RC-BKRPLT Concrete Anchor Backer Plate

The RC-BKRPLT is the structural backer plate companion for Frontline RC concrete roof anchor posts. Engineered for through-bolt (sandwich) mounting, the plate installs on the opposite side of the structure from the anchor and works in combination with threaded rod assemblies to clamp the installation tight - reliable performance as part of a complete personal fall arrest system installation.

Cut from ASTM A36 steel at 11 x 11 inches and 0.35 inches thick, then hot dip galvanized for corrosion protection, the plate matches the footprint of the RC anchor base. Frontline designates it as an accessory compatible with the RC post concrete anchors and designed for installation over steel beams. Mounting hardware is not included - the installation requires six 1/2 inch ASTM A307 threaded rods with nuts and lock washers.

Who Needs This Product

This product is a structural backing component, not a standalone anchor. Installers and engineers specify it whenever an RC roof anchor post is through-bolted rather than anchored into the concrete mass - the plate spreads the clamping load on the far side of the structure. The RC post, threaded rod hardware, harness, and connecting device complete the system.

Features

Through-bolt (sandwich) mounting

Backs the RC anchor from the opposite side of the structure, clamped by threaded rod assemblies.

ASTM A36 steel

A full 0.35 inch thick structural plate sized at 11 x 11 inches to match the RC anchor base.

Hot dip galvanized

Corrosion protection that matches the RC posts for long service indoors or out.

RC series companion

Frontline designates the plate as the accessory for its RC post concrete anchors.

Steel beam installations

Designed for through-bolt installation over steel beams per the Frontline documentation.

Hardware not included

Specify six 1/2 inch ASTM A307 threaded rods with nuts and lock washers to suit the structure depth.

ApplicationThrough-bolt (sandwich) backing for RC anchors on concrete structures and steel beam installations
CompatibilityFrontline RC12 / RC18 / RC24 anchor posts

Hardware is not included. The RC-BKRPLT ships as the plate only - the installation requires six 1/2 inch ASTM A307 threaded rods with nuts and lock washers, sourced to the structure thickness. The complete through-bolt assembly must be designed and verified by a qualified person for the intended fall protection load before use.

Compliance Standards

Structural component

The RC-BKRPLT spec sheet lists no standalone compliance standards - it is a backing plate that performs as part of a complete RC anchor installation rather than an anchorage connector on its own.

Qualified person review

As with any anchorage installation, the complete through-bolted assembly - anchor, plate, rods, and structure - must be evaluated and approved by a qualified person before workers tie off.

Typical Applications

RC post installationsThe backing half of every through-bolted RC12, RC18, or RC24 anchor.
Steel beam mountingSandwich mounting over steel beams per the Frontline documentation.
Concrete structuresThrough-bolt installations where clamping, not embedment, carries the anchor.
Engineered retrofitsBacking for anchor layouts designed by a qualified person on existing structures.

Installation Overview

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the plate for deformation, cracks, and finish damage before installation.
  2. Verify structure. Have a qualified person design the through-bolt assembly and confirm the structure carries the intended load.
  3. Source hardware. Obtain six 1/2 inch ASTM A307 threaded rods with nuts and lock washers sized to the structure depth - they are not included.
  4. Position. Align the backer plate with the RC anchor base on the opposite side of the structure.
  5. Clamp and torque. Install the rod assemblies and torque to the specification in the Frontline manual.
  6. Verify. Confirm the completed installation with the qualified person before any tie-off.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Plate: bending, cracks, gouges, or deformation.
  • Galvanized finish: corrosion or damage that exposes bare steel.
  • Rod assemblies: corrosion, thread damage, or loss of torque.
  • Bearing surfaces: crushing or movement at the structure interface.
  • Alignment: the plate remains centered behind the RC anchor base.

Remove the plate from service after any fall arrest event on the anchor it backs, any deformation or crack, or any condition where the installation cannot be verified as safe by a qualified person.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the RC-BKRPLT for?
It is the structural backer plate for Frontline RC concrete roof anchor posts in through-bolt (sandwich) installations - the plate backs the anchor from the opposite side of the structure and the threaded rod assemblies clamp the two together.
Is mounting hardware included?
No. The installation requires six 1/2 inch ASTM A307 threaded rods with nuts and lock washers, which you source to match the structure thickness.
Does the plate carry its own compliance rating?
No. The spec sheet lists no standalone compliance standards for the plate - it is a backing component that performs as part of a complete RC anchor installation designed and verified by a qualified person.
What is it made of?
ASTM A36 structural steel, 11 x 11 inches and 0.35 inches thick, hot dip galvanized to match the RC anchor posts.
Which anchors does it pair with?
Frontline designates it as the accessory for the RC post concrete anchors - RC12, RC18, and RC24 - and for installation over steel beams per the Frontline documentation.
When do I need a backer plate instead of concrete anchors?
Whenever the design calls for through-bolting the RC post rather than anchoring into the concrete mass - thin sections, steel beam mounting, and retrofit conditions are typical cases. Your qualified person makes that call.
What is the difference between fall arrest and fall restraint?
Fall arrest catches a worker after a fall happens; fall restraint prevents the worker from reaching the fall hazard in the first place. The RC anchor installations this plate backs are rated for both, plus work positioning and rescue. For a deeper walkthrough with system examples, read our guide: Fall Arrest vs. Fall Restraint.
