Concrete Slab Grabber

The Guardian 15500 slab grabber clamps the edge of a concrete slab and turns it into anchorage, no drilling, no embeds, no waiting on cure schedules for cast-in points. It grips the slab per the thickness range in the manual and presents a rated connection for one worker.

Compliant with OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140 when installed per the manual, with documentation linked below.

Who Needs This Product

Slab edge work is the classic anchorage gap: the hazard is the edge itself, and the nearest rated point is a floor away. The slab grabber closes it by using the slab as the anchor, clamping the edge within the manual thickness range so deck crews, edge-form strippers, and precast erectors tie off where they work. It moves along the edge with the task and leaves nothing in the concrete.

Anchorage strength is the foundation of the system. The structure and anchor must withstand 5,000 lbs per attached worker or maintain a 2:1 safety factor under qualified-person supervision. Verify substrate, fastener, and orientation requirements against the instruction manual before every installation.

Installation Overview

Installation must follow the Guardian instruction manual for this anchor. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect first. Check the anchor body, connection point, and hardware before every installation.
  2. Verify the structure. The supporting structure must meet the strength requirements in the instruction manual.
  3. Install per the manual. Follow the substrate, fastener, and orientation requirements exactly; fill every required fastener position.
  4. Verify the connection. Confirm the anchor is fully seated and the connection point is accessible and undamaged.
  5. Connect the system. Attach a compatible connecting device and verify the complete personal fall arrest system with a competent person.
  6. Check clearance. Confirm fall clearance below the work area and minimize swing fall hazards before work begins.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before every use, and have a competent person perform a documented inspection at least every six months under ANSI Z359.2 practice. Remove the anchor from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Cracks, corrosion, or deformation of the body, connection point, or welds.
  • Loose, missing, damaged, or worn hardware and fasteners.
  • Elongation or wear at the D-ring or connection eye.
  • Missing or illegible labels.
  • Any evidence the anchor has arrested a fall.

Retirement triggers: any fall event on the anchor, or any condition where the inspector cannot positively verify it is fit for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What slab thicknesses does the grabber fit?
The clamping range is defined in the instruction manual; measure your slab before ordering and never clamp outside the range. The slab itself must be cured and sound enough to meet the anchorage strength requirements.
Does it damage the slab?
No drilling or embeds are involved; the grabber clamps the edge and removes cleanly, which is why it suits finished slabs and precast pieces that cannot take penetrations.
What connects to the grabber?
A compliant SRL or shock absorbing lanyard for one worker. On slab edges, an SRL usually wins because clearance below the edge is exactly what a deployed lanyard consumes; run your setup through the calculator on this page.
Which standards does this product meet?
It is compliant with OSHA 1910.29, OSHA 1926.502 when used within a complete, competent-person verified fall protection system, and Guardian products are tested in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
When should this product be retired?
Retire it after any fall event, any failed inspection item, or whenever an inspector cannot positively verify it is fit for service. The inspection criteria in the linked documentation define the pass-fail conditions.
Is documentation available for submittal packages?
Yes. The manufacturer documentation linked on this page covers installation, specifications, and compliance, and every file is hosted on our site for direct download into your submittal package.
How fast does this product ship?
It is stocked for shipment in 1 business day, and shipping cost is calculated based on the delivery location at checkout.
