GUS-FXD Guardrail System for Concrete or Steel Substrates

The Frontline GUS-FXD is the fixed-install version of the Frontline guardrail line: where a non-penetrating weighted base is not wanted, this system drills onto concrete or bolts onto steel for a permanent 42 in guardrail that does not move.

Available in 5 ft, 7.5 ft, and 10 ft lengths, the ASTM steel rails slide into two fittings and lock with grub screws; the electrostatic safety green finish keeps the edge visible. The galvanized fittings and painted rails meet the OSHA guardrail criteria of 1926 and 1910 - permanent edge protection installed in minutes.

Who Needs This Product

This product is a fixed (permanent-install) passive guardrail for concrete or steel substrates - the choice where the edge protection stays put. Facilities and GCs install it at permanent roof edges, mezzanines, and pits where a weighted base is not wanted.

Passive protection, installed right. A guardrail only protects if every base, post, rail, and toe board is set per the Frontline manual on a suitable surface. Have a competent person verify the installed system before it is relied upon, and re-inspect after any impact.

Compliance Standards

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502

Guardrail system criteria for construction: 200 lb top-rail load, heights, and toe boards.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.29

Walking-working surface guardrail requirements for general industry.

Engineered design

Components are engineered to meet the applicable OSHA guardrail load criteria per the spec sheet.

Typical Applications

Mezzanine edgesPermanent rail at elevated platforms.
Roof hatchesFixed guardrail around access.
Pits and openingsPermanent fencing at floor openings.
Loading docksFixed edge protection.
Equipment platformsPermanent rails on steel structures.
Rooftop perimetersPermanent concrete-mounted rail.

How to Set Up the GUS05-FXD

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check bases, posts, rails, and fittings before each use.
  2. Plan the run. Lay out base/post positions per the manual maximum spacing for your edge.
  3. Set the bases. Place the non-penetrating bases (or clamp/anchor per the system) along the edge.
  4. Install posts and rails. Slide posts into the base fittings and seat top rails, mid rails, and toe boards.
  5. Secure. Tighten grub screws and connections per the manual.
  6. Verify. Have a competent person confirm the system before relying on it.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use and after any impact. Pull any component from service for the conditions below.

  • Posts and bases: bending, cracks, corrosion, or coating breakdown.
  • Clamping / counterweight: secure, no slipping under hand load.
  • Rails and toe boards: secure seating in the fittings, no damage.
  • Fasteners and grub screws: present, functional, tightened per the manual.
  • Markings: labels must be present and legible.

Remove any component from service that fails inspection. After any impact or load event, inspect the full system before reuse. Guardrail is passive protection: a damaged system gives false confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Frontline GUS-FXD guardrail system?
The GUS-FXD is the fixed-install version of the Frontline guardrail line. Where a non-penetrating weighted base is not wanted, it drills onto concrete or bolts onto steel for a permanent 42 in guardrail that does not move. The ASTM-rated steel rails come in 5 ft, 7.5 ft, and 10 ft lengths with a high-visibility electrostatic finish.
Fixed-install or a non-penetrating weighted base - which do I need?
Choose the fixed-install GUS-FXD for permanent, immovable edge protection where you can drill into concrete or bolt to steel. Choose a non-penetrating weighted base, such as the GUB56, where you cannot or do not want to penetrate the deck.
What lengths and guardrail height does it provide?
The rails are available in 5 ft, 7.5 ft, and 10 ft sections, and the system stands 42 in tall to meet the OSHA top-rail height. Combine sections to span the length of your edge.
How does the GUS-FXD install?
You drill the fittings onto concrete or bolt them onto steel, then slide the rails into the two fittings and lock them with grub screws. Follow the Frontline manual for fastener type and fitting spacing for your substrate.
What finishes and colors are available?
The rails come in an electrostatic safety green or safety yellow finish to keep the edge visible, with galvanized fittings for corrosion resistance. Pick the color that best marks the hazard on your site.
Is the GUS-FXD OSHA compliant?
Yes - the 42 in painted rails and galvanized fittings meet the OSHA guardrail criteria of 29 CFR 1926 and 1910. Install it per the Frontline manual to maintain that compliance.
What else do I need for a complete guardrail run?
Plan rail sections to span the edge, and add a toe board (such as the GUTO) wherever workers or equipment can pass below. For openings that need access, add a guardrail gate like the GUG55 rather than leaving a gap.

Railing Off an Edge or Opening?

Guardrail layouts depend on your edge, substrate, and span. Confirm your jobsite conditions with us and we will walk through the guardrail lineup so the right bases, posts, and rails ship together.
