The 82709 9 ft DuraTech MAX SRL is a 9' DuraTech MAX web personal self-retracting device (SRL-P), a twin-leg 100 percent tie-off SRD whose web lifeline retracts and pays out as you move and locks to arrest a fall in a short distance.

It is certified to ANSI Z359.14-2012 (Class A) for standard overhead use, for one worker up to 310 lb. Choose the connector configuration for your anchor and harness. This is a non-leading-edge device; use an edge-rated SRL for sharp edges.

Who Needs This Product

This product is a personal self-retracting device (SRL-P), the connecting component of a personal fall arrest system. A worker wears the SRD on the harness dorsal (or ties it off overhead) and the retractable web lifeline pays out and retracts, locking to arrest a fall. This twin-leg version gives 100 percent tie-off for continuous connection while moving between anchor points. You still need a certified full-body harness and a rated anchorage.

Features

Retractable web lifeline

The 9' web lifeline pays out and retracts with movement and locks to arrest a fall quickly.

ANSI Z359.14-2012

Certified self-retracting device meeting the Class A 24-inch maximum arrest distance.

100 percent tie-off

Two retractable legs keep you connected while moving between anchors.

Choose your connectors

Configure the housing and anchor-end connectors (swivel eye, carabiner, snap, or rebar hooks) for your setup.

Steel or aluminum options

Aluminum hook options cut weight; steel options maximize durability. Both are rated.

Standard overhead use

A non-leading-edge SRD for overhead anchorage; use an edge-rated device for sharp edges.

Non-leading-edge SRD, twin-leg 100 percent tie-off. This device is certified to ANSI Z359.14-2012 (Class A) for standard overhead use and is NOT rated for sharp or leading edges. Anchor overhead or up to 5 ft below the dorsal D-ring where no edge hazard exists; for edges use a leading-edge (Class 2) device. Confirm required fall clearance and swing-fall with the Fall Protection Calculator below.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.14-2012

Self-retracting device standard (Class A, 24-inch max arrest distance).

ANSI A10.32

Construction fall protection standard.

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502

Federal construction fall protection requirements.

Non-leading-edge

For overhead anchorage; not rated for sharp edges.

Typical Applications

Industrial and plantRetractable connection for maintenance.
Mechanical and electricalHands-free fall protection.
Tower and utilityPersonal SRD for platforms.

How to Use

Follow the FallTech instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the web lifeline, retraction, lock, housing, and connectors before each use.
  2. Mount the SRD. Connect the housing to your harness dorsal (SRL-P) or a rated overhead anchor.
  3. Connect the lifeline. Attach the lifeline hook(s) to a rated anchor (or the harness if anchor-mounted).
  4. Check the lock. Pull the lifeline sharply to confirm it locks, then let it retract smoothly.
  5. Confirm clearance. Verify required fall clearance and swing-fall with the calculator below.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least annually. Remove the anchor from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Web lifeline: cuts, fraying, burns, or chemical damage.
  • Retraction and lock: a lifeline that will not retract or lock on a sharp pull.
  • Housing and hardware: cracks, deformation, or corrosion.
  • Connectors and hooks: bent gates, corrosion, or gates that will not lock.
  • Labels: illegible or missing markings.

Remove the anchor from service immediately after any fall-arrest event, and destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What connector configurations are available?
Combinations of a swivel eye or steel/aluminum carabiner at the housing with steel or aluminum snap, swivel snap, or rebar hooks at the anchor. Choose in the options.
Is this an edge-rated (leading-edge) SRL?
No. This is a non-leading-edge (Non-LE) SRD for standard overhead anchorage. For sharp or leading edges, use a leading-edge rated device.
What standard is it certified to?
ANSI Z359.14-2012, tested to the Class A 24-inch maximum arrest distance. It also meets ANSI A10.32 and OSHA 1926.502.
What is the capacity?
One worker, 130 to 310 lb for ANSI compliance; the manual lists any higher OSHA-only capacity.
Why choose a twin-leg SRD?
Two legs give 100 percent tie-off: you connect the free leg before disconnecting the other, so you stay protected while moving between anchors.
How often should the SRL be inspected?
Inspect it before each use and have a competent person inspect it at least annually, or more often as your program and the manual require. Keep records and check the inspection label.
Can it be used after a fall?
No. Remove the SRD from service immediately after any fall-arrest event and destroy it so it cannot be reused.
