Certified to ANSI Z359.1-2007 with 5,000 lb (22.2 kN) strength, for one worker up to 310 lb.
Does it damage the structure?
No. It clamps on, so it installs and removes without drilling, welding, or modifying the rail.
How is it different from a beam clamp?
The rail anchor is purpose-built for railroad rail and slides along the rail as the worker moves; FallTech offers dedicated beam clamps for structural beam flanges.
What do I connect to it?
Connect only a 12 ft free fall lanyard compliant with ANSI Z359.13, used with a certified full-body harness. The manual prohibits 6 ft free fall shock-absorbing lanyards because this is a foot-level anchor.
Can it be reused after a fall?
No. Remove the anchor from service immediately after any fall-arrest event and destroy it so it cannot be reused.

Specifying Anchors for Your Crew?
