GUC2X4 Slab Grabber System for Concrete Substrates

The Frontline GUC2X4 clamps guardrail to a concrete slab edge with zero penetrations - no drilling, no embedded hardware, no patching afterward. The slab grabber adjusts to fit slabs from 4 in up to 28 in thick and tightens down with a torque wrench drill in minutes.

Each grabber carries slots for top rails, mid rails, and toe boards, so a 2x4 guardrail system drops straight in. Built from high strength rated steel, hot-dip galvanized and powder coated safety green for visibility, at 20 lbs each. Grabbers are sold by the each and come bulk packaged. Meets OSHA 1910 and 1926 guardrail requirements.

Who Needs This Product

This product is passive fall protection - a guardrail system that stops a fall at the edge without the worker wearing or doing anything. GCs and safety managers choose guardrail for leading edges, slab perimeters, and parapets where many workers pass and personal fall arrest would be impractical. No harness, anchor, or clearance calculation required.

Features

Completely non-penetrating

Clamps the slab edge - no drilling, no embeds, no patching when you strike it.

Fits 4 to 28 in slabs

One grabber covers thin decks through thick transfer slabs.

Rail and toe board slots

Top rail, mid rail, and toe board drop into the integrated slots.

Minutes to install

A torque wrench drill sets each grabber fast.

Galvanized and powder coated

Hot-dip galvanized under safety green powder coat for weather and visibility.

Reusable across pours

Move the grabbers down the building as floors complete.

Passive protection, installed right. A guardrail only protects if every post is clamped and every rail and toe board is seated per the Frontline manual, on a substrate that meets the spec. Have a competent person verify the installed system before it is relied upon, and re-inspect after any impact.

Compliance Standards

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502

Guardrail system criteria for construction: 200 lb top-rail load, heights, and toe boards.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.29

Walking-working surface guardrail requirements for general industry.

ANSI / engineered design

Components are engineered to meet the applicable OSHA guardrail load criteria per the spec sheet.

Typical Applications

Slab perimetersRail off the open edge at every floor.
High-rise decksMove grabbers up as floors pour.
Parking structuresEdge protection on cast decks.
Bridge decksNon-penetrating edge guardrail.
Tilt-upRail off slab edges during erection.
RenovationTemporary edge protection without drilling.

How to Install the GUC2X4

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the grabber body, clamp mechanism, and slots before each use.
  2. Position on the edge. Set the grabber over the slab edge where the rail line runs.
  3. Clamp. Tighten the grabber to the slab thickness (4-28 in) with a torque wrench drill per the manual.
  4. Set the spacing. Place grabbers at the manual's maximum post spacing along the edge.
  5. Drop in rails and toe board. Seat top rail, mid rail, and toe board into the slots.
  6. Verify. Have a competent person confirm the system before relying on it.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use and after any impact. Pull any component from service for the conditions below.

  • Posts and bases: bending, cracks, corrosion, or coating breakdown.
  • Clamping / grabbing mechanism: full travel, secure clamp, no slipping under hand load.
  • Rails and toe boards: secure seating in the post slots, no damage.
  • Fasteners and adjusters: present, functional, torqued per the manual.
  • Markings: labels must be present and legible.

Remove any component from service that fails inspection. After any impact or load event, inspect the full system before reuse. Guardrail is passive protection - a damaged system gives false confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it really not penetrate the slab?
Correct - the GUC2X4 clamps the slab edge with no drilling and no embedded hardware. Nothing to patch when you remove it.
What slab thickness does it fit?
Concrete slabs from 4 in up to 28 in thick.
What rails does it take?
Slots for top rails, mid rails, and toe boards in a 2x4 guardrail configuration.
How many do I need?
Space grabbers per the Frontline manual's maximum post spacing for your rail; they are sold by the each and bulk packaged.
Is guardrail better than a personal fall arrest system?
Where it fits, yes - guardrail is passive protection that works without the worker doing anything: no harness to don, no anchor to find, no clearance to calculate, no rescue plan for a suspended worker. OSHA treats guardrail, PFAS, and safety nets as acceptable options; guardrail removes human error from the equation.
Has it been tested?
Yes - the GUC2X4 test report is linked in Submittals.
