RSBC Sealed Block Stainless Steel Self Retracting Lifeline, 50 ft or 80 ft
The Frontline RSBC is an IP68 rated sealed block self-retracting lifeline built for oil and gas, offshore, and other highly corrosive worksites. A stainless steel housing and stainless steel wire rope lifeline keep dirt, grease, water, and hazardous chemicals away from the critical internal components, so the device keeps retracting and locking where ordinary SRLs get fouled.
A pivoting anchorage loop reduces cable friction when alignment is not perfect, and a 360-degree stainless steel swivel snap hook prevents tangles at the worker end. An impact indicator on the snap hook shows at a glance whether the unit has seen a fall or hard impact. Class 1, 310 lb capacity, and 3,800 lb cable breaking strength, built to ANSI Z359.14 and aligned with OSHA 1926 and 1910. Choose 50 ft (RSBC50) or 80 ft (RSBC80).

Who Needs This Product
This product is a self-retracting lifeline (SRL), a fall arrest connecting device that pays out and retracts automatically and locks within inches if a fall starts. The sealed block design is for crews working around oil, grease, salt water, drilling fluids, dust, and washdown, such as oil and gas operators, offshore platform and rig crews, and corrosive process plants. You still need a full-body harness and a rated overhead anchor to complete the system.
Features
IP68 sealed construction
Sealed to IP68 under IEC 60529: protected against dust ingress and permanent submersion in water.
Stainless steel build
Stainless steel housing and wire rope resist corrosion and wear in harsh, wet, and chemical environments.
Contamination protection
All critical internal components are sealed away from dirt, grease, water, and hazardous chemicals.
Pivoting anchorage loop
The loop moves slightly in use, reducing cable friction when the work is not perfectly aligned with the anchor.
360-degree swivel snap hook
The stainless steel swivel snap hook moves freely to prevent tangles and eases attachment to the harness.
Impact indicator
The indicator on the snap hook shows immediately whether the unit has arrested a fall or taken a hard impact.

Independent Test Results (Intertek, ANSI Z359.14-2021)
Intertek Testing Services test report 106000679CRT-001, issued October 31, 2024, covers the RSBC50, with the RSBC80 included as a model share. All tests passed. The report is linked in Submittals.

|---|---|
| Lifeline break test | Wire rope broke at 4,865 to 4,950 lbf (5 ft sections, 3 samples) |
| Dynamic performance | 310 lb weight, 36 in free fall: lock and visual indicator activated on all 3 samples |
| Max arrest force | 794, 813, and 802 lbf (Class 1 limit is under 1,800 lbf) |
| Average arrest force | 665, 676, and 609 lbf (Class 1 limit is under 1,350 lbf) |
| Arrest distance | 11 in, 8.5 in, and 5.25 in (limit is under 42 in) |

Mind the anchor height and the edge. The RSBC is a standard Class 1 overhead-anchorage SRL. Foot-level anchoring or sharp-edge exposure calls for a leading-edge rated device. Confirm anchor placement, swing-fall, and clearance below the work surface before each use, run the Fall Protection Calculator below, and rig per the Frontline manual.
Compliance Standards
ANSI/ASSP Z359.14-2021
American National Standard for self-retracting devices. Intertek third-party test report linked in Submittals.
OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart M
Federal construction fall protection requirements.
OSHA 29 CFR 1910
General industry personal fall protection requirements.
IEC 60529, IP68
Ingress protection rating for dust-tight construction and protection against permanent submersion in water.
Typical Applications
How to Use the RSBC
Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.
- Inspect. Check the impact indicator (green means no fall event), housing, swivel, wire rope, and snap hook, and test the lock with a sharp pull, before each use.
- Anchor overhead. Connect the pivoting anchorage loop to a rated overhead anchor (5,000 lbs per user) with a self-locking carabiner, and confirm it is locked.
- Connect to the harness. Attach the swivel snap hook to the dorsal D-ring of a full-body harness and confirm the gate is locked.
- Work with tension. Keep the lifeline free of slack, never extend it with a lanyard, and keep the anchor above you.
- Verify clearance. Frontline calls for 5 ft of clear fall below the working surface for a Class 1 SRL with overhead anchorage; run the calculator below.
Inspection and Retirement
Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months, more often in harsh service. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.
- Impact indicator: a red band means the device has arrested a fall; remove it from service.
- Wire rope: kinks, broken wires, bird caging, corrosion, welding spatter, or chemical damage.
- Housing: distortion, cracks, or loose or damaged screws.
- Lock and retraction: the line must extend and retract smoothly and lock on a sharp pull.
- Swivel and snap hook: deformation, corrosion, or a gate that fails to lock.
Retire the equipment immediately after any fall arrest event or if any inspection point fails. Only Frontline or a repair center authorized in writing by Frontline may repair it. Estimated product lifespan is 10 years from first use, and less with intense use or chemical exposure.
